The Sun is within range of the peak of it's average 11 year cycle "Solar Max" is a period of greater sunspot activity and increased magnetic fluctuations these magnetic storms do affect the earth's magnetic field in turn disrupting the continental plates floating on top of several layers of increasingly more weak and unstable (fluid) substrata. So if this is only "near peak "Solar Max and were having monthly devastating earthquakes we may well have a "magnetic pole reversal" by 2012 !
