  • i see the similarities and all... but enter sandman is 100x better imo.

  • Enter Sandman!

  • shortly after hearing this, metallica cut their hair and went gay. they hired Bob Rock and immediately became a pop group. at least, in spite of its shortcomings, this is a true metal song. ironically this is from 1989, same year as "Justice", the last metal album from metalligay. 23 YEARS SINCE GOOD MUSIC FROM METALLIGAY. and to think they stole Enter Shitman. the arrogance. never shoulda cut their hair and went gay.

  • Better than Enter Sandman

  • Haha, I read somewhere that Metallica stole this riff, I soon as I heard the original version, I thought to myself 'This is way better!'. Deleted Enter Sandman from my playlist and added this. Napster fiasco bullshit.

  • 2:50 = YYZ, anyone?...

  • Is just me or I found this a little similar with the intro of ''Souls of Black'' too?

  • This is actually really fucking good! It has much more life than 'Sandman'. I'll be checking these guys out some more!

    Cheers!

  • fuck metallica there gay this band sucks tooo, but at least they dont steal peoples tab. fuckers

  • The Jokes On Metallica.LOL

  • Dam this sucks, especially the singing ugh.....

  • Who the fuck cares.......

  • This sounds an awful lot like a very popular song which was written 2 years after this... Weird

  • mustiane sent me here

  • it sounds more like a slayer song than entersand man to me, but i'm not sure which one

  • min 2.50 : rush - yyz

  • metallica has copied this song from EXCEL.........

  • now if you just compare the solos....

  • yeah, i'll get shit for this comment....

im a huge fan of Possessed/Primus guitarist Larry LaLonde (one of the most underrated guitarists ever) and this sounds similar although much heavier to "Ler's" playing style. am I wrong?

  • I've never heard this song or of this band....damn. that's some NASTY fretwork!! who's this guitarist?? never mind, ill check wikipedia :D

  • @ajlukelepuke check metal-archives instead.

  • @canelitojuan will do. thanks

  • The cover is beastly.

    -Reimondo

  • @Dominator5515 hhahahahahaahahahhaahhaahahhahahahhahahahahhaaha good one there, pal. HAHAHA

  • @Dominator5515 metallica hah hah enter sandman....this is enter sandman, fuck metallica.......

  • @Dominator5515 hahah just like they didnt steal mustaines riffs right?

  • Comment removed

  • @Dominator5515 Check the writing credits. First two albums are a load of Mustaine riffs. It was on M.O.P. when that well ran dry that they started pilfering, turning Bleak House "Rainbow Warrior" into Sanitarium.

  • @Dominator5515 "The Jokes On You", faggot.

  • @Dominator5515 well sure sounds like they stole this one, RETARD!!!!!

  • @Dominator5515 Metallica has always stolen riffs. They stole all of the ones that Dave Mustaine wrote for Kill em all and Ride the lightning.

  • @austin2460

    you are an idiot

  • @Dominator5515 That is the truth. Call of ktulu, and Ride the Lightnings riffs were Daves. Jump in the Fire, Phantom Lord and The four Horseman were Dave's songs.

  • @austin2460

having credits doesn't mean they all are written by dave

  • @Dominator5515 Dave completely wrote those songs off kill em all. Jump in the fire was 100% his song.

  • @austin2460

who told you that ? dave himself ? you read somewhere ? or you just want it to be so ?

  • @Dominator5515 Metallica says so and Dave does as well. He has an autobiography.

  • @Dominator5515

    he's telling the truth, man

I'm reading directly from Daves book, written by Dave "... a song written exclusively by one of the members of the band - was "Jump in the Fire." It was mine."

Also by dave "I was the primary writer on four of those songs: "Mechanix", "Phantom Lord", "Jump in the Fire", "Metal Militia""

later in the book he rants about how Metallica didn't ask permission from him when they put those songs on Kill Em' All (after they kicked him out)

  • hay metallica stole it but at least they show the riff more often

  • ok nvm god help these vocals

  • wow this sounds amazing........better than metallica but i still respect both

  • wow this is so much better than metallica's lame enter sandman!!!

    metallica totally ripped off excel

  • tell me how to play this!

