  • Poor things... they must have such HORRIBLE anxiety.

  • Thanks for the laugh.

  • The Elephant's swaying their heads like that is not a good sign.

  • get rid of people to create natural habitat or let the animals live as they do here, not much left for them outside of captivity

  • The general purpose of zoos, etc., seems to be to exploit another animal's life in order to appease human curiosity for such a minute moment of time, with the perverse concept of monetary gain being at the heart of this malevolent enterprise.

It's outrageous that our society has the *Audacity* to force other animals into the human labor market and economic exploitation system in order to unwillingly work as uncompensated laborers and perform activities that are completely Unnatural to the animal

  • Any being held without their willing consent in participating is essentially a slave.

So in terms of their design, structure, and even in some of the ways in which these animals are treated, why don't we just call zoos what they really are: Nazi concentration camps..... ._.

  • Poor animals :(( It´s so sad...After that never gonna don´t want go to the circus!!

  • Captivity is such a horrible torture....all this animals should be humanely put to sleep and liberated from this agony.

  • I've seen great circus acts with no animals. Cirque De Soliel doesn't use animals, and neither does the Gerry Cottle Circus in England.

  • @MondoBeno technically cannot have a circus without animals by definition of what a circus is.

  • @circusboy90210 Cirque Du Soleil is doing pretty well without animals : )

  • the continuous head bobbing is indicative of animals desperate need for vestibular stimulation, this behaviour is also displayed by babies and children confined in cots in orphanages!

  • Barbaric!

  • How can people do this to such magnificent intelligent animals and not feel one ounce of compassion? Its bad enough that they are kept in small spaces and taken from the wild, let alone the videos where they are being beaten and yelled at. It's so sad. I don't know how this ever was or is legal. Its almost as bad as factory farming.

  • I'm reminded of TIGE, the female elephant that killed the trainer in Honolulu during a performance and took off running thru the streets, she was just trying to get away from her abusers. Is there any doubt that they have a GOD-given right to protect themselves. People are so vain and stupid, GOD is going to judge them on how they treated the planet and all other living things. It's not about getting UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, IT'S ABOUT GIVING IT...

  • @guilfoyle2008 I GODDAMN HOPE SO (Not being sarcastic)! True words, too. People should also give what they get to others in terms of emotion and maybe other things too. I really Hope there is a God who cares for animals and punishes those who harms animals, nature, and even other people. These attrocities cannot go unpunished. Other wise, there is no true Justice..... :(

  • arrrr man :( terrible

  • This video is so so sad :-( Shows how far humans will go for 'entertainment'..

  • Where to start, I know!? I'm from N. CA, not sure where we stand? Support me with anything regarding my elephants?

    Thanks- Alesha-

  • Not only seeing them getting beaten, I find this worse for some reason. You can see the saddness in their eyes. They know this will never end until they are dead. It's so horrible. This is what really gets to me.

  • hey spanish

  • this is so very sad to watch these animals living as slaves....the ironic thing is that if it wasnt for people that (loved) elephants, they would not go and take the kids. if you love elephants, please stop giving your money to slave owners. these animals walk miles and miles in nature...how far can they walk with chains around their ankles?

  • This madness started in the USA.....

  • I hope that this madness in not taking place in the United States!

  • Well don't go to circus, don't support these concepts with your attention and your money. The VISITOR is the reason that this fucking kind of entertainment exsist. No circus would survive without YOUR entry money.

The Mind of PEOPLe has to change. different mind, different actions...thats all you can do and thats a lot

  • VERY WELL SAID.

  • you said it better than i,,,,these elephants are living in misery. i will be joining the next protest here in lakeland, tampa, when the time comes

  • HOW CAN I HELP THIS ANIMALS!!!?!?!?!?

I dont have some money.. :( but I really want to HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't take what cruel humans doing to this precious animals..

  • Heartbreaking. I wouldn't want my worst enemy to have to live in a situation like the one these elephants endure. It is just incredibly mind boggling to me how a person could ruin an animals entire life this and be able to sleep at night.

  • its because they r board they do that... they cant keep themselves entertained in a small box they rock 2 keep busy

  • I cant gather the courage to watch this whole documentry. The sufferings of these poor animals are uncountable. The are given a LIFE IMPRISONMENT to satisfy some ppls greed.

  • Driven to madness, driven to peform, driven to live a life of pain and suffering...

    For what? ....money....greed...applaud...laughter

The fact is...we do not need this unecessary form of work, entertainment or treatment...its a waste of life, resources and destroys life....

