powder rounds are expensive for some, but i think people miss out on airguns, (1) trigger training on multiple guns (2) long lock times on target, meaning you have to hold site picture longer than a real gun (3) 50 types of ammo, and constant adjustments for each type (4) best shooters in the world have used airguns (5) unlimmited ammo (6) experience dual recoil, some front recoil and some rear (7) scope adjustments for 50 types of ammo (8) all around more gun experience
I am a single mother and I live in a townhouse that is two stories. I don't always have my gun on my person. I have a 2 year old and twins coming soon. How many guns do you think is safe? Also where is the best hiding place that would be safe with easy access but undetected?
ALSO Sootch i'm sorry i don't mean to steal your thunder LOL but everyone check out my channel it's not as cool as sootch's i guess but i just need some support no trolls please just don't bother because i'm just now starting my channel but i do have gun knowledge and some fun shooting vids. thanks and support the gun communtity positively.
i am a shooter 100% i'm also a collector and advocate. I LOVE GUNS!!! I grew up on a farm shootin' my granpa's Winchester semi auto .22 rifle and my great grandpa's Remington Target Master bolt action single shot .22 rifle. I have an assortment of guns and every single one i have i take to shoot.
I use to go out once a month to shoot. I went to a different range. The gun smith observed me and came over and worked with me. I had trouble with the sights of the gun. I go out now once a week and I shoot 90% centr mass. Which I'm very pleased with that. I have to agree with you on practice time
at 1:03 how did he shoot the gun without hitting the camera when the gun is like really close to it? or do you have the camera on a different angle away from the hole of the gun?
ANOTHER LMAO at the end. I try to go to the range as much as possible, but with paying back school loans, and a recent surgery, It's been tough to afford ammo. I've been interested in reloading for a while, but have not done the research. I look forward to your reloading videos. Good stuff here.
Love this video. You are absolutely right. I guess you would call me both lol. I have a few older model colts, lugers, brownings, etc etc that I hardly ever shoot, but I do have about 25 or so guns that I shoot on a weekly basis. Roughly spend about $450 a month on ammo. I dont do reloads. Probably should though lol. Thanx again thumbs up on this video.
@Grizzy2011 Lee is supposed to be good for starters, but RCBS seems to get a good rap for quality (I don't reload but I've looked into reloading and the forums all agree on this).
I collect and shoot. I have owned 2 nagant 91/30s 2 M44s 2 K98ks and own a AR-15. I sold all my nagants and 1 k98. I have shot each rifle had a jam on the AR (hated the 91/30s like the M44 k98s I just wanted one ever since I started watching the history chanel and played ww2 games. AR-15 pratical weapon for almost any situation also ammo and parts are easy to find. I can't shoot much anymore because I can't afford to do it much anymore
Well said. I get many inquiries about guns and competing, and my main response is get out and shoot with what you have. You can always upgrade later if you feel the need.
im not sure what catagory i would fall into..i have many firearms and most of those i purchased because i like the spacific platform and have different models that interest me, so i guess im a coloector in that aspect. but with that said there isnt a gun in my safe that does have at least 500-1000 rounds a year through it. with a select favorite hoging the range time with 1000+ a year
How do you collect your spent or already shot brass off of the ground(for reloading purposes)? Is there a certain way to effectively do it rather than bending over after a great day of shooting and picking it up case-by-case?
sootch00: Don, On the advice of reloading it is always best to take as many reloading classes as possable. I will be taking a reloading class soon. What is good about reloading classes is that you will learn somthing new all the time. In fact this class I am going to their are gunsmiths who been in the industry for over 20 years and even they learn somthing new. I also herd Larry Potterfiled from Mid Way USA has great DVD's on reloading .
I practice with snap caps as often as I can (mainly my P11, my P85, and my 1911), but I'm on a limited budget and don't have enough free time or space in my home to get into reloading, so I can't afford to pump thousands and thousands of live rounds of 9mm and .45 ACP downrange every year - maybe 1,500 per year. By your definition, does this mean that I'll never become a "serious" and/or "proficient" shooter? Or were you speaking more in terms of competitive shooting, rather than self-defense?
@darkwriter77 You know, if you're a good shot, you're a good shot. You don't need this man to tell you what you can and can't do. If you shoot around 1500 rounds a year I'd say you're good in a self defense situation.
I would be a collector if the guns were cheaper. My only reason for wanting a CZ-75 in 9mm is that my .45 is expensive to shoot, 9 is cheap. But nevertheless, I shoot what works, and practice with each gun.
@mikezamba well Jesus never knew the joy of shooting some hot lead, he couldn't have known how awesome it is lol 2 swords is enough but 2 guns is just the beginning
I really like your videos, and to be honest the last 10 seconds or so generally is the most memorable parts of the videos. They're kinda like outtakes and generally pretty funny.
Sootch, I see you have a lot of "finger" on your trigger, it looks like the trigger is resting in the first joint of your finger. Just want to know your thoughts on "how much finger" is good bad or whatever. Love the ending, just don't cough if that situation is real, might pee yourself a little and your "jackbooted thugs" might see that as a weakness.LOL
