  • I always had a big crush on Joanne..... or maybe it was Phil cuz I thought they looked the same...LOL j/k Joanne was hot...

  • O how i love the 80 s english masterpiece music of all the new romantics punk and new wave idols. Dont forget the master David Bowie.

  • The blonde is always the better dancer. The other girl is just bouncing side to side. I see that in every video, that the blonde puts herself out there. Sorry I dont know the names, only Phil's.

  • Great! *****

  • The Human League just got signed to UK's recording label Wall of Sound! New material (songs, videos, album etc.) expected sometime in 2010!!!!

  • human league's music gives me lots of power and great moments in good and bad times

  • Excellent clip. I wonder if Placebo were watching!?! Early inspiration for Brian Molco!

  • Love the Prince Charming tshirt @ 2:45!

  • THANK YOU ever so much for posting this! It brings back very many fond memories...I LOVE HUMAN LEAGUE!!!

  • Good to see that Bowie and Kraftwerk's early work didn't go to waste. Top band.

  • Adrien Wright is the best in the sintetizes

  • sorry...front right row!

  • phil oakey ist hot.

  • your not phil oakey, he doesnt youtube his own name

  • Comment removed

  • Looks a bit different from the original version!

  • Synths are impressive!

  • phil = this what he do best at that time he is able to write songs on modern views way beyond any politicians can speaks to the masses forget obama & hilary, worship oakey's infamous lyrics do or die to the tune of reggae this is live stage performance just listen to the raw anger when phil sings ' Those cocky little fires u started in the night The independent claims that just meant "Hold me tight" The bruises on your body that you swore were from a fight' phil immortalized
  • omfg I have only seen them live once HOWEVER after seeing/hearing this i need to go change my shorts

  • uber cool.............where have the years gone?

  • I hate to see people mime guitar playing to songs that contain no guitar parts. Might as well be miming a flugelhorn.

  • That's a bass guitar, and I think he is actually playing.

  • There were no guitars used on Dare, Travelogue or Reproduction.

  • Yeah, thanks for educating me, I know those albums, but this is not mimed, they are playing this song live

  • And you can hear the twang of a bass string at the end

  • Thanks for uploading this. No wonder the girls caught Oakey's eye in that nightclub all those years ago........wish there was girls like that in the clubs I went to!

  • Martin Rushent, their producer at this time, said that Phil's main concern was not the music, that would be taken care of by others, but IMAGE. Image was everything: Phil had an idea of HOW the Human League should be seen by the public. When you look at the ocver of Dare, you can see exactly why he picked Joanne and Susanne from all the other clubbers dancing away at the Crazy Daisy disco all those years ago;)

  • Yes, I agree...gays rule. But Philip Oakey (the lead singer) is not nor has he ever been gay. He dated and lived with the brunette chick for ten years and was married to a woman before that.

  • Now I really feel old !!

    Thanks for the upload.

  • Human League at their most vital. Makes everything else since look boring

  • ok,who has got the picture disc of dare?

  • I got the gatefold sleeve!

    :D

  • i was 18 when this was out it was so cool at the time, just listening to it now and it still is.

  • i agree!!

  • True, he was from New York(I did say MOSTLY European bands). And yes, he is gay. Boy, you should hear the hip-hop fans reactions to that fact!LOL!

  • Gays rule.

    Hip Hop represents gays.

Cuz if it doesen't, then it fails to represent everybody.

  • You can hear a sort of pre-Latin Freestyle sound in this tune. But then again, it's no secret that a lot of dance trends were started by (mostly)European synth-pop bands like Kraftwerk, Heaven 17, Depeche Mode, Yaz, Howard Jones, Man Parrish, Yello, etc.

  • Yes, he looks totally fabulous. Kids its called Androgony, it's hot, and noone knows how to affect this look anymore. I know, me and my friends were into it in the early 80's. Bowie started it in '79, as usual always ahead of the curve, it was done earlier in the early 70's and called glam, but this time it was more sophisticated...by '82, all the chic boys were doing it....its different than metrosexuality which is half ass, but everything today is done half-ass...

