  • am i the only one who came here because of Draw Something? >.<

  • Will this work for laptop mouse pad?

  • simply grt!!! thnx 4 sharing

  • ive got a better idea, why dont use just use your finger ??

  • @wolfe1970 a stylus is easier and for sketching and animating and things like that a finger isnt ideal

  • MUCHAS GRACIAS! I did it and it works great. I used masking tape and it seems that it did not block the energy. Thanks for sharing. : )

  • Great idea!

  • Thanks for this video; it just works and digital note-taking is almost perfect on my Dell Streak;

  • This looks like a joke?

  • Comment removed

  • 5-0 steel wool is better

  • looks a bit like a joint

  • Want an iPad 2 for free? Check out: goo.gl\QyzJ5

  • what if you made a smaller tip, such as wrapping the wool around the tip of the pencil? would it be less effective?

  • omg itt worked i have watched so many vids that didnt work but this did thanks so much

  • Ecxelente. Estuve buscando un monton espuma conductora para poder hacer un stylus segun otros tutoriales, pero unca encontre la espuma y encontre este tutorial y verdaderamente sirve y los elementos los encuentras facilmenete en el supermercado

  • Made one of these today and was amazed how well it worked. i also found that you can completely cover the foil with electrical tape (no exposed foil spot for fingers) and it still works the same as if foil was showing. thanks for this video. I saved some money!!! yaaaaa!!

  • THE MF STRATCH MY SCREEN ahhhhhhh

  • that thing, it's gone drill my screen protector. haha

  • Lowes or Home Depot will have #0000 still wool (most home improvement stores will carry it or order it for you).

Online there are many of choices

  • Wool

  • That's reply good but were do u get the steel wollongong

  • or get cheap flat sponge and then get metal housing from a pen and stuff it in there its totally safe an works fantastically /watch?v=85Fc4aFi6Ho

  • Very responsive, better than my $15 Griffin thnx

  • Probably going to buy the steel wool

  • dude, you've just spent a couple of hundred dollars on the iPad / iPhone, save 30 bucks, get a nice stylus ;-)

  • @elbuenjergar good point, but the app is free. Good way to know if it is worth buying something a bit nicer. Also, I have used the steel sharpie pen to make a stylus that looks much better.

  • @christianfaur agree, i'll give this a try it looks like a fun proyect

  • @christianfaur agreed! it also seems like a fun proyect.

  • Isn't steel wool extremely flamable??

  • @ugottalovepwnage Isn't your house flammable?

  • It works!

  • THATS NOT AN IPAD! THATS AN IPOD TOUCH/IPHONE

  • incredible... it fully works. i have a protective cover on my iphone screen surface and the steel wool just doesn't scratch it at all. very, very clever... SOOO much easier to use my iphone all of a sudden... go figure!! :-)))

  • Wont the steel wool scratch de screen? Isn't this what steel wool is designed for in the first place?

  • @xxGLhrMxx 0000 steel wool is used to polish glass (so will not scratch).

  • I think if you pause it at 1:50 you can see that the app is called auto desk

  • potatoes work try one im not kidding

  • thanks!

  • What about .000? does it need to be .0000?

  • @stfuboy Must be 0000!!!!!! The others will scratch glass.

  • What's the app called?

  • Lowe's has the #0000 steel wool in the paint dept. It's in a big bag (12 pads, enough to make like a hundred pens) - cost me $4.00 out the door.

  • it scratched my screen protector

  • @TalalMajali93 0000 will not scratch glass. Plastic/acrylic screen protectors are not glass so expect them to get cloudy or scratch over time.

  • Will it blend? That's the question... =p

  • Very easy. Steel wool available at only hardware store. Went to Target, Walmart, and A supermarket and all that was available was heavy duty steel wool. Finally got it at Lowe's. Would also specify that a pencil is not necessary and any long skinny object would work, eg antenna, pen (either plastic or metal), mechanicAl pencil, etc. Works perfectly for me. Best DIY stylus I've tried.

