  • anyone knows the name of the music, so fantastic and memorable since my childhood...

  • Hi lemueltay......the music is indian fusion it's by BIDDU but the steps in the dance is not indian ...it's all purely malay dance steps...and calling it Indian dance...i agree it has been performed..but don't tell this is indian dance by putting in all the malay dance step...if u choreograph it using indian dancesteps then call it indian dance if not don't try to be too clever to call it indian dance sickening

  • @kalai45 I think the performance I saw (1985-86) was more Indian, but that was so many years ago. Wish the VHS tape I had still worked, but it went mouldy! That version was more Indian bollywood, more in the style of a big dance number in the middle of the plot. The lead dancer was a classically trained Indian dancer, so she taught the other girls the contemporary steps so beloved of blockbusters. But I agree, this version must have been some kind of adaptation to a more Malay candle dance.

  • Interesting adaptation. I saw a more classically Indian dance performance of this in Melaka circa 1986, performed by SMK Sacred Heart Melaka, as part of the Drama Competition sponsored by the Melaka Theatre Group. The person in charge of the choreography was daughter of Mr. K Narnasamy; she was a classically trained Indian dancer. The choreography of your dance has the hallmarks of that dance, so that must shed some light on its origins.

  • what the music name?

  • there is no such thing as malaysian indian dance.....indian classical forms are of six , bharatanatyam(tamilnadu), kuchipudi(andhhra pradesh), kathakali & mohiniyaatam(kerala), katha(utharapradesh) and odissi(orissa) all these dance is based on the natyashastra(the dance treatise wrote 5 000 years ago by sage bharata).....u can call it a fusion dance and not indian dance....I can't see any salient features of indian classical excert the constumes and music.

  • by putting all malay dance steps like inang and putting on indian costumes and music doesn't make it indian dance for your information....call it a fusion but not indian dance

  • my foot this is indian dance

  • @kalai45 This is Malay Indian dance are you a expert on Malaysian Indian dance?

  • @kalai45

I saw a very similar dance to this performed in 1986 as part of "Cinderella", a drama performed by SMK Sacred Heart, Melaka. Dunno why there was an interlude in the drama for a dance, but there you go. The lead dancer was a dancer classically trained in Indian dance, who taught the dance to five other Chinese girls. The other girls did the best they could, but even the untrained eye could see they lacked the "finish". So this must be some kind of adaptation. BTW, exact same music.

  • LOVELY!
