The sound will be an issue for us when shooting our short film, but I think we will just take a referens audiotrack on set, and then just re-do all the sound in the editing. So a lot of foley and ADR. :D
this really has nothing do do with the iphone, it is just doing what any device that can record sound would do. keeping a super 8 at 24 is pretty impressive though
Hi. We convert both the 1014 XLS and the 814 XLS to crystal sync. We can modify your camera or your can purchase one from us with the mod. We also do the MAX 8 16 x 9 mods for these and we offer a discount when both are done at the same time. Call 818-848-5522 for more info.

This is good. I wonder how does one of those cameras get a crystal sync motor. Is it already in the camera or was it added by Pro8mm? I suppose getting an IPhone wasn't too hard. Show this to everyone to prove that film is far from finished in this day and age.
@3baxcb hi, the crystal module is a modification we can add to the camera. We can modify the Canon 1014 XLS and the Beaulieu 4008 to have the crystal controlled motor. Check out pro8mm.com or call in to find out more
@pro8mm I suppose you haven't ever added a crystal module to a Nizo or Elmo. Is it that Canon and Beaulieu are the best suited to getting cystal sync or could any Super 8 camera get fit?
@3baxcb We can only do it to those 2 cameras because we don't know the internal mechanics of other cameras. It takes quite a lot of research and testing to figure out how the other cameras work and whether a crystal module will fit/work in them, and there hasn't been a high enough demand for it.
@pro8mm I'm just curious to know if pro8mm ever modified the Canon 1014 (regular, grey covered type), Canon 814 auto zoom or the Canon 814 XLS with crystal-sync motor.
@goodnewsfilms7 the camera shoots at 24 frames a second, and was also transferred at 24 frames a second. However, it's played back at 23.98 because of the digital conversion. the iphone app we used was the sound memo recorder. i don't know what framerate it records in. you could ask a sound mixer that question because it's something that s/he would have to keep. sorry i don't know the answer

When shooting with audio in mind, is crystal sync really necessary? And why is installing the sync so expensive?

I am a little curious on this, but can or do you convert a Kodak Instamatic M24 model to crystal sync or single-system?

@pro8mm Alright, I just want to know that Pro8mm cartridges can be loaded and run with Nizo, Elmo or any other Super 8mm camera.