  • All you really need are two products: antenna and conductive foam. Cut small piece foam and super glue it to end of antenna and your done :)

  • If you gained 100 pounds you would just like Chris Farley

It's funny how your name is so similar to his!

    Nice tutorial though.

  • @feote911 oops you would look like Chris Farley

  • Cool! I took a metal pen and duct taped the steel wool on the end; worked perfectly. It's a great way to try out a stylus without shelling out the money. It's nit perfect for really fine drawing... But quite good for normal usage.

  • @alalialissa exactly the idea behind the pen. Did not mean to have it replace a $20-40 pen that you can order.

    CF

  • left this fore the kids man, also this scratches the screen, i know a better one where u can use a new or old or whatever u wnat like a pencil or pen or whatever

  • left this fore the kids man

  • @schwazy369 Steel wool is sold on most supermarkets, mostly on the cleaning section (where the dishwashers, sponges, etc. are)

  • is this Perez Hilton's Father?

  • old ass imac

  • thanks man!!!!! now i have a cool pencil for my itouch!!! but man, isnt it dangerous for our body?? cant i have cancer, or something like??

  • Love this pen mine i made isnt to responsive but i like it...... Plz sub to my channle for how to make one and other stuff technology thanks

  • Thanks thats the best pen i have seen i am gona make one thanks

  • Wow man thanks, was going to buy one but now I'll just make it

  • Where do you find that kind of steelwool? Is it easy to find on supermarkets and such?

  • I bought a Targus brand one and even though it cost some bucks it looks a lot more professional going in with clients than a wrapped up pencil with steel wool and tape. Sometimes you do need to make a good impression and having spent $500+ for an ipad already why do that?

  • Just use a pencil and a antistatic sock. Much easier. But still just as dumb.

  • @schwazy369 at any hardware store, probably grocery stores too

  • use an ds stylus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cool, i didnt know that

  • If you have an old pencil laying around, try cleaning it, wrapping it in aluminum foil and then moistening the tip. This vil do just as well, but the tip has to be moist in order for it to work :P

  • I'm using a stylist right now. But not the one there. It's just a foil covered pen. Once u learn how to work the pen with no wool, it works great. Just a suggestion.

  • First off...Sketch Book is one of my favorite art apps & the free version is so packed with features, i cant believe its free.

Ok so the tip on his stylus seems ginormous...to me...but it seemed to draw thin lines pretty well so I guess I can't complain about the looks if its efficient.

That aside, I do love the DIY idea & I'm just curious to try it :-) It'd be great if its precise & responsive - mine will be more girly lookin though ;-)

    Thanks for posting.

  • y do u always need tinfoil please respond

  • iPad and other i devices use static (touch) to respond thats what steel wool does

  • what is this app called and is it free?

  • Respond to this video...

SketchBook MobileX is the the free version.

Its such a great app, you should try it, if you haven't already that is (as your comment is 3 wks old now).

This was the very first sketch/artist type app that i put on my itouch when i first got it & I ended up loving it enough to buy the full version (even though the free one has plenty of options/features).

Anyway, its free...so you really can't go wrong!

  • @jodiekennon

Ye.. thank you for the answer, but i already downloaded it, and yeh its nice.

but i wonder why i got your comment as answer as you havent written: "@t00m1008" at the beginning of the comment Oo

  • Cool! i just made it and works so good, hey thanks for sharing :)

  • An old pencil? Why can't I use a new one? =(

  • @TheFulltimeSlacker....I always crack up when i scan comments of videos & I come across someone who posts exactly what i was thinking...

    too funny!

  • you......do not know what you are doing to your screen. metal is stronger than plastic, leaving fine, tiny scratches in your screen, over time creating larger scratches.

  • lol my friend had one like that but apple made it :D looks awesome

  • Wow amazing. Do you think that will scratch the screen or do I need a protector? Please respond,I'm very interested.

  • That steel wool makes a mess! I wouldent wanna use it!