Shooting is a perishable skill. I'd like to add that if you can only afford 200 rds a year, it would be best to spread them out evenly. 20x10 is going to keep you more proficient than 200x1. Granted, I don't have that problem. Got my Sr9c 2 months ago and already have 1k through it (1 light-strike, no other jams). IMHO, you should only have as many "defensive/carry" guns as you can afford to be good with. If not, you're a danger to yourself and others (including your family). Great vid as always
I agree 100% with you. I always laugh at people who say they shoot a lot and they go to a range maybe once a year and put 100-200rnds downrange.....My main pistol is a Glock 23 and I reload for it, and put roughly 3k rounds down range a year. And for people that say oh Glocks never jamb, BS I have two factory Glock Magazines that catch the slide every other shot. Other than that the pistol has been ran 100%. You need to shoot what you are going to use, dont shoot one thing and carry another.
My family has actually started to take up shooting. And me and my dad (btw I'm 13) just bought a sg522 and a 22 pistol and I'm looking forward to shooting them.
TheArmoryChannel is the type of guy that just buys guns....talks about them because he put 50 rounds through it...and acts like "this gun never JAMS!" lol. Hes funny and entertaining...but has no clue. I train professionally...and it's alot more then standing there, taking your shot, and talking shit. It's more then dressing your gun up to look "tacticool". It's about learning a skill and developing that skill...so that when a lethal force situation happens...you have a fighting chance.
I have always been a shooter but in the last year an a half I have really concentrated on the shooting. I went from a 27 gun collection, down to a 9 gun setup. Basically got all my needs covered. Then turned around and used the money for some real training and a good amount of ammo.
Am I a serious shooter? 1200 rounds of 22 lr, 10 rounds of 9mm, 5 rounds of 45ACP and 2 rounds of .223...every month. :) Great vids Sootch. I really enjoy your approach and the messages your convey. Very good.
great video, heres an easy way to tell a shooter from a collector. when your talk'n guns on a regular basis with a fella, ask him if he wants to go shooting the following weekend. not some weekend, the next weekend. if he doesnt sound enthused or exited he's probably a collector. :)
You rock Sootch! Having shot IDPA for several years, I totally agree with what you are saying about trigger time. It is definitely a skill that is honed by time on the range. Love my 1911's and recently have enjoyed shooting Glocks. Keep up the good work
got my first pistol (g19) in july and since then ive also bought a shotgun (mossberg 500), and a mosin nagant, i have about 2500 rounds through my g19 and 500 through my mossberg. i have yet to fire my mosin nagant. great vid sootch
Been following for abit now (since TNP shoot U were in). really liking your vids. I used to shoot as much as I could.. and collected what I could afford til I got run off the road by a hit-N-run driver. Now on disability (which if I only eat 1 meal a day barring doc bills) leaves me $30 a month to keep my pc running.. I wish I could have 3 guns of each caliber. I'm living thru UR vids
When you made this video were you strictly speaking to hand guns? Rifles are pretty consistent when it comes to shoot-ability. I only put down about 200 rounds of .308 in my FN 308 SPR a year and I can still hit a silhouette at 500yds...
I recently setup a Lee Classic Turret press mostly for loading .45ACP. I'm not technically saving any money because I've tripled my ammunition expenditure rate!
I endeavor to be a shooter over a collector, but cannot yet claim such a title.
I would say that part of my collection does sit but there is a hundful of guns that I shoot regularly, I just have to many to take time and shoot them all a lot. I would like to start reloading .45 ACP....
Sometimes your out takes are funny. I like this video alot because it speaks to where I want to go next- reloading. I have been doing a lot of shooting and it is the next logical step for me as well. The Lee set up is what was recommended to me as well. It's just Money, time and the honey do list when keeps me so busy for one more thing.
I love all of your vids ,but out of both of the 1991 series 80 colts (blued or stainless) which one do you prefer ?? , I could get either one of them the fact is I just cant make up my mind which one is better and holds it's value. Please help!
@Acefearkiller Wow, what a choice. I like both, but the blue has the classic feel and look to it. Either choice would be an equal investment. You'l love the 1911. Thanks Sootch00
I have a good amount of guns and I shot them fairly often, I consider myself a shooter/collector. I am proficient with rifles, shotguns, revolvers. But I can't get a grip on the semi-auto DA/SA pistols like my Sig P226. At ten yards, with my Ruger GP100, I can get about 1.5 inch groups. But with the Sig P226, I can't even get all the rounds on a 6 inch target. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong.
i wish i could afford to fit in to your serious shooter catagory. just not possible for me and the wife with current income level. however i do know just what my pistoles current position is and can strip them down in seconds tho. i do involve mysilf and the wife in every other aspect of firearms possible.she carries a glock 36 and i carry a glock 22. love your videos by the way
Great vid Sootch. I have been away from reloading for a while but still have all my gear and I'm starting to dust it off. I also bought a .22 pistol to get more range time.
I'm more of a shooter. I do have some nice guns stored away that are collectible. I easily go through 300 or more pistol rounds in one session. Have not reloaded pistol ammo in about 20 years. But I do reload rifle ammo. Love that ending Sootch. When they come for the guns, they will have to pry them from my cold dead fingers. Great job bro. Wish I could make it to the April conference.