  • Just because the song makes use of the diminished fifth interval DOES NOT mean Metallica stole this riff. If you think it does you're fucking stupid.

  • @Metallideth1993 I love Metallica, my 1st concert was them and Ozzy back in 1986. I've played in bands for most of my life. I opened for Anthrax in the US and UK in 05 and 06, Slayer in upstate NY in 07, and a slew of other great bands. With that much said, I have musical knowledge, and Metallica clearly stole this riff.

  • @QElevenThirtyEight None of that proves you have any knowledge of theory or composition. Metallica did NOT steal this riff, they just sound similar.

  • @Metallideth1993 You're in serious denial bro. Lars always was a notorious tape trader. Excel was definitely a band they were very much aware of. They jacked this riff. PERIOD. They even went to court over it, but since Excel was a poor indie band and Metallica a rich corporate band, we all know money talks. My resume buries any of you math metal nerds sitting in your rooms memorizing scales. Google me son.

  • @QElevenThirtyEight If I were to pick up a guitar right now and compose a song, the chances are that the song will sound VERY similar to ones used in other songs that I haven't heard. Why? Because as I say, in western harmony we are limited to 12 notes. Some songs sound like other songs. This song sounds like Enter Sandman because the melody goes, octave, perfect fourth, semitone. The melodic structure is similar, this is not proof metallica ripped the song off.

  • @QElevenThirtyEight Also, you claim your resume, "buries math metal nerds" (such as myself, apparently.) You can't just say that, back it up, what have you done that makes your input superior?

  • @QElevenThirtyEight Anyone that knows anything about music knows there are only 12 notes in the chromatic scale on a perfect octave, therefore every single song can be traced to another song, with similar sound.

And even if they did steal it, Enter Sandman sounds way better than this, the structure, the intro, the vocals/lyrics... production value, etc

Hetfields riffs have been among the most ripped off ones, along with Mustaine, and you dont hear them bitching about it.

  • @thenamelesscrow they didnt steal it as this was out before enter sandman

  • @thenamelesscrow I would hope Metallica's version sounds better, being it was recorded with a much larger recording budget. Sure, any song can be traced to another song, but THE RIFF SOUNDS EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME, minus a few lil twangs here and there. Get real bro. Like I said, I'm a huge Metallica fan, but the facts are the facts. Where were you in 86? And you don't hear Mustaine bitching? Are you serious? Or do you just get your info from webzines? Dave put Pantera on blast back in the day

  • @QElevenThirtyEight It's in the same key and uses a few of the same intervals, however this riff is not the same as enter sandmans riff.

  • That's not te only copy of Metallica. Have you listen The God That Failed (Black Album - MetalliPOP) and Dawn Patrol (Rust In Peace - Megadeth) ???

Or Children Of The Damned (Iron Maiden) and Unforgiven II (MetalliPOP) ???

    If you listen... you'll know...

  • Now if they just had different vocals or left them out...Lol The beginning is amazing :3

  • It's kinda famous stealer, actually. Beats J.J. Fad's Supersonic, fo' sho'.

  • Big 4:

    1-.Excel

    2-.Power Of The Point

    3-.The Word

    4-.For The Outlook

    \m/

  • @DarkAbraddon098

hahaha dude this is one of the best comments i've ever read!Cheers!

  • @DarkAbraddon098 And who produced all of them? Who? Of course, Micro-llica ! :P

  • @sighin LOL!

  • @DarkAbraddon098 I can't find anything on these bands (other than excel). Like, anywhere haha but I want to check 'em out. Where can I have a listen to some of their stuff?

  • @EtannikufesiN ...really?....

