  • Proud to say that my dad owned a Harley sportster 1200 back in the early 90s as a young 20 year old. Same will apply to me soon.

  • 11.3 nice!!

  • Ive been looking to run my Sporty1200 at the track down here in Edinburg TX and they tell me NHRA rules require riders to have on full leather racing suits. Now please tell me why you are wearing blue jeans? Ive been dying to unleash my bike and thats the only thing keeping me out of the strip.

  • nice to see and hear well set up sportster doin what they were always made for, hence the name sport-ster.

  • wow my stock Dyna FXD only ran a 13.10 at 97 mph

  • HD Glide Hogs are for jean vested Biker-Poser old men who want to be perceived as macho. They ride the large series Harleys because their weight and age demand a rolling easy chair. Sportsters on the other hand are for true bikers..Years ago I owned a 1952 K model which was the grandad of the Sportster. The sportster was developed to compete with the large British bikes . Don't have a Harley anymore but still have my 75 Norton Commando which is in basically the same class with the Sportster.

  • silly ricer!! gook bikes are fast, but they are all the same yo a harley rider. kids toys.

  • Yeah, that looks like me trying to get it home before it rains!!!

  • Cool video. It's nice to see a HD out like that and it looks like fun.

  • Check out my 883 sometime, I have a couple of vids. posted on my channel. Cheers

  • That was awesome! Looks like it goes like hell.

  • Thanks.

  • I can tellyou have a air shifter and wheelie bars, what have you don to the engine this far.

    Thanks

    2003 sporster custom.

  • Toyota you Moron.... quit trying to be a "biker". Go try to impress some pre-teen with your "rice-rocket". The same one that a suped sporty would smash...

  • yes they are ive got a 99 883 with buell lighting heads cylinders and 10:5 to 1 comp pistons 1200cc now, portmatched intake s&s super e and a 150hp rated clutch. its 83.9 hp at the wheel never took it to the track yet i will be soon

  • Nice Bro i have a 96 sporty 1200C with 100hp i run circles around those S&S guys all the time with a factory motor just some other mods lol i wont disclose my secrets with still factory heads and cams but its nice and still streetable (plus the 3 foot wheelies)lol

  • BITCHIN! I had a 1993 883/1200 with Thunderbolt heads and Andrews N2 cams that run mid 12's. A VERY fun bike!

  • Awesome vid man! Check out my video of me on my '97 1200S, and my buddy on his '01 R6... Good numbers btw.... I'd like to be able to break into the 12's with my setup...

  • Thanks!!!

  • Hey, guy(s)? Get along. -and that's a F'n order! I don't want to have to make my way through this computer-monitor-thing-a-majig-thing and start slapping mofo's around. Be easy.

  • I think I know who started calling Sportsters "women's" bikes. All of the fat geezers that are too heavy for them. In my day, maybe, and only maybe, a well tunes Norten could keep up with them (I'm talking about Kr' and CH' models. They were always, and still are faster and better handling than the the "hog" transporters. A Sportster however needs 2-3 thousand miles to loosen up before they can "limber" up a little. No, they're not techno marverls BUT they'll go for years on end for cheap.

  • a 1200 unbored with xb stage 2 or 3 heads a good 2-1 and cammed with high compression pistons can make close to or over 100 whp. think of the xb9 or xb12 buells they make over 100 hp and guess what all 2004 up have the same heads but different ignitions and camms. i make close to 90 right now but need ported heads bad.

  • Sounds like shit.

  • because hes smart dumping the clutch isnt good for it and i sujest an old 73 sporty fer the drag way

  • I have a sportster 1200 and never took it to the strip what all do you have done to this bike

  • With the wheelie bar, why aren't you just dumping the clutch?

  • I still run a 130 rear tire and not a very "sticky" one at that, the slipping prevents any wheelspin.

  • weak put a wheelie bar on a 1200 jap bike, see what times you run then. as for a HD not bad at all to run mid 11s

  • So how much HP can you get out of a sportster with all the mods you can throw in??

  • 104.5 HP on mine, running high-grade pump fuel. That's with the Nallin 1250 kit, high comp pistons (10.5/1) ported/polished/flowed Buell XB12R heads, Andrews N4 cams, Mikuni 42mm carb.

  • Cool, and $?? roughly

  • I think it was about US$2000 for parts and $1500 for install (because I'm dumb at anything other than basic maintenance). This was for a base-model Sportster 883. Therefore, $8000 (price of Sportster) + 3500 = $11500. Not too bad for a classic cafe streetfighter that puts out that kind of power and about 88 lb-ft of torque.

  • It's not bad at all. It's fast, powerfull and most importantly, a Harley. Thanks for the info. May be I'll bug you again later on if i decide to do the same to mine.

    Thanks

  • I am not "full of shit on those numbers." The upgrade I'm talking about is fairly well-known in the sportster community:

    nrhsperformance(dot)com/ekitbuell1200(dot)shtml

Who taught you that the Sportster is a "fucking womans learning piece of shit bike?" The guy that got a huge commission from selling you a Big Twin that you're struggling to make payments on, that is slow as shit, and keeps breaking down on you? Nice job, way to parrot every wannabe biker RUB out there.

  • would be funny if i were dumb enought to buy a harley, i know the upgrade i have worked on menny evo sportsters and built one that ran on alc with a 51mm carb 14.6:1 keith black pistons billet crank 1383cc stroker with long rods and double valve springs and on a good day it made 108whp at best and ran 10.9's at 121mph

you are full of shit and have no idea what you are talking about

  • First of all, 0to60, I have proven you wrong with dyno charts that are legally enforceable. You can even call Pomona Valley HD in California and ask about my bike if you don't have a life.

