One of the so-called "Mark 2" V 16's. It was designed for the shorter Formula 1 races which took place in England from 1952 onwards while the World Championship was contested by Formula 2 cars. It's handling was a great improvement over its predecessor. I believe Nick Mason owns one car nowadays while the other is at the Collection at Donington.
Great footage, thank you for posting such an interesting snapshot of the event which otherwise would never have been seen. The cine quality for the time is very impressive :)
My father was a race car mechanic on thses cars in the 60s i used to play in them as a child the smell and the sound are things you never forget my father is fred tyler he used to work for team ski mclaren david goode was the one armed driver any one have any pics
Well said xrayjaw. I envy you for being there. Hearing that engine on old clips - just unbelievable.. It is a time lost. Wish someone would remake that engine.
I was there in 67 and the sound of the V16 BRM made the fact that it handled like a couch pale into the background. Nothing i've heard has even come close to this car. In my opinion, JS made a brilliant job of taming it on the day. But the sound of that banshee in Jackie Stewarts' hands as he entered knickerbrook, before that stupid chicane was put in, will live with me and my dad for ever.

Also this might well be a much more sorted car than the early ones that Moss drove. I'm just guessing...