  • Comment removed

  • @Warheart11 P.S. I looked at your channel and saw your vids. Good Playing :D

  • @EtannikufesiN Lol thank you, but yea the "Big Four" dark abraddon listed are microsoft office programs, it's a joke haha

  • @Warheart11 OH MY GOD I'm such a dumbass XD Ohhhhhhh fuck that's embarrassing... goddamn lol....... In my defense, the names were slightly modified haha :P If it was "Powerpoint / Word etc." I may have noticed.... MAYBE lol

  • I used to play this band when I'm working in Microsoft Excel 2010...

  • why do you guys compare that two bands ?both are awesome great metal bands not shitty pop so mature and enjoy both

  • It's a pretty simple riff....quite easy to 'accidentally rip off'....

  • Metallica should have been sued. Their whole career has been one big rip off scam!

  • i think metallica its so better , but this is a masterpiece too!

  • @KurtCobainNirvanaxD metallica stole it ¬¬

  • 2:50 Rush YYZ.

  • @opticomxDDDDDDDDDDDD sounds very close to YYZ, But these guys can't compare to RUSH.... so happy that one of the greatest rock bands comes from where i live...Canada

  • Thanks for all the comments. I'm very moved by you guys, tears filling up my eyes and dropping down my face. Thank you.

  • @canelitojuan Metallica being the latter I assume.

  • @canelitojuan YOU SUCKS!

  • You trolls can continue to say that this song is better than "Enter Sandman'. Just look and compare Metallica to piece of shit band.

  • @Zetsubou12345

i like early Metallica, but Excel happens to be fastier, angrier, louder and has more mixed influences (Split Image album). jerk off

  • @SxBxCxThrash If you prefer excel more than Metallica means that you are a faggy little sissy bitch. Nuff said.

  • @Zetsubou12345 That's the power of logic, words, and intellect, I guess

  • Or of a diet based on rice, opium and cum, dunno

  • fuck this rip off shit, this destroys anything metallica made after the 80's

  • Lol i love how this is a video response to enter sandman

  • Dave (Megadeth) said that this sounds like enter sandman and go to hell has that same pray LOL METALLICA

  • Interesting how the riff at 2:58 reminds me of Rush's YYZ

  • Kirk got the riff from a ice-T song, not sure which one.

  • @gavchie you lost my at the part where you said kirk wrote a riff

  • EXIT LIGHT, ENTER NI-, sorry guy's, couldn't tell the difference.

  • @forsthe Fail

  • @Zetsubou12345 I'M IN DESPAIR!!!11111!!!!!!!!!11!

  • mierdalica :B

  • This video is a response to Enter Sandman - Metallica

    EPICLOL !!!

  • Metallica is a shit

  • @sabbathcorey666 Fuck you, JUST FUCK YOU!

  • @xba222 Poser detected

  • @sabbathcorey666 your name is sabbath - corey, you're such a fucking poser

  • Tense your abs and consistently hit inbetween it with your fingers pointed, looks like u got a six pack lol

  • Two different motives behind the songs, definitely two different drivers of the riffs. I learned both of these riffs when learning guitar in around 91ish and never connected them until YouTube.

  • this song does sound a little bit like enter sandman but any other musician on here knows that there are certain notes in a scale or key that you almost have to stick to and those notes are commonly used in alot of music, especially in metal the e minor scale: E F sharp G A B C D E and if you know this scale and play alot of metal riffs you will notice most of the notes are these notes with the exception of the flat five in this scale (B Flat) or F

  • @adtrrocks1231 That's the silliest explanation ever. There's about a million metal songs in the world that don't sound "anything" alike, but then there's always the few that do. And that's more likely about being influenced by another song than coincidence. Like in the case of "Enter sandman" it's quite certain James and Co. had heard this song and Stone's "Get stoned" and were heavily influenced by them - on purpose or not.

  • Comment removed

  • You would think people would accept the coincidence in songs after years of songs being made. Over the course of time, there is always going to be some songs that sound very similar, but never the fucking same. You would think at some point in time, eventually, someone would make a song that sounds similar to another after 30 years. (By 30 years I mean like 1980-2011) So, even nowadays, you'll hear something similar to something from the 80s. No one ripped off anyone. It's just a coincidence.

