  • Gives a new meaning to TV Dinner...

  • I had my earphones on and jumped at 0:36 :O

  • I would say the CRT had a shattering experience. It was busting up without jokes.

The CRT won't move....it has a broken neck. A smashing video. The tube is beside itself and needs to pull itself together. A person who looks inside a CRT should ask what is the phosphor?

  • what about a egg in the microwave XD

  • omfg!!!!!!! pease check cable REED GREEN BLU XD

  • Mmm, barium.

  • cool!, I remember this one :D

the RPTV tubes I have do not have that implosion protection band on them either :D

  • Special FX got NOTHING on this!

  • i had one blow in my house while tv was plugged in

  • cool!

  • Brilliant.

  • it poped like that cause the bulb tube heated up and lost its negative vacume and the tube is not designed to take positive pressures(like a air cylinder).same thing happens to light bulbs in a microwave

  • it looks like the flux capacitor at the end of back to the future part 3

  • Funny stuff. THIS is why they put warning labels on everything, cuz ya just never know what kinda goofy stuff people will think up.

  • Advertising the name of the microwave at 1:12

    lol

  • OH SHIT!. that was cool

  • Was the tube already dead when it was microwaved?

  • There`s a caption missing: Kids, you should definitely TRY this at home!

  • UUUUUOOOOOOOOOLLLL!!!! COOL!!!! hauhauahuahauahuahauhauhau

  • Best EVER!

  • cool

  • Awesome. Just awesome.

  • yeah that was amazing

  • You really need to take up a more constructive hobby - like drinking.

  • That was one of the better death by microwave videos I've seen. Funny how I expected to hear a kids voice at the end, but it was an older chap!

  • That was weird, cool and dangerous!

  • Thats cool someone out there as mad as me., never thought about sticking one of my $700 projector CRT's in the microwave, but when one gets bad tube burn there it will head, by the way just to set the record the phosphor will not light up with microwave energy as it needs UV light to make it illuminate hence why when the tube implodes and the arc starts crawling over tube face it is giving off UV light making phosphor light up.

  • $700....why the hell didnt the one i sold on ebay go for more than a lousy $35 ....JFC...

  • That ruled!

  • Awesome! Very orginal one to do. Love it.

  • No mercury in CRTs except some very old submarine and airport display units. Wikipedia has a good article on the phosphors used in CRTs, cadmium was used for yellows a long time ago (earliest color TVs). In general TVs are more dangerous when working than they are in the microwave.

  • There is no mercury in CRT's.

The glass has lead in it, it isn't going to escape unless you plan on melting glass.

Tubes that contain mercury are usually used in high powered transmitting equipment, half wave power supplies using thyratrons contain mercury.

  • I find it odd that the screen phosphor did not fry until the tube broke-was it the vacuum keeping it from happening?

  • Maybe it was the tube's exterior.

  • It was most likely the lead in the glass that was protecting it.

  • ok that tops out at one of the best youtube microwave vid. Awesome.

  • EPIC

  • dudes gonna have kids like that movie "wrong turn"

  • I am not often harsh, but YOU ARE AN IDIOT. As soon as you opened that oven, you were exposed to toxic levels of mercury vapor. The force of implosion from many CRTs would've been more than enough to force the door open, as well. Not to mention all this is bad for the environment.

  • THat was fucking awesome

  • What the heck?! =S

That CANNOT be good for the microwave. CRTs contain Mercury vapor, which is extremely toxic to carbon-based life. Other than that, that was an absolutely awesome explosion!! 5/5

  • HOLY CRAP!! THAT WAS SPECTACULAR! Imagine what could happen if they made huge microwaves so that you can fit full-size, 19" CRTs in there??? lol

also i had to re-type most of this message 10 times because as i was typing it, most of it would spontaneously get highlighted and as i kept typing, it would delete most of what i wrote. what the hell?????

  • Don't use this for oven for food anymore.

    Can you say "lead poisoning?"

  • what inch is that?

  • For those of you that are wondering, there is NO mercury in CRT tubes. It is simply a vacuum.

  • in some there are a small amount actually...very old ones....

  • Actually, there is some lead in CRT tubes. Like 4-5 pounds of it in big ones.

  • yea i know there is alot of lead...i was going to say that....thats why i dont want to smash them...

  • That is incorrect; mercury vapor is used in the phosphor on the face of the screen. I have been working with vacuum tubes for many years now, and CRTs have always been made like this.

  • who cares? the video was fun

  • Wow, it's fun to breath mercury vapor.

  • lol i thought about doing that with my old mini black&white tv tube... now that i've found this video i dont need to do this anymore ;D

but i thought it would display some crap while its grilling o.O unfortunately it didnt :/

  • Does 00:36 answer your question?

  • i meant when it's glowing in the neck...

glowing in the neck of the CRT and some rubbish on the front.. that's what i meant.. ;)

  • Looks like something out of a science fiction movie

  • that was cool!!

  • best microwave vid i've seen, u should do a plasma display next, lol

  • LOL. Complete destruction. Nice. :D

  • I saw that coming. but cool video anyway

  • awesome!!!!