Teaching people the wrong idea about how animals should be treated....

Mummy why do animals circle and pant back and forth?

    They are dancing honey...

    Ohhh...

Its the wrong message to kids, or any human...

  • Sad, animals like these are build to walk miles after miles every day, not entertaining ignorants in a circus

  • These animals seem to be insane. Its the cruelest sickest thing I ve ever seen. Ive been against zoos and circuses since I visited a zoo in Canada. I was appalled. This video is proof. The animals go insane.

  • An American had risked much to film and expose stereotypic behavior in circuses and has several videos posted on YouTube. Search "patcuvie" and his films.

  • Anyone with eyes can see that this behavior indicates inadequate quarters, boredom, stress and lack of enrichment, if not just plain cruelty. The circus people who "care" for these animals and claim to "love them like their own pets" surely must see this every day. The fact that they continue to confine them and do nothing demonstrates that they care more for the money them make off them than their well-being.

Expose the lies! Boycott all circuses with animals. Tell everyone you know. Thanks.

  • please sign petition to ban ringling bros from using animals, google "banning ringling" for petition site since i cant link here

  • this breaks my heart, i hope that one day an end will be put to the suffering of these and all the innocent animals in the entertainment industry.

  • Thank you for showing how it is. This is not fair and i am so sad about any suffering. People are protected by laws but animals dont have any rights. This is so sad man.Things must change forever and human kind need to stop any abuse, exploatation and suffering. If wee whant to save our sols wee must ban slaughters all across the globe.

  • i think this video could be trimmed down quite a bit. it's a full hour of the same thing over and over.

it's horrible to see though. poor animals.

  • This was actually meant for the media to be able to grab footage from. It was originally used for a campaign launch.

  • @kingcrimson234

Is that not kind of the point? Stereotypic behavior is pretty much hours of the same thing over & over!

Not that I'm making a joke!

  • The human animals who capture these beautiful creatures for zoos and the circus need to be locked up with them. God did not put animals on this earth for this abuse. The captures need to stop. Put the people in the zoo and circus who hunt them for this purpose. They think they are the higher life form, so they can be trained to do amazing tricks for entertainment of the public, if that's what the public needs. Pathetic humans...have they never felt pain?

  • PEACE and LOVE!

  • free these animals and put them were they belong, in Nature , in the wide open Range.

No Animal should be confined in a Cage and locked up.once again: Free these Animals.

  • I don't know how see the animals suffering and then getting killed being a victory for them????

  • "NO, it will not. It will shut them down, which will be a victory for the animals!"

Now this is another area where you wrong, I'm surprised you don't know more about this...

If circuses shut down, the trainers will more than likely keep the animals them selves or shoot them. Which has been threatened already. If people stop going to circuses, they will suffer making their animals suffer resulting in them being killed!!!!

  • Animals should be transferred to experienced sanctuaries and reserves that would at least provide the animals with minimum standards of care and welfare. We would aim to rehome them in their country of origin. While they can't return to the wild, they could be comfortably rehomed in wildlife reserves or safari parks.

  • The benefits for circus animals would be:

    a) Nationwide standards of care and record keeping on animal breeding, deaths and acquisitions

    b) Inspections by experts, including vets and animal behaviorists, and licensing only after local animal control authorities (police, animal control agencies, zoo accreditors, etc.) approved the conditions and treatment of the animals

  • ADI has a proven track record of rescuing animals.

If rehoming is not possible or practical due to space limitations in sanctuaries the Animal Defenders are calling for the definition of a "zoo" under USDA guidelines to include an establishment where animals are kept in any permanent holding and training quarters.

  • Animals should be transferred to experienced sanctuaries and reserves that would at least provide the animals with minimum standards of care and welfare. We would aim to rehome them in their country of origin. While they can't return to the wild, they could be comfortably rehomed in wildlife reserves or safari parks.

  • The truth is in the DEFRA report that was produced by the government that gives an ACURATE sight into animal care in the modern day circus! If everyone knew the truth ADI would not exist!

  • ADI have no knowledge on this subject are giving out inaccurate information! I can't believe they are getting away with misleading the public in this way. Why on earth would a circus have a crazy animal, it would be dangerous to the trainer and the public. Animals can pace for a number reasons but NONE of them are related to the animals suffering from mental problems.

  • ADI has a team of researchers who have verified that animals confined in circus environments exhibit stereotypic behavior. Many animals that are used by circuses are dangerous to humans regardless of their mental state, so trainers use force and intimidation to make them submissive.