  • @CreepingMetallica91 Like I just explained to the other guy: these "coincidences" are almost never about coincidence, but about being influenced by other song/band. And referring to ur example: any music that u hear nowdays that sounds like something from the 80's is definately NOT a coincidence, but a purposed imitation (or in case of pop music there's a huge chance of a rip off by trying to make "new" hits based on old treasures from the past).

  • @MaximusAdonicus That's kinda the point I was trying to make in my comment. I was going to " It's Called Influence" But there wasn't any room left for it.

  • @CreepingMetallica91 It was kind of hard to figure out when u were talking about coincidence the whole time... -___- But okay! :D

  • This is way freaking better then Enter the Sandman...

  • ... Metallica can suck it.

  • Enter Sandman sucks compared to this...

  • I just got to the part in Dave Mustaine's autobiography where he talks about Enter Sandman and how that riff eerily sounded similar to this one. This song is waaaaaaaaaaay better.

  • actually this song came out 3 years before enter sandman, plus its a riff. who cares its music. no 1 gives a shit metallica is insane and excel is balls so yea..FUCK HATERS EXCEL 4 EVA

  • at 2:50 i hear a rip off of "YYZ" from rush

  • @lakai958 Win...

  • wow... just WOW i love this song! i dont know why almost everyone compares this to metallica just b´cuz the intro is similar to enter sandman... this song i actually thing is better even though im a huge metallica fan, and now... im a fan of excel, thats how music work, you find new bands and songs that you like and not looking down on music that you dont listen to...

  • Wow this is so much better than Metallica. Thank you Cracked for referencing me here :)

  • @elysium735

this shitty band is not even close

  • @Dominator5515 Nope, not even close. These guys are talented! I can't honestly say that about Metallica.

  • Anyone with half a mind knows that this is played differently on guitar (I know how to play it). Its similarity to Metallica, however, as everything about Metallica has become lately, makes everyone flame Metallica.

Pfft. Listen to "Liar" by Megadeth and "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath. THAT's a rip-off.

  • @TS2ArabMovies not even close lol i just listened and no, liar is not a rip off of anything by sabbath. nice try chris poland

  • ERIC DRESSEN!

  • fuck yea! good song.

  • enter sandman?

  • Excel could kick Metallicas ass anytime.

  • :S carai

  • fuck metallica.....they haven't done shit since Master and Tapping fucking blows away that sad ass pathetic"Enter Sandman"shit.

  • From Dave Mustaine's autobiography:

"Then the Black Album came out, and "Enter Sandman" became Metallica's biggest single. Forget for a moment that James and Lars had a history with my songs. Forget that the opening lick to "Enter Sandman" sounded eerily like the intro to a little-known song called "Tapping into the Emotional Void" (recorded by the band Excel in 1989). What really got to me..."

  • @vitonervitoner that was an awsome book man

  • If Metallica did rip this off... they made it sound 10 X better. {:-)

  • Man I'm 15 and I worked for Daniel Clementes, awesome guy

  • HEY JUST LISTEN TO THE FUCKING SONG AND PICK UP THE FUSS....STUPID ASSES WHO CARES IF METALLICA RIPPED OFF EXCEL....JUST ENJOY

  • METALLICA WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW??! HAHAHA

  • YYZ

  • Apparently the joke is on Excel. However, could any riff be more ripped on than the 1950's c-a-f-g progression? Maybe only Twist of Cain/No More Tears/Thorn within.

  • I think if any member of Excel were to come on this video they would be super pissed off that hardly anyone seems to be appreciating the music and talking about this song but rather arguing about whether or not Metallica ripped this off. I don't wanna sound like a generic douchebag who just spurts, "Shut up n lissun 2 da moosic ppl" on every song they visit but seriously, can we not just drop the discussions/arguments/bitch-fits and listen and talk about this with bringing up Metallica? Thanks.

