Yeah I don't much about small diesels like your friends, but if it was a car diesel it would make a big difference. If you check out the vids of my GMC you'll see how much they help.
What engine did you get and who did you buy it from, I have an old John Deere and I am thinking about putting this engine in it, how hard was it to put in, any drilling required
It's a Changfa or similar motor, you can get them on Ebay. Built like a tank; just don't get the ones with a built-in radiator. I'd run them with Honda HP coolant in the hopper.
Soon I'll own also a Diesel like this.
These are so chute engines, I love them,
Mine will be a Changfa R165 (4HP, 198cc) and I want to make motorized sofa. :-)

A glow plug system is basically used to start a diesel when its cold. Sort of like a choke on a carburetor.
