Electric has both torque and speed.Those massive coal trains are powered by electric motors,not combustion. When you think about it diesel is high torque/low speed,and fuel is high speed/low torque.But even these run out when the revs get too high due to all the physics of the internal movements. Rotary was an attempt to overcome this but it too has limits. Then came turbine. but you can't mate it to a gearbox. That's why electric kills everything else it' a rotary electric hooked to a gearbox.