    Your kit vs. mine:

-KB pistons are cast (heavier), mine are not.

-1250 vs. 1383 ccs: 133 cc's difference, about a 10% difference in displacement. Not very signif.

-Both mine and yours have double valve springs.

-42mm carb (me) vs 51mm carb (you). Not that signif.

    You're basically proving me right.

  • 0to60in16seconds

Y don't you go watch a video on a bike that you actually like??

    Or r u lost?

  • That moron doesn't even know what a bike looks like.... all he can do is "cut & paste" off of real bike sites to sound like he is a mechanic. He best watch (unless he needs pop-up pictures!) the "turbo Sportster" vid here on youtube... it shows it eating up a GSXR1100 at the strip. What a RUBE!

  • true dat but lets stick a turbo on a GSXR too and then see which bikes beating who.... and through in a corner in the mix and its a clear winner.

  • I have a 2000 Sporty S, trust me it's a fun bike to ride. I don't plan on having it as my primary bike forever, but I doubt I will ever get rid of the bike. The 1200S is technically in the street fighter class. I don't see why there was a need to be such a dick about it. You don't like the sporty? Quit looking up videos on You Tube about sportys.

  • back in the old day the real bikers all rode sportster

  • your so cute

  • Whatever Bitch... try beating one that is opened up. You'll get smoked...and have to eat the rice pieces that are left behind from your "bike" (more like trike)... ...what an idiot!

  • front wheel raises each gear. NICE

  • did you have a killshifter coz you was goin through the gears well fast and clean.? my sportster was bit clunky, but i liked that it felt like a real bike..

  • I use a Pingel electric over air shifter wired into my horn button. Thanks for commenting.

  • What would that run in stock form with only exhaust and carb jet mods?

  • The first runs that I made with the bike at the strip was with the following mods - carb kit, screamin' eagle air cleaner kit, screamin' eagle slip-on mufflers, and a screamin' eagle ignition module. With this setup, I ran a best time of 12.79 @ 104 mph. Hope this gives you some indication of what a stage 1 mod will do for you. Thanks for commenting!

  • XL1200s ROCK! Love em!

  • Ah, ok. 20lbs is good. The newer sportsters weigh 585. [Hence my previous comment]

  • 485?! How in the heck did you get rid of 100 pounds?!

  • A 1998 Sportster 1200S weighs 505 lbs. Not that hard to get rid of 20 lbs if you're willing to spend the money. Eliminated a front rotor (was a double rotor assembly, now 1 along with single caliper). Lost the stock mags, went with spoked front with aluminum hub, spun aluminum rear wheel, lighter pulleys, etc. Also lost 8 lbs. just by changing from stock exhaust to a Thunderheader exhaust. No speedo or tach - just a shift light. Thanks for commenting.

  • If you don't mind, what did you do to your motor? I have a 2000 Sporty and have done some MAJOR mods to mine, don't have time/$ to dyno it yet. Just curious to see what other Sporty riders are doing.

  • I am running Screamin Eagle .536 lift cams, Andrews aluminum pushrods, ported heads, oversize valves, Mikuni 42 carb with Yost power tube, Barnett clutch, Thunderheader and some other chassis mods for lighter weight... i.e. (lighter wheels, pulleys, etc.). Thanks for commenting.

  • Thanks! What are your 60 foot times? I ran yesterday at the strip for the first time ever and the best I could get was 2.260. I know, dismal...

  • A good 60ft. for me is in the mid 1.70's but my usual is mid 1.80's. (PS. Notice the wheely bar... that helps in the 60ft., helps with the confidence factor) Thanks for the interest.

  • I get no end of satisfaction in knowing that the fastest sporties don't have the blooka blooka blooka pipes! Rock on!

  • What are "blooka blooka" pipes, for the record? (Pipes mfg'd for sound only, perhaps?) My 1st HD ('04 XL1200R) I ordered SE pipes, I was afraid aftermarket pipes didn't incorporate cross-over scavenging). Is blooka-blooka merely vanity (for the record)?

  • Cool video,nice times!

  • Thanks.

  • WHOA! 90HP out of only 1200cc's! whats that beast weigh? like 650lbs? it must be a ROCKET!

  • Actually, it weighs 485 and no it's no ROCKET... but it's pretty quick for a Harley.

  • what kind of headlight fairing is that? and what oil do you use?

  • A modified Harley-Davidson headlight fairing - from their catalog. Mobil 1 - have had excellent results with it... thanks for commenting.

  • You got it! You are ready to ride a fueler. Stay with it. Do you race AHDRA?

  • I've competed in a couple of AHDRA events and finished third overall in a AMA Prostar event in Houston, TX a couple of years ago... not much competition experience though... mainly for fun! Thanks for commenting!

  • You have at least 90 hp

  • 883? 1200?

  • 1998 1200S (with dual plug heads, ported). Thanks for commenting.

  • compliments....

  • top speed?

  • My Sportster runs 116-117 at the traps and I have clocked a 134.6 top speed. Thanks for the comment.

  • nice times man.

  • Nice times, are you shifting by foor or air/electric? What mods?

  • Air shifter, Screamin' Eagle .536 cams, Mikuni 42, Barnett clutch, oversize valves, Thunderheader, ported heads, etc. Thanks for commenting.