Now Donald not all of us are in the jewelry business, and not all of us live on a large private compound. With range time cost's going up, not to mention the price of the rounds. And some folk do live in the city. Hah ha kidding you are right practice does make perfect. Cops only qualify 2 times a year SWAT every month.
If most folks could get out once a every quarter they would be above average.
Another great video, Sootch00. I used to reload. Mostly 9 mm. I found out quick not to get distracted while reloading. I loaded a couple of loads that were great except I forgot to drop powder in them.lol
The first weekend I got my competition CZ SP-01, I put 500 rounds through it. I usually shoot somewhere between 5k-10k rounds a year. Yeah, I'm a shooter.
Good video. I have a smaller, simpler gun "collection" now than I did when I first got into guns -- because now I am more of a shooter than a collector, and I spend more money and time on shooting, training, competing.
I have a hard time keeping a gun that I don't shoot regularly. It ends up getting sold to pay for more ammo, optics, spare magazines, training, etc.
While other people just enjoy building a large collection of guns that are special to them. No problem; different strokes.
looking forward to the reloading vids! I reload for .243 and .38/357. I only use a "leeloader" yeah the one that you use a HAMMER with. I only get about 30-40rnds an hour done. I only shoot 50-100 rounds of centerfire a month. so for now it works for me.
Dry practice is HIGHLY recommended. That's what I do mostly. You don't have to spend money dry practicing at home! Always have all your ammo in a different room from your practice room. Great video sootch!
I go to the range with my P99 on a weekly bases, so I like to think I'm quite proficient on that pistol. I also try to do drills out in the field also (legaly).
45 ACP is hard to master? Not when you have a 1911. With that, it seems easy to do. Really easy to shoot design and time proven.
I plan to buy a M1A but hopefully before the zombies come, that'll take some time to get really good with, I think.
I can honestly say the 45 acp is one of the harder guns to master but, once you do,everthing else is easy. Practice, practice, practice. And, yes, reloading is the way to go for practice ammo. I ,also, use factory ammo for defense purposes. I like Lee precision myself as first pick. I also make my own lead round ball.
its not a turret its a lee pro1000 progressive press, kinda a POS lots of guys have issues but if you can get them running some guys swear by them, get a lee classic cast turret press
as a beginning prepper.. I kinda want to learn to shoot a bow and arrow too.. at some point your bullets might run out because of unexpected events. with a bow and arrow.you can retrieve the arrows. and in my country it is easier to get a bow and arrow than a gun and good amounts of ammo.
Great vid! I told a buddy of mine he needs to tKe his gun out more often to get some practice the other day... He looked at me like I was silly! I bet he hasn't put more than 50 rounds through the thing. Whatev you can catch me at the range keepin it hott all day errday :)
The rules at ranges are so over the top now I can't imagine anyone going to one. The blow-hard, know-it-all, gung-ho types are all over the joints, and if it's not them, it's BATF guys looking to gig some poor sap for nothing at all. If you can't shoot on private land, then it's hard to be "serious" about shooting, because ranges have become 3 ring circuses. My 2 cents.
This is a good video man. I'd like to consider myself both. If it were up to me I'd be out shooting every single day if I could. We live down in Southern Maryland. There is nowhere to shoot. The only time we get to shoot is when we go up 2 hours to our uncle's farm. Damn how I hate Maryland :P
What a great video. It's amazing how your shooting skills diminish with only a few weeks of no practice, at least for me it does. The ending was a riot. I couldn't tell if you were trying to be a boy in the hood or a Cajun from Louisiana. Man that was funny.
I'm a DIY gunsmith above all else. I'm too poor to dump money into ammo, I'd rather have the nice guns now and later in life when they're no longer around and I can afford to shoot them regularly I will. I have plenty of confidence in my shooting skills. They're entirely general and not applied to any one single gun though.
As a poor recent college grad, believe me--I do lots of dry firing and .22 shooting. Trigger time is trigger time, and dry fire drills can be extremely helpful to a beginner, or with a new gun to your collection. You should know the trigger pull like the back of your hand on any gun you may use to defend yourself. Good video.
Oh wow. 1/3 the cost is a huge difference! I remember gwargwar1981 had a comparison a couple years back and it was a big difference like that. Sure there's the equipment price, but even occasional shooting would make back the money fairly fast. If I can ever move out of this fail state (NY) that doesn't allow much of anything, I'm going to get some more firearms, and eventually reloading setup. Thanks for the video sootch!
Gotta love the M1911. I can tell you're a fan of the design. I'm just starting to get familiar with guns. So far the M1911 is my favorite. Of course I don't know when I'm going to get one, but one of these days I will. Would you recommend a M1911 as a first choice to get?
@Indy1489 I would recommend the 1911 to anyone. It's a classic and has stood the test of time. It was one of my first Semi-Autos. I hope you can secure one sooner than later. Thanks~ Sootch00
Amen on the golf Vs shooting. I look at it the same way. I am guilty of owning guns that I dont shoot. My Springfield Armory White feather is one of my prized posesions and will never be shot if I can help it. You could not be more right when it comes to reloading. The education alone makes reloading a must for any avid shooter. I am trying to make it to the conferance. Great Video.