  • Metrosexuality is about basic grooming and knowing how to dress, the whole New Romantic thing was about making a statement and being outrageous. Not that there is anything wrong with that!

  • ... or politically correct.

  • well said indeed!

    modern degenerates.

  • Human League is so underrated. Dare is one of the best albums of the 80s!!!

  • cute keyboardist

  • F*cking amazing - the League were such stars....

  • i always thought the girls were so tarty and bitchy looking till i met them a few years ago and they were both so sweet

  • Excellent!A rare find!

  • That was the sound i remember so well :) Spandau also had the chant thing going on around the same time, correct me if i'm wrong. The Jupiter8 and friends Wow!!!

    5 stars

  • Raw but love it !!!!!!! :)

  • That legends man !!! Without a lot of the 80's groups, a lot opf R&B and Rap stars would have nothing to sample their music so respect the pioneers !!!

  • Wow. French braid, red lips and pumps. But on the guy. It must be the 80's!

  • what a great time in music, man! funky and stupid, in a good way. raw, unpretentious production!

  • when i was a kid there was this song that i loved but at that time i didnt speak english i can recognize this guys voice im almost 100% positive that its him the only thing i can rememeber for sure from this song is a part that said "sometimes i wish i was your lover" im kind of obssesed with finding this song.

  • I think it's Louise you're thinking of.

  • What is it about the Brits wanting to wear make-up.

Is it true that all Brits are cross-dressers? It does appear though that Phil here applies his make-up not as heavy as that Steve Strange dude of Visage. LMAO.

    Cheerio lads!

  • TUNE

  • I'm just fascinated by Phil's shoes. I wish I could see them more clearly.

  • The shoes were from Ribina shoes sheffield!

  • u r fookin legends

  • Your vocabulary obviously shows what a degenerate retard you are, go drown yourself idiot.

  • O dear me, another tosser here on youtube, IT IS A FUCKING SONG YOU PRIC!!! GET A LIFE YOU PATHETIC MORON.

  • Anyway 'darkspy666' I'm told that you are the clown clapping his hands at 1.25 HA!

  • Go drown yourself in a pile of elephant shit your fucking retard. THE HUMAN LEAGUE RULE!

  • You obviously haven't seen them live this year. They both looked fantastic and great for their age.

  • Unfortunately I've not had the pleasure. However, go to Wikipedia, search The Human League and please tell me if you really believe Joanne looks 'fantastic' in the photo on the right. Sorry mate, I really have to disagree with you on that one :)

  • Human Funn!!!!

  • wow a live performance.

i wish i could have seen them live.

DARE is a masterpiece of electronic pop.

    it still sounds good today.

  • I like the analog synths in there. A couple of Yamahas, maybe a Teisco?

  • Fantastic. The League earned their place in british serious new romantic's/synth stuff.

Just to let every one know his actual name is PHIL OAKEY and NOT Phil OAKLEY!

  • I can't see what a rooster has to do with the Human League, maybe you can elaborate?

  • chk out those stilletto boots Phil Oakley has on at the very begiining omg!

  • Kinky boots- well done Phil, got more balls than me.

  • man those girls did not know how to sing, it was all philip Oakley...

  • I just love this song... the sound its absolutely futuristic abd original, a real jewel ahead of its time (just note the young audience trying to "understand" the rythm... no one can!!!)

I love to dance this at glam-drunk parties filled with extravagant people, its just amazing, unique, super human league!!!!.

  • ok who the fuck sayed this was made in japan?

no it wasnt! this was on a TV show and this song the best!

  • i totally 4 got he wore full on makeup!!

  • I recall this being great on the 1982 Love and Dancing remix album.

  • GREAT!!!

  • It's weird that it's not the album version... very stripped down and "live" sounding, but clearly they're lip-syncing (I guess it's the fact that the girls don't have mics or that the Jupiter-8 isn't even turned on that gives it away... the two LED number displays are blank!)

    mitchell

  • the background on this soiunds really great. the synthesizer part, nice!

