i dont get it,you type in i type in "Field audio recorder field test outdoors " and yet it seems as if nobody tests in the real world outside,Why is this?
Anyone have advice on a good MP3 program to use to partition tracks? Before I start the Google search was wondering if there are any free ones that are recommended Thanks
Yea, I own a DR-1, I chose it over the zoom because the zoom operates on one wheel that could brake. The DR-1 takes great live show quality, I primarly use it to record jams and shows that we play. Guitar center
Nice little device. Would be interesting to hear it using XLR input, via a shotgun mic. I'm looking for a decent recorder for over dubbing to HD video. So far I have had no luck. The synching is always way off. I do not think this test is showing it at its best. Still it is nice to see it up-close.
Handling noise is norm but it does seem very noisy. What kind of S/N ratio does it have?
What input was the DR-1 output being plugged into? I see a stereo cable coming out. Where those just plugged straight into your PC's line / mic input? Did you export the recorded audio from the DR-1 and sync it to your picture? Only way to tell if its a decent field test.
The recording sounds terrible so Im wondering if that is down to your PC record converter. Where where the output cables going?
I dont like the handling noise. What field recorder do you recommend for which has no or very limited handling noise? I noticed that the Zoom H2 and Edirol have the same problem.
My guess is that handling noise is unavoidable anytime you're actually handling the microphone. The same is true for most video cameras. Your best bet, if you're looking to handle the device during recording, is to get a separate microphone.
I'd be interested to hear if there were any hand held devices that could successfully limit handling noise though.
LOL at the morons who thik they can judge record quality through a compressed youtube video played back on a laptop soundcard.

The zoom h4n is a much better choice. The Tascam has no XLR inputs!! You can also record all four tracks at ounce on the zoom and much much more.

That would be the DR100 (XLR 48P)

Very well described. Thanks for taking the time to go over the detail of what this unit will do.

He's using the device just as a microphone and is recording the sound to a p.c. as he is with the video
