I think what most of the commenting folks aren't considering is you can rebuild that 302 and stroke it out(no replacement for displacement)... 4:10s gears with a racing tranny. That mustang woulda got all nasty on that probe and it woulda been lights out. I have a 94 5.0 it has alot of mods which were cost effective that are minor in the serious racing world. It will run low 13s all day with a stock gear and a T5 that's going out.
hard to belive its a klze i used to walk gt mustangs like that stock in my probe that mustang only has 215 horse 275 torque a klze comes off the rack with 220 average and the probe is a lighter car with longer gears a 35 roll would have been a kill from the start if you had all that if you do have what you say i would say get a tune not knocking your shit but you should be alot faster

with those mods you 2 were close in hp and your car was clearly from what was visible striped. the only way he might take you was off the line. since you were already moving his bigger motor torque advantage was negated. the V6 stock weight is over 200# more with only 20 more horsepower. The probe already has better power to weight and your goes even further
I own a 93 KLZE swapped 200HP MX6, and also own a 94 Mustang GT with Cold air intake, full exhaust, gears and although my Mazda is a wee bit quicker I still think it's a piece o crap compared to my stang. Why?? Simply cause no matter what's done to it it's still a FRONT DRIVE tin can sounding bunch o crap. Anyone not born after about 1976 will NEVER Have a clue...the sound, pull, and general coolness of a rear drive V8 is something no tin can car can EVER replace..

I do agree with you, if the 5.0 had 3.73 gears the story would have been different... hp levels where the same... weight and gearing is what won this race. my old PGT weighed in at ~2800lbs full interior, and fiberglass hood. that 5.0 is atleast 3200. and i think the stock probe gearbox i think is close to 4.10 gears. My buddy's PGT has full bolt ons, my 87 5.0 is bone stock, so same HP, same weight... he got me beacuse of gearing. lovely ford 3.08's lol. nice race bro!

I agree with everything your saying. except the part with them being cheap cruising engines. They have had the 302 since late 60's. it was built as a performance engine. That was very easy to make more powerful. But hands down 5.0s are overall good motors

and in case you didn't notice this probe is heavily modified and that 5.0 is stock as far as I can tell...you can't even hear it's exhaust. You'd definately hear my stang if I got on it beside this probe I can gaurantee you that. nice probe and good kill on the 5.0 but you guys need to look a lil more into stuff before you just start talkin about how slow 5.0s are.
correct me if I'm wrong but the probe has 165 hp and 165 torque stock correct? the tang does only have 225 cuz they have a shitty intake manifold and poor flowing heads stock and a very small throttle body....that's just how they're built...you can do a good heads, cam, and intake setup and add 100 hp or more easily without even going radical at all.
i say you have another race with that inexperienced driver. from a 5 roll. hell even off the line. you can't race a mustang from a 35. that's a shitty roll. that's like the talons they always wanna go from a 35 when they're at full boost. you can do your 35 in 1st gear and wind it out to 50. mustangs can't go from a roll in 1st at 35. i own 2 mustangs so i think i know how it works. regardless racing from rolls isn't a race.
racing from a roll helps with traction issues, it's a smarter way of doing it if you know all your going to get for the first 2 gears is wheel spin, then it's just not a fair race
I'm a ford man through and through but let me just let you guys know it's not normal for a probe gt to walk on a 5.0 mustang of any kind. my cousin had a 95 probe gt and I had an 89 5.0...it wasn't stock but it had like exhaust (just catback, not full exhaust) k&n and 3.73 gears and I put like 6-8 cars on him in the quarter mile from a first gear roll. I like probes a lot and they have potention but stock for stock it's not that close...the tangs have 300 lbs ft of torque, big difference

Probe GT with a stock K series v6. This one has the KL-ZE that is japan only and makes 200hp stock vs the 164ish a stock Probe GT makes and only gets better with mods.

the probe gt is one of the fastest 90s cars produced and you can find a good probe for 2 grand so there way cheaper too.
and with the klze for under a grand you can have a mustang killer for 3 grand.
i rebuilt my mx-6 and doing the ze upgrade next month along with some low boost and cat-back with headers

the 5.0 was basically just a cheap cruising car with good low end torque& mpg in case of the low compression ratio
but due to the light body it´s easy to make those 5.0´s fast as fuck
there are some 408cui stroker fox bodys out there which could run high 9´s any day of the week N/A

that motor (klze) is rated at 199 hp with 170 torque. either way the stang has to be an auto. and has basically no mods.

yea any 5.0 stangs are slow i hate when ppl think they are fast they arnt, the 5.0 was the worst failure to ford as a v8 i even beat my boys 5.0 stang with a 2000 4 banger grand am.

Probe GT with a stock K series v6. This one has the KL-ZE that is japan only and makes 200hp stock vs the 164ish a stock Probe GT makes and only gets better with mods.

man fuck this dude below me... never EVER EVER EVER EVER been a fan of fords but im tellin you this car is sick.. i had a probe in the back yard that someone just gave me and it had tranny problems and i just ended up selling it... seeing this car i sorta wish i hadnt....
