for me a blackout is when there is not light, so blackout system for guitars i would probably think it's no sounds system. but, wtf? i don't understand what this new system is used for... i mean... you can already do that with pre-amp........
For those interested, the SH-6 Duncan Distortion bridge pickup and the SH-1 '59 neck pickup was what Gus G use to use. You're probably better off with those pickups than these new fuzzy ones.
I've got an EMG 85/81 combo in my Schecter at the moment(mahogany with maple cap, maple neck, rosewood frets), and I find my 85(bridge) is too bassy/low-midsy, and I'm not too hot on the 81 in the neck either(they were originally 81 in bridge, 85 in neck but the 85 was just uselessly muddy in the neck IMO). Reckon these would be any tighter/high-midsier? I wanted to put a JB/59 combo in, but I don't wanna rewire my baby. I'm playing hard rock/shred/80s melodic rock, if that helps!
@enix165 There are many variables when it comes to guitar tone of course. From the style of guitar build, the wood and building techniques used, stings even, Now now add all the electronics in the guitar, the amp, plus speaker types and cabinet. Beyond that comes how you adjust EQ settings.... continues...
@TheSentinelGuardian Now assuming you have everything else right, and it's just coming down to pickups now, as I have, I switched from an 81 in the bridge to an "85x". I find the X-series EMG pickups to be a real upgrade in both dynamics and clarity. So I would definitely recommend switching over to the new X-series pickups. Now, realize that due to the fairly dramatic EQ differences between the 81 and the 85, you can't just swap from 81 to 85 in the bridge and expect it to sound right...
@TheSentinelGuardian You need to re-EQ the rest of your sound chain to match. Start with your amps built-in EQing, add an external EQing deivice if necessary. I recommend a Parametric EQ for this. If these steps don't get it right, it's time to upgrade to some better equipment, as in amp, guitar, speakers, speaker cab, whichever may be adding to the mud problem, or all if that's the case.
@AlexM1175 which ones do you have the blackouts or the fire blackouts because i have distortion in the bridge and 59 in the neck and someone told me to change into blackouts but i want to turn into fire blackouts which ones should i buy?
@MatKiller119 all depends on your guitar man...i have jb/59 set up in a esp ltd ec 1000..sound great! i got a black ahb in another mahogany guitar too ...sounds slightly muddy...got the emty blackout too..in a nato (type of mahognay so i read) they sound chunky very metal...not versatile..but is a killer pickup ,,,never tried the gus g set thought, my advice would be stick with the distortion or get a jb or even a dimarzio if not go with the emty , hope i helped ;-)

Would these be usable in a guitar with a floyd rose? Or would I need to use a different f-spaced pickup?

They do not sound good here to me at all, but may not be the pickups fault, could me amp/amp adjustment settings, etc...
