  • dog-man eats man.

    Warewolf!

  • That guy from iron maiden does all those things

  • And now we have video and Khan Academy. :)

  • I know Kung Fu!?

  • These "Big History" videos are absolutely fascinating.

  • I love khanacademy. Lovely.

  • OH MY GOD do you have any idea what the implications of this video are!?!?

  • @maxwellpassion I <3 knowledge and thinking and intellect c:

  • I also encourage You folks, to watch "When ideas have sex" TED talk about specialization, idea broached also in this video.

  • You finished this video very well with "abstract" word, as I think that's what makes us different then chimpanzees: we're not limited to showing real things, we can share our imagination, therefore we can teach abstract ideas, by concentrating on core of the problem and ignoring the rest. A chimpanzee has to remember that an apple can fall down and hit him, but also a banana, a coconut etc. A human just knows the law of gravity - he *optimized* his memory by that.

  • What's this doing in the astronomy playlist ?

  • The proper use of the rational faculty (the thing that separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom) is inherently individualistic.

  • Gaaaaasp ARE YOU GOING TO DO LINGUISTICS/SYNTAX VIDEOS? ever? 'Cause that would be so much awesome.

  • I love it how you said "dog eats man" without flinching. But "man eats dog" was followed by "unpleasant" and "maybe in a desperate situation" haha

  • 4 chimpanzees watched this video already

  • Ok so what is better than human_symbolic lang.

  • 8:09-8:21...Challenge accepted.

  • How was a language created in the first place??

  • Though the flow of presentation has been good, the material presented can rarely make a good introduction.

  • I've finished school for the year and I'm still watching his videos :D

  • @n0kattaem I finished school... ahem! ... years ago, and I still watch Sal's videos.

  • I don't understand the cosmology and astronomy playlist. Some of the videos in it seem better suited to a seperate "Anthropology" or "Geography" playlist.

  • @hedonism13 yes, I need to separate them out. I've been doing these all as part of the "Big History" project

  • @khanacademy What is this "Big History" project?

  • Koloo limpah!

  • Do not show this video to chimpanzees. They will learn our secret...

  • @LeathaFace17 I wish more humans would learn our secret too.

  • @noxure lol

  • This video convey how math and language are truely related!

    Thank you Khanan!

    SMI Spanish Multiple Intelligences

  • very interesting video :)

  • Our only go will be the rest and sho

  • Sal, you can be sure that you are helping to build something great on the collective memory of humanity, what you are doing is a mark on history, you are so important to the world and you cant even imagine the amplitude of what you are doing right now, example: wrote your name on my life

I wish you courage to walk this full of obstacles and difficult road and to never give up, even when something happen trying to discourage or stop you, even in your hardest day. Remember that: You are a Hero

  • unfortunately much of all human knowledge can be erased by a very few

  • happy thanksgiving sal! ill be watching all of your videos during thanksgiving because i dont have a family..

  • I'd rank this as the most important video Sal has ever made. I imagine that it also has personal meaning for him, since he no doubt realizes his own limitations as an educator. Even if he made a new video every day for the rest of his life, he would only scrape the (growing) iceberg of human knowledge.

Collective learning means that no single human has to be accountable for knowing everything. As long as enough people pick up the torch, we don't need every person to carry a copy of every idea.

  • What about Koko or Kanzi the talking apes?

  • @eatcarpet We taught them through our learning style. They can't convey this to other apes

  • @jccarbunkle They can teach some basic sign languages.

  • never realize language in such a profound role in our life. great, more motivation to learn language subjects.

  • Man-Dog EAT !! :D

  • This video was really interesting!

  • Well explained.

  • Very intriguing ... thx for sharing this information

    quick note: at the end m5 = S3 S2 S1

  • I love this!