  • My goodness you really do know how to speak rubbish!!!! I have worked in the circus industry and I know what goes on!!!! How dare you comment on a subject you obviously know nothing about, it's very upsetting to think that people actually think you know what you are taking about.

  • Who are you to say we know nothing about this? We have years of research and undercover investigations under our belt. We have our own circus workers who have exposed the truth behind circuses - not silenced by money and public relations.

  • Yes you've exposed Chipperfield's in 1998 and we've seen nor heard nothing since that in the UK, which shows us there's nothing to comment on.

Yes you've exposed circuses and they've changed as you've exposed them, they've had to change - they were forced to change.

  • A World Class Government Registered Wild Animal Trainer now runs the biggest animal circus in Britain. How on earth is that bad then? The problem with you animal rights people is that your NEVER pleased with the hard work circuses have made to improve animal conditions. It just gets thrown back in our faces. No wonder circuses are fed up with the rubbish you are saying.

  • It is impossible to provide these animals truly with what they need. They deserve to be left in the wild, period.

  • Let's get one thing sorted it certainly is not impossible!!! Many well run successful Zoological gardens have the same facilities as a circus, and that's something that people don't stand out side of all the time and protest about. It would be every conservationists dream to see them left in the wild but we all know that if they were left there the population would drop dramatically due to poaching and other serious matters that face them.

  • In the population interest of the animals it's very important to keep them where they are, as circuses and zoological gardens are contributing towards the conservation of rare and endangered species. More than leaving them in the wild would do.

  • Conservation for WHOM??? I would rather lead a free life and meet a sad demise then lead a long sad life in chains being treated as a slave for human amusement. And "us animal rights people" are also against zoos. Animals do NOT exist for our entertainment; they have their own motivations, which are clearly not met in captivity.

  • Good! It just goes to show that the reverse of what you were saying is true: the circus industry cannot police itself, outside parties are required to advocate on behalf of the animals.

  • Well I would rather believe the government researchers that produced the DEFRA report as anything from ADI is bound to be biased. Just to make more money for you, it makes me sick!!!!!! It's time the circus industry sued all the useless animal groups, that are just after people's money!!!!

  • If we were only after money, we'd join the circus!

  • No, if you cared for animals you'd join the circus, not confuse the public and illusion them to give you money as what your doing!!!!

  • Talk about talking rubbish! Animals do not deserve this type of confinement and exploitation to make a profit for circuses. These animals deserve to be grazing in the grass and roaming on the African plains.

  • What a load of rubbish! All good circuses provide very large exercise units that give the animals the space they physically and mentally require, animals to circuses are worth more than all the money in the world so why on earth would we exploit them, this is just showing the public what a narrow bunch of animal rights people you all are.

  • The more money the circus makes the more money they have to improve the animals living conditions, so stopping people going to the circus will make a very big problem!

  • NO, it will not. It will shut them down, which will be a victory for the animals!

  • i worked in a well known circus and even though tigers do pace up and down this is not a stereotypic behaviour , and was proved so in the government report by DEFRA. They pace for a number of reasons including seeing children or other animals like horses, or just before being fed. Tigers rest bout 20 hours a day in a circus just like they would do in the wild. But in captivity we can ensure they don't become extinct.

  • animaldefenders wrote "animals pretty much do go crazy " being in circuses. This is nonsense. If so animal trainers would not handle them and stay well clear of any animal that is crazy or mentally deranged. Proves ADI have no knowledge on animals but do have a skill in brainwashing a niave public.

  • Animals confined in captivity often suffer from severe psychological problems. This can be termed as "going crazy." This does not mean the animal will necessarily go on a rampage; he/she may just exhibit stereotypic behavior, as I referred to, such as head bobbing and pacing.

  • ADI try and show they are doing this all day long. This is not true cats pace up and down for a number of reasons including seeing camels horses or small children. Most of the day they are doing what they do in the wild , which is sleeping.

The public must turn a blind eye to ADI who only try and expand Mrs Creamers bank balance.

  • THis type of repetitive behavior is not normal, and it is the result of animals being confined in captivity and not receiving the proper exercise that they need.

  • crazy

  • the animals pretty much do go "crazy" from being in such unnatural and confined conditions.

  • what is ADI's stance on zoo's and zoological societies?

Don't many modern zoo's have made great leaps and bounds towards providing comfort and recreation for their animals, encouraging natural breeding, and increasing animal's longevity.