  • In my opinion this song and entersandman are different enough so that even if metalica ripped off the riff, it's usage was put to much different effect. and what is the deal, they are both good songs?

  • Kirk claims that he wrote the riff back when he was in Exodus. The bitch is probably lying.

  • @king666nothing LMFAO

  • ¿Who i know Metallica dont Rip Off this Song? Because another 20 bands say the same bullshit "Metallica Rip Off my song" come on, every body knows Kirk write the Sandman Riff at the 3:00 o clock in a Hotel room

Anoteher thing, Listen the second 2:50 That Sounds like YYZ from Rush ¿So... who Rip Off Who?

  • @Metalhead10ful looool 2:50 doesnt come even close to rush.

  • Hey! I HAVE A PURE FUCKING GENIUS IDEA! How about if you like this better, you shut the fuck up about it and listen to it. If you DON'T like this better than any other similar versions of the song, you shut the fuck up and listen to it. Amazing right!?

  • @SwantonTHIS Everyone knows Hitler, and he was a piece of shit. Leave my personal opinion alone, and I leave yours. If you like Metallica better, good for you, but don't bother trying to tell me which band is better, fuck off and enjoy the song without worrying about other people's opinion. Peace, and fuck Metallica.

  • Let's all be fair and reasonable here:

The guitar here is way better,

but James Hetfield's vocals are way better.

  • @oralboytoy We are agreed then.

  • IF SUICIDAL TENDENCIES AND PANTERA HAD A BABY THIS WOULD BE THE OUTCOME!

  • their album reminds me of the MAD guy. alfred e neuman

  • @djmm1397 it looks like howdy dowdy to me dude

  • I'm guessing Kirk was probably listening to this album somewhere around the time that he put down the guitar riff for this one.Maybe it was done subconsciously? I can't really say that he intentionally ripped this riff off. But, it is definitely similar for sure .

  • funny that all coments are all about metallica and megadeth xDDD

  • @danyzul you make me laugh even more, black sabbath, lol what do they have to do with this and don't come and say the bullshit everyone says "ThAY stArded DA METHAAAL" because they didn't invent music. And learn to write you dipshit.

  • @canelitojuan what i really mean, is that you can't use any tone, cos it was used before... okay so anybody can't use that two tones, cos they were used by a band before, if you talk bout metal you can say bout black sabbath, cos we all know they're old, they gotta lotta time playing and stuff... is just the feeling everyone of you looking for something to start bitching bout metallica, why dont you all shut your mouth and start enjoying fucking music, instead complaining bout metallica and stuf

  • @canelitojuan Classical & Blues Started Metal, Blacc Sabbath just used Tritones Mixed in with blues & heavy distortion, I love blacc sabbath there my favorite band, but honestly What the slaves sang, is the deepest metal, you can ever get. but it indeed, doesnt have anything to do with this song, its great, metallica used riffs from influence, everyone does it, but Excel doesnt get enough credit for their work.

  • @canelitojuan You probably make a good point but you also should learn to write.

  • @canelitojuan

    "They didn't invent music"

But actually Black Sabbath invented Heavy Metal. Hahahaha what a moron are you. Now get lost.

  • @danyzul

I believe the point is that Metallica magically had this song a few months after Excel covered for them. Not just that they sound the same.

  • @danyzul You full on mad bro.

  • @danyzul

It's no secret that Metallica is the best band in the world. {:-)

  • @danyzul

Aahahaha we got a fanboy who started listening to Metallica few days ago and he already knows everything about his "new best band". Aahahahaha!

  • @danyzul what does all of this as to do with sucking cock anyway ?

  • @danyzul if you wanna be honest atrist like bach and bethoven invented metal.... i ean all music came from classical obviously but metal (most of it anyways ) is directly influenced by classical..... especially thrash

  • @danyzul if you wanna be honest atrist like bach and bethoven invented metal.... i ean all music came from classical obviously but metal (most of it anyways ) is directly influenced by classical..... especially thrash
