i like wal-mart because it, K-mart, target, toys r us, pamida, and the occasional pharmacy or hobby store are the only places to buy Harmless children's trading card game cards. if the grocery store 5 minutes away sold yugioh or Magic cards, i'd go there more often than the 30- minute trip to wal-mart
I can't imagine what a Wal-Mart would be like. I think they don't fit in our cities... we just tend to place a dozen ships you might need in one street so you still can go to one spot for everything, you just have to check out a dozen times hah.
In my city we have an abundance of Wal-Marts. We also have Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets for those smaller areas of town that scoff at the supercenters.
Sometimes entire strip malls (like you described) are simply demolished and replaced with a single Wal-Mart.
They use clothing, toys, and other items as loss leaders. They are the evil empire.
My super Walmart here in town is ok, I can get my meds for only 4 bucks where I was paying in the 20's for one and about 40 for the other at a pharamacy. Though I hate there game selection... never anything good and even if they have a game its never on the shelf till the day after it comes out if then. And while you cant buy insurance there is a tax center in it. And yes out of the 30 check out theres like 10 open at anytime... it sucks.
Seriously man, the lines will be so long that they block traffic and even extend into the clothes sections that are near the front, and they still only have like 2 lines open. The self checkouts are almost worse, because of the average consumer. The machine is repeatedly telling them to put their shit in the bag, but they stand there, dumbfounded, unable to figure it out. There needs to be a sign that says "If you're not smart enough to set your VCR's clock, you can't use the self checkout."

They are the only place that has my favorite cereal, Rice Crispy Treat Cereal. Though I hate being there, its too hot and smells like feet.
