I knew this song in 2004 from a CD my Spanish teacher gave us. By that time there was a cartoon movie in Hong Kong where a Mandarin and a Cantonese cover of the song were used. I quickly recognized this song to be the original behind all that and it became my favorite song on the CD. The Mandarin version was around since the 1960s and is about a woman who loves one man but has to live with another. However, from the interpretation I feel (and imagine that) the singer is sharing his remembrance of a long-gone-love, the bliss of joyous time spent together and a hint of remorse of an unevitable separation. No understanding of the language is necessary (for me), the music and luis singing just move my emotion. It is heart-wrenching but in the end I feel good. Aromatherapy for the soul.
