Nothing against Maya, but Victor was the heart of Space: 1999. "Black Sun" and "The Last Sunset" are testaments to Barry Morse's brilliance. The series couldn't recover from his departure.
again hoping freddy reads this somehow , you ruined space 1999, even the remaining actors said your direction for this series ruined it. Gerry Anderson you took pride in your work & did great things , you end with a black smear having used this director , what was respect for you as a producer of things of interest and fascination is gone you make garbage. That statement has many people behind it also, including cast from space.
barry was a serious part of this series, as johnny byrne said the1st season made the viewer feel it was almost believable, you were travelling with them, they didnt have answers 4 much of anything they came across & it was like life what s next ! I wish freddy 'kruger' Friedberger to hear , you ruined this unique series your changes of cast , set layout, barry gray episode music which crerated a whole feel of the show in itself , turned it into an empty idiotic junk, even your cast said it
hats off for barry a true gentleman .....they dont make them like that anymore ......what happend to the alphans in the program did they find a place to live , i never really worked that out
Dear "old and wise" Professor Bergman, dear Barry.....I'll never forget you. I'll never forget the old and smiling scientist who had the answer to any kind of question, scientific or human. Thanks, Barry.
You're timing putting this tribute together is perfect! The song choice is great, too! I enjoyed Barry's acting immensely and he will always be missed.
I didnt know Barry passed away. He had a real friendly face. I loved Space 1999 when I a kid,,, I love the last saying in the vid here. Great tribute,, god job.
He was one of my favourite things about Space: 1999. Barry Morse's very presence in the cast gave the show class. It was one of the great mistakes made by the producers to get rid of him for season two.
It is too bad that Barry didn't play on to the second series....but if he did? How would Maya and Tony play out? I guess they wouldn't? So, if no Tony and Maya...then more of "our gang".....but would have they evolved what we know of them know? Interesting question.
He was an outstanding actor. He injected so much personality and thought into his roles, yet he made it look easy. His role on Space 1999 was great; he was the best actor consistantly. I guess that scene where he and Koenig have a glass of brandy was improvised for the most part.
Dialogue was written for the first episode of season 2 in which it was explained that Victor died in a spacesuit accident and Paul and Kano were killed in an Eagle crash, but the lines were dropped from the script before shooting commenced, so there was never any explanation within the TV series as to why the characters disappeared.
@kirkenbunken They never really said. Victor was replaced by Maya, which was a stupid thing to do, as I loved Victor Bergman above all. The reason why I found out his other acting credits was because he was so great in Space 1999. They tried to make younger people like Space 1999, for fuck sake, Victor Bergman just disappeared. I think they said he was blow out of an airlock in some silly second season episode. :( To me, Victor Bergman still is alive forever.
The song in this video is "Old and wise" by Alan Parson's Project. The album is 'Eye in the Sky' and it was first released in 1981. I'm sure Amazon would have a cd of it.
There is another track on there called 'Children of the Moon' Hmmmmm.....
@mikeismad61 which asked about the song: the song, or the entire album "Eye in the Sky" is definitely available in new remastered edition from the Alan Parsons Project official site (link from my channel). The songwriter Eric Woolfson passed away two weeks ago, Old and Wise is one of his gems and sounds quite appropriate in this moment. Barry is of course a myth too, I got all Space1999 in DVD and saw it here in Italian TV as a child. An exceptional UK/Italian coproduction.
Beautiful tribute. I was a kid when Space 1999 premiered on channel 11, and I immediately fell in love with the show and with Barry as Prof. Bergman. When the second season began and there was no trace of Victor, I was heartbroken. Shapeshifters are generally fun to have around, but nothing Maya did (or changed into) compensated for the warmth, humanity, humor, intelligence and delight that Barry Morse brought to the show. He was wonderful in his scenes with the tense Koenig. Viva Victor!
About 1980,Barry Morse made a film with Gary Reineke and Fulton McKay called "Songs of a Sourdough" a documentary about R.W.Service,does anybody out there know about it,if so,could you post it on Youtube please.Thank you.Richie UK
well done... thank you for 2 things, a wonderful tribute to Barry Morse and making me curious about getting the entire Eye in the Sky album - I was only familiar with the title song which I love, now I guess I'll go and check out the entire album
I hope Koenig never got together with Maya then! This was also a childhood memory for me although I was much to young to take much from it but I loved this show too... the bits and parts I remember. A weird series of random events and links triggered a memory of this show that I had forgotten I had... it all started with seeing a clip about the Jack Nicholson movie Five Easy Pieces - the connecting links from that starting point was crazy but here I am!
I only found out that Barry Morse had passed away yesterday, and had only recently become interested in his work. He truly brought a lot to anything he worked on, he was what made both the fugitive and Space 1999. This is a very nice tribute. RIP Barry Morse.
My dad and I used to watch this together back in the 1970's. He died in 1978 when he commited suicide. This show only lasted a couple seasons but I think of him when I see this show. Now I'm living in the future with Cell phones, PDAs, Flat LCD, Internet, and more trips into space than ever, but the future is a lonely place :(
It was great sadness to hear of Barry Morse's passing. As a thirteen-year-old boy back in 1973, I loved his portrayal as Victor Bergman -- a man who saw joy, possibility and awe in all things within the universe. I was inspired by his performance and have fondly thought about him over the years. I had the privilege of meeting him at a convention in 1985.

After 30 years, I still have the mint condition photo of Barry Morse portraying Professor Bergman on Space 1999. The personalized, autographed photo was a surprise to me at the time, and a kind thing for him to do.
What a lovely tribute video! It almost made me cry. I want to embed it in my LiveJournal blog, if you don't mind. I loved this show when I was growing up, and Victor was always my favorite character. His warmth, humanity and naturalness made all the difference to the sterile environment in which the cast of characters lived. I bonded with Victor more than any other Alphan; I still love him deeply, and I will miss Barry Morse for a long time. RIP Barry Morse, and Long Live Victor!!
This tribute shows the beauty of Barry Morse and his great character Victor Bergman. Thank you for this tribute and thanks to Barry Morse for all his life.

Barry was perhaps one of my most favorite Actors. I especially loved him in his roll as Prof Victor Bergman from Space 1999.
The character he portrayed was a very warm, compassionate, inquisitive & thoughtful character.
I never knew him personally but I can only imagine that he was just as nice off screen & out of character.
He will be missed.
Thank you for all the great work & great memories Barry.
God speed sir.
Thank you for posting this fine tribute for a fine Actor!

I truly regret of not having gone to the two Breakaway conventions both in LA and NYC.
I hope that there will be another convention here in Canada eighter in Toronto or Ottawa would even be better.
As I just found out about Barry Morse's passing, I could not beleive how overwhelmed I was,
just sitting in front of my computer screen just watching and crying or sadness.
May Barry rest in peace foever, and as Barry said, "To everyting that have YET to be"!

And our bedrooms as the Medical Center. Our entire house was Moonbase Alpha! I used to pretend that the eagles
were all underground our front lawn in the hangar.I watched Space:1999 so much that one of my cousin can't stand
watching ANY space or science-fiction show or movie!

I have grown up watching Space:1999. Martin Landau and Babara Bain were like parents to me, and Barry Morse
(Victor) like my uncle! I loved the series so much, I used to have lots of dreams about it.
At one point for a few years of my childhood life, SPACE:1999 was such a part of me I used to play with my sister
in our house doing acting and creating scenarios about Space:1999!!!I would be John Koenig the commander,
and my sister would be Maya!