  • I want a jupiter 8

  • Looks so perfectly EVIL...especially Phil!

Ancient synthesizers are the coolest junk, aren't they?

  • yeah.........

the commentator is all..still dont know whether theyre doing or dieing...wtf..sometimes they say really random shit

  • this is so great! I loved the dare record at the time, but I didn't remember this song being so wonderful (& listening again to the album version, that recording sounds so dated compared to this) ... listening over and over (& hoping that someone rips the audio, or is it available somewhere?)

  • Great song and dancing! Really cool band.

  • For a few seconds there, 2:21 in, during the little breakdown, they seem about the coolest bloody band on the planet. And yeah, Joanne looks great.

  • Yea - the Human League were (ARE) fantastic !

  • yes, its great they did this live, unlike the performances on TOTP :)

    great!..

Oh and i have the picture disk vinyl of DARE somewhere in the house

    great album

  • this is the only video that wont play

  • The dancing is wonderful!

  • "they nearly killed off guitar music" lol...synths, samplers drum machines eefects modules softwares guitars strings all work if you use imagination, the human league and bands like them embraced the future of music technology and folk who were stupid...were scared lol.

theres a place for all music..this holds up great love the linndrum congas...

  • This should have been released as a single at the time. Nice to hear this slightly different vesion to the one off the album. Is the guy in the blue shirt Mike Douglas who was on the Dare tour with them?

  • susan looks like a goddess here..this is her video..

  • Joanne was the best looking one in the 80s but Susanne is now by miles. Its spooky they really look like kids here, think Susanne was 17 and Joanne 18 in 81

  • Joanne never looked better / baby :)

  • Nice, but not as hot as in 'The Lebanon' video 3 years later, she really had such dark smoldering looks in that one.

  • those two girls were my first "tv" crushes, couldn't make my mind up who was number 1, and today they are both sexy and mmmm say no more. Love to meet them. keep going the league!

  • i bought a vinyl copy of dare a few weeks back for $5 dollars australian which is about 3 US dollars. i can die now

  • I had to endure also getting Welcome to the Pleasuredome to get my 12" single!

  • They nearly killed off guitar music, but they were a little better than Kylie i have to say.

  • Utterly damn AWESOME! DARE FOREVER!!!!

Do or Die, I love you Human League like you will never know. Actually you do as I told you when I met you a few years ago. Bless you, the BEST electronic band EVER!

  • 'And so we leave human league, still not knowing if they're doing or dying' LOL!

    Phil is gorgeous.

    Oh, and the song rocks

  • I'm also trying to figure out the haircut here....it was 'Dare' time, so that was either the peek-a-boo haircut, or the short one. The plait on his right side of his head would be hard to do with short hair, so I think it's the peek-a-boo one. Oh so great!

Amazing song. I'm bidding on EBAY for Dare right now. Ebay rules

  • What IS it about this video that just makes me come back to it so often! Phil Oakey is so sexy

  • That takes me back. OTT was so "adult" in its day now it just looks crap. Intresting to see a "baby" Susanne S already starting to play up to the cameras, she's perfected that now. LOL

  • Wow...this is great! Thanks so much for posting! I'm discovering the Human League, and have been obsessing over them for the last 3 months! Slightly in love...

  • Great song. First time I have heard it. Nice!

  • They appear to have gained an extra member here, who's the guy in the blue shirt?

  • LOVE IT!!! :)

  • great,i didnt think i would see this again.

  • check out the fabulous heels on the oakey!

  • very clever lyrics he must be registerd deaf... although it is funny to hear a live version with different under produced sounds the linn drum sounds very blunt lol....

  • what does Tarrant know about anything?

  • Tarrant likes Warrant, Slaughter and tan shoes with pink shoelaces, a polka-dot vest and My Oh My!

  • this is proper music unlike Gillan, no one knows or cares about whatever that is. i love that singing style and the fashions here. still sleek and sexy.

  • Cheers for this, great performance.

Though I seem to rememember the week after this show, after Gillan was on, Tarrant said "now that was proper music, unlike the bloody Human League"
