Oh it's more than making noises. We used to have an African Grey just like this one. They don't just mimic what they hear like I once thought. No, they actually can reason and will put sentances together in a logical manner. Ours tells us when she was cold, hot, tired, what she wanted to eat etc. She yells at my dad,"Merle! Portia wants to talk to you about something." Just all kinds of things. She even yelled at the dogs, called tjhem by name, saying they needed to go potty. She is so funny!
