This is a very cool song. Great band. Like a pop gentle giant. Great lead guitar on this. I have the 45 that I got when it came out. Great drummer too.
i just found the mashmakhan album in the dollar bin the other day and it blew me away, not to mention finding the black sheep sample was a added bonus, five star album seriously
this is from their first album, and was on the 7" single as the B side to their HUGE AM radio hit "as the years go by" A huge contrast to this song! But that's testimony to the talent and diversity this group had going for them. They released another LP called "the family" which is slower with edges of country, funk and psychedelia and is much rarer on vinyl than their first LP.
Their first album from which this is taken is as fine as any other rock, soul or jazz album released by anyone else in 1970. A timeless masterpiece indeed. Their live recordings are also worth searching for, many of them have great material never released on record.
