I think its good that Google is constantly expanding an not standing still waiting for apple to "change the industry". however, for this product i don't see it competing with other internet centered devices, like tablets that already have apps and are more fun in my opinion. I guess if it is cheap enough it might make a perfect new computer to get simple access to the web while on a budget, or as a secondary computer for web only browsing

I just signed up for the pilot program. I have been into Linux, Windows and other apps for more than 30 years. I love using Ubuntu over Windows and Mac does not even enter the picture as it does not meet my specific needs. I am not knocking Mac just have no need at this time for it. Thanks for this video tour it is pretty informative in a general sense. I look forward to using the cr-48.

For those of you posting negative comments about it then you need to stick with a pc. This is not a pc. It is a web terminal built on linux written by google. You can't do things on it that you can do on a pc.  Everything is meant to function the way it was designed. You can't take a Ford F-150 and run a Nascar race with it and expect to win. Since it is browser-based, I guess we can expect VERY long battery life, no viruses, always will be fast and responsive (no bloatware to slow your computer down).

This is definitely something I will buy, because what I do on my laptop is browsing and using Google Docs.

How can a 'virus' take over a cloud-based computer?

People make 'viruses' mostly for Windows, which means that specific virus will not work on a Mac, or a Linux OS. Because it's another system, and totally different protocols and commands.

@ceacea25 Quick history lesson for you. Android was bought by Google back in 05 and Chromium was developed by some Firefox developers back in 07 I believe. Neither of the two are the same. Android is software for Mobile devices much like iOS, Palm OS, and Blackberry. Chrome is pretty much a web browser like IE or Firefox. Chrome OS is pretty much Linux that has been configured to just open a browser when it starts up, with some extra bells and whistles like networking, login, and power mgmt.

@alehax27 It comes with 3G connectivity. Only up to 100mb per month but that should be enough until you fix your net. And it's not really a waste of money. A netbook like this would be very cheap to make since it will only be used for browsing the internet. That's what a netbook is for. If you know how to use it, then us it.

@khashy87 Purpose of this device is for a good browsing experience, my friend has an ipad and he said it's junk because it's too slow and flash games won't work on it. Also, he said the iPad takes too long to boot up and Chrome OS will boot in 10 seconds.