  • @Bieberluva1924 Looks like "Stylus-R-Us" is using it as their "new" very responsive stylus but at a cost of $30. Up to you

  • wow, i have just received from ebay my wool steel 0000 and cant believe that its much more responsive than the griffin stylus, i have a zagg screen protector and its imposible to draw with it, its like trying to draw with an eraser. Thanxs =D

  • Is it posible to use wacom pen on the ipadd ?

  • @maatonne Wacom pens only work with Wacom tablets. Also, the size of the tip must be about finger size to work with the iPad or iPod touch.

  • @christianfaur Ok thnx

  • Can it be thicker? I mean the top of the stylus? Or it won't be working??

  • @Poprostujaola As Thick as your thumb I would guess. After that I would think the iPad might see "two fingers".

  • If your finding it impossible to look for 0000 steel wool just think SOS pads. Steel wool with a soapy sustains that if you COMPLETELY wash out and LET FULLY DRY, you will get the same results as he shows. Make sure you let it dry

  • If you use #0000 steelwool on a non reflective matte screen protector it would eventually polish the matte finish to a gloss finish.

The upside of doing this would probably make your screen protector more responsive to fingertip touch because matte protectors are not as responsive as the clear and glossy protectors.

    Love your inventiveness! ;-)

  • i would be embarrassed to have spent all that money on an ipad and then use this on it

  • Jeremy, I agree completely! This was just supposed to be a starting point for individuals to make something a bit more interesting and stylish as the pen is very responsive.

The stylus that I currently use is made out of a steel $6 Sharpie pen (with cap) that I have gutted and added the steel wool tip to. I think that it looks a bit better than any stylus you can currently purchase.

I have posted this on my Flickr account at: flickr.com photos/faur/sets/72157624619352997/

  • @christianfaur you should post the video on here too...

i know that apple intend people to use their fingers but theres more and more apps where you need something more precise...why cant apple click and design something specifically for the screen that will work for drawing etc

  • Hi - just curious if, after long term use, you noticed any scratches on your screen? And do you use a screen protector?

Thanks again for the great idea!

  • I do not use a screen protector on my iPad or iPhone. I have not noticed any scratching over the long run but I do not sketch that much on either device. Again, the 0000 is used to polish and clean glass so it should not scratch surfaces that are as hard as glass. Also, very little pressure is needed. Hope this helps.

  • @christianfaur thanks for the reply - and sorry for reposting the comment, it just looked like it hadn't posted!

  • Hi - just curious if, after long term use, you noticed any scratches on your screen? And do you use a screen protector?

Thanks again for the great idea!

  • Thank you!!! Very good tip...

  • thanks for the tip!

  • Thanks

  • Thank you!

  • Great guide, thanks so much, it's much much more sensitive then the pogo sketch stylus that I bought. This needs ZERO pressure, which was what I had expected from the pogo in the first place but was unfortunately disappointed with. Thanks for the guide ^^

  • nice

  • Thank you for the inspiration. First, I made one exactly the way you suggested, though with a Bic. It worked great, but was quite inelegant. So I tracked down an old aluminum fountain pen, removed the nib, and stuffed the steel wool into the gullet. It works! And moreover, it has a cap, so I can easily travel with it. I also plan on experimenting with silver and gold pens.

  • @Naprous Do you have photo of your invention? Sounds stellar

  • Just the images on the video. I have not tried to make one more stylish that warrants a photo.

  • Great tip... got a question: Where I can find the 0000 steel wool?

  • Any home improvement store. Might also be available in the paint depatment of a larger store like Walmart

  • This is great. I bought a $15 pogo stylus, the clip broke, then I lost it (no place to clip it to). I spend $5 on all the steel wool I would ever use and tape, and it works great. I can make hundreds of stylus now. Thanks.

  • It' great thanx it works for me too

  • A grape works too!

  • @SimonMarrNo1 lol you've actually tried A GRAPE!!?!

  • @I2yanSaephan Yeah. You havnt??? Strange person....

nah lol i was just eating some and dropped one on and it clicked!

  • Very good video!

  • Wow, very interesting. Didn't look like much pressure was needed...

  • @zgoosekeeper there is no pressure needed.

  • @zgoosekeeper ipads and ipods respond with electric signals