"You need to shoot what you are going to use, dont shoot one thing and carry another."
Exactly, I don't even know why people get that idea, save for training with .22 and stuff like that, which is actually making perfect sense.

To be honest you really dont save that much reloading... maybe 25% at best on standard handgun ammo.

Then turned around and used the money for some real training and a good amount of ammo.

great video, heres an easy way to tell a shooter from a collector. when your talk'n guns on a regular basis with a fella, ask him if he wants to go shooting the following weekend. not some weekend, the next weekend. if he doesnt sound enthused or exited he's probably a collector. :)

Great vid keep up the wonderful work you do.

Another good video, really liked the last 30 seconds. lol Keep em coming!
PartisonConfederate 11 months ago
No problem; different strokes.
classof77 11 months ago
I go to the range at least once a month and take 200 rounds with me when I go so I guess that is about 2,000 rounds a year with my pistol.

looking forward to the reloading vids! I reload for .243 and .38/357. I only use a "leeloader" yeah the one that you use a HAMMER with. I only get about 30-40rnds an hour done. I only shoot 50-100 rounds of centerfire a month. so for now it works for me.
progull 11 months ago
Dry practice is HIGHLY recommended. That's what I do mostly. You don't have to spend money dry practicing at home! Always have all your ammo in a different room from your practice room. Great video sootch!

SaintPatrick33 11 months ago
I go to the range with my P99 on a weekly bases, so I like to think I'm quite proficient on that pistol. I also try to do drills out in the field also (legaly).
45 ACP is hard to master? Not when you have a 1911. With that, it seems easy to do. Really easy to shoot design and time proven.
I plan to buy a M1A but hopefully before the zombies come, that'll take some time to get really good with, I think.
tiffyj85 11 months ago
Nice video, sootch! I agree 100%. I may do a video response on this. Keep up the good vids.
Justshootinpaper 11 months ago
I can honestly say the 45 acp is one of the harder guns to master but, once you do,everthing else is easy. Practice, practice, practice. And, yes, reloading is the way to go for practice ammo. I ,also, use factory ammo for defense purposes. I like Lee precision myself as first pick. I also make my own lead round ball.

as a beginning prepper.. I kinda want to learn to shoot a bow and arrow too.. at some point your bullets might run out because of unexpected events. with a bow and arrow.you can retrieve the arrows. and in my country it is easier to get a bow and arrow than a gun and good amounts of ammo.
kiekert2007 11 months ago
Great vid! I told a buddy of mine he needs to tKe his gun out more often to get some practice the other day... He looked at me like I was silly! I bet he hasn't put more than 50 rounds through the thing. Whatev you can catch me at the range keepin it hott all day errday :)
righyanb 11 months ago

RockerRocco1 11 months ago
What a great video. It's amazing how your shooting skills diminish with only a few weeks of no practice, at least for me it does. The ending was a riot. I couldn't tell if you were trying to be a boy in the hood or a Cajun from Louisiana. Man that was funny.
GeorgiaPrepper 11 months ago

Indy1489 11 months ago
