It's not about being PC actually and it is a bit sacrilegious and takes away from the intention of the song. Having said that the original is fairly ambiguous and open to interpretation. You should know that Christians tend to be the victims of PC as oppose to beneficiaries. If the tables are turned even on this insignificant occasion it's a refreshing change.
