He was quoting unknown sources for his claim. But still some media outlets published his unsubstantiated assertions without first verifying them--even some media outfits have been harping on the subject incessantly since then. Al-Emara article.

There are precedents, examples, even establishing a rules of punishing "disobedient" children even with death (directly to be found in the Quran and Hadith). See Q 18:74-81 and Sahih Muslim,Book 019, Number 4457.

I'm very well aware of what Islam is. I've lived in a Muslim country for 11 years, and 10 years of which I had to study Islam as a mandatory course in school.
Islam is more than just a book. It's hundreds of variations and interpretations, hadiths and whatnot that some consider to be true and some not. And just like any other religion, you can be an extremist, a moderate, or just simply dedicated.

Lying and deception is e.g. addressed in Quran 5:89. Details are addressed in Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.8, Hadith No.621. Quran 2:225 opens room to deception too. Quran 16:106 ditto. Quran 3:28 explores a similar concept. One can make the case that deception towards the infidels is one of Allahs criteria allowing a pious one still to enter the gardens.

Q 4:34 is the (in)famous verse referencing emotional blackmailing and physical punishment of disobedient women. Many hadith compiled by Bukhari, Muslim and Dawud address and clarify this issue.

I'm very well aware of what Islam is. I've lived in a Muslim country for 11 years, and 10 years of which I had to study Islam as a mandatory course in school.
Islam is more than just a book. It's hundreds of variations and interpretations, hadiths and whatnot that some consider to be true and some not. And just like any other religion, you can be an extremist, a moderate, or just simply dedicated.

It's the people with extreme views forcing others to do what they believe is right, by their cruel and inhumane acts. It is oppression; and lack of sympathy and rationality of those waving the flag of Islam.
Islam doesn't promote their ways. Even if it did, it is still no excuse. Bible may say some seemingly cruel things too, do Christians go as far as carrying them out?
