I think the problem most westerners have with the Hijab and Burka is that woman are frowned upon, if not punished, if they choose not to wear them. I'm aware that there are dress codes for Muslim men too, but these are much more lenient and rarely, if ever, enforced.
Everyone's an individual, and if they choose so, they should be able to express this outwardly through clothing, piercings, hair, etc. The outward display of beauty never compromises inner beauty :)

I agree with female modesty.... my wife once wore and head covering.
So I understand. As Christians, many of us now teach our children at home or in Christian Schools that support modesty.
Islam countries systemically condone men abusing their wives and daughters.
