My father had it rough. Around 1985 he chose to escape Vietnam but was captured and thrown into prison for disobeying the government and trying to escape to America. He developed a horrible skin disease, and was treated bady. He was let out and tried again. He made it to America, where it worked itself out from there. He told me he had a friend whose boat's engine failed and they were stranded for 3 weeks. His friend and others resorted to eating a little 7 year old child to survive. Man...

US behaved very well in Vietnam. There were few examples of US military behaving badly. Those who tried to escape on April 30, 75 were afraid of the killing like Hue 68. In the late 70's to mid 80's people escaped because the economy was so bad. Communists seized private businesses but they could not run them. Peasants did not want to work because they lost their lands. Those who complained were arrested by secret police which was everywhere

my family escaped from Vietnam that way. my family was crowded on a small fishing boat with 20 other people. there was sickness, starvation, dehydration, and pirates. the pirates stole anything and everything valuable and then raped the women. It was one of the worst things to live through. my grandfather worked for the South Vietnamese army and was caught, tortured, and imprisoned for 3 years. thats when we decided to escape.

My father had it rough. Around 1985 he chose to escape Vietnam but was captured and thrown into prison for disobeying the government and trying to escape to America. He developed a horrible skin disease, and was treated bady. He was let out and tried again. He made it to America, where it worked itself out from there. He told me he had a friend whose boat's engine failed and they were stranded for 3 weeks. His friend and others resorted to eating a little 7 year old child to survive. Man...

But as for his friend, he had to do what he had to do (though I think there was a chance he brough food rations with him). For the kid... well he was dead when they... cooked him of course. US behaved very well in Vietnam. There were few examples of US military behaving badly. There were far more cases of NVA/VC doing terror and horror, assassinations of school teachers,, that sort of thing. Don't blame US for what NVA/VC did during the war. I am very proud what we accomplished in Vietnam. No other Asian ever chose communism again after Vietnam, it was plainly the wrong thing to do and America would destroy your country. Asians don't love life like normal people, you love death.

@Draco971 We saved and gave homelife for millions of boat people. You are complining about that. US troops were no longer involved in any fighting we had signed a peace agreement with both Vietnams. The Vietnam war started in the30's as Ho Chi MInh's Soviet communist revolution. It ended in 1984. We were there from 1965-73, a short timeframe of the actual long term war. We attempted to save Vietnam from this but you assholes did not find that acceptable so US Congress voted US military out.

Have you heard about Robin Hood who is know as "stealing from the rich and giving to the poor". That is exactly what VNese Gov't that time did to balance the rich & the poor in the post-war period. U & ur family must say thanks to the Gov't when they left 30% for u as the money for starting business. Many families were so poor but with their patriotism, they have been contributing & working hard , now turning up a happy life in their own country.

Vietnamese Gov't needed to establish such rules in a certain time to secure & maintain order for Vietnam in troubled times. - I differ on that. Former Vietnamese refugees are Happy not living under the current government.
- Heritage is not political. Governments and leadership change hands as we all past this life.
- I think you have to be young or a party member to look at Vietnam's past & present through rose colored glasses. If sanctions were not lifted and former refugee/Western aid, Vietnam would be like Cuba and N. Korea.
- I've seen many Viet students in the West oppose the current govt. after living abroad

They stole my parents' business by negotiating with a gun on the table. they told my mom either take 30% and they take 70% or lose all. during those early days if you are a successful have business you were looked at as a "capitalist" which was no good. We had no choice but to escape.

The communist authority in Vietnam always asks America for compensation for agent orange's victims but never mentions estates and properties illegally confiscated after 1975 when the authority forced millions of south Vietnamese labeled as counter-revolutionaries and capitalists go to reeducation camps, new economic zones, or escape Vietnam by boats, especially when the authority admits it as a big mistake and calls for reconcialition with "traitor" Vietnamese expatriates.

Those who tried to escape on April 30, 75 were afraid of the killing like Hue 68. In the late 70's to mid 80's people escaped because the economy was so bad. Communists seized private businesses but they could not run them. Peasants did not want to work because they lost their lands. Those who complained were arrested by secret police which was everywhere

my family escaped from Vietnam that way. my family was crowded on a small fishing boat with 20 other people. there was sickness, starvation, dehydration, and pirates. the pirates stole anything and everything valuable and then raped the women. It was one of the worst things to live through. my grandfather worked for the South Vietnamese army and was caught, tortured, and imprisoned for 3 years. thats when we decided to escape.
