@wildfiree21 ... "greens" is a term that refers to the original non-breathing nomax which is still standard issue for the department of the interior.. the kevlar / nomax, which just so happened to be blue, was a great replacement. i see via your videos you've worn the greens.. hasn't anyone on your USFS crew refered to them as greens and yellows? i'm now with the BIA ... so USFS dude.. how about that pagami creek fire in minnesota?
I"m 20. I will hopefully be leaving in May for the fire season. But I'm not with any Wildland agency. I spent 2 years as a structural firefighter and I've been an EMT for almost 2 years. What agency will I most likely be able to get with? And at 20, am I too young to get into it as a starter?
ur not too young, just make sure ur in shape for the pack test. u will most likely get on with the USFS, if u can help it be open to go anywhere to get on a crew. once you get some experience then you can pick and choose where u want to go.
i'm a wildland fire fighter. look up down and around always have communication .you need to now what the weather is like in what ever area your in .. like does the wind blow at 3 pm every day etc.
im looking into being a wildland firefighter... im in the middle of taking my essentials for volunteer fire fighting... would anyone be able to tell me their thoughts about wildland firefighters? thanks..
well im not sure about any thoughts, I still need to go through the Fire Academy, but what I do know is you need to always, ALWAYS need to be weary of your surroundings (fuels of the fire/ brush/ shrubbery, etc.), one especially being the weather changes, because sometimes the fire may look like it's flames are shooting straight up in the air, and then you move in to attack, when suddenly winds change and you find yourself within the flames (a downdraft)
Congrats guys! We are on the process of training indian tribes in Brazilian Amazon to fight the fire coming from the air, because everything is unreachble there.
The indians are the only ones to be able to survive for days on the Amazon. We are learning a lot with Smoke Jumpers around the world. I'm a Skydiver with 11.000 jumps and soon you guys will hear about the Indian Skydivers. Congrats again.
hey ag28slo..your a freaking jerk we all wear green pants ....to bad your momma wont let ya come and and play with the big boys..oh wait thats right you did and you put your tail between your legs a ran what a puppy
almost all wildland fighters nowadays wear the green nomex pants you idiot. Anyone from hand crews to hot shots to smoke jumpers. The color of your pants means nothing. Great vid. from a fellow wildland firefighter. Andy Hartsock C-954 WRGS, The Dalles, OR
@LouisianaHusker Cause the muni guys are not always but very often attached to a house. or at least to the engine. Rare to be in the thick of where its going down, just close to the news cameras.
@ag28slo Maybe you need to look closer yourself, I saw plenty of Forest Service Crew.....not all of which wear green pants. Green is the old standard issue, which is now green or tan depending on where you are in the country. They also use jumpsuits which are yellow
Tip of the Bullard helmet to louisianahusker! I've seen and favorited many of your clips. All well done!so from the GulfCoast Wildland FireFighters of Conecuh NF,De Soto NF,USFS Region 8 a big Whiskey Delta ... thats well done, to you civvys ...Thanks Buddy, Stay safe!

I actually meant "too old". I know a lot of them who got into it younger than 20.

none of these guys are wildland firefighters... they're all municipal... be on the lookout for the guys in green pants
ag28slo 3 years ago
I beg to differ, not all wildland firefighters wear green pants. So what if some are municipal? They are fighting wildland fires !
