Just been reading about Darcys home pemberly on the web. And apparently according to the web £10,000 a year wouldnt of been enough to upkeep the place. I cant see how, the Estate was his by his anchesters, all he would of needed to do is keep all the staff, and general upkeep of the place.

I think it's because he want's to let go of his proper image for a little bit (which is why they flash his stern looking portrait). I guess you could say that Elizabeth inspired him to be a little more lax with himself, so he jumps into a pond; which is a nutty thing to do if you are still dressed:)

My thoughts: Bindley goes on about how he is such a good friend, the housekeeper says he is such a kind boss, and he himself mentions he doesn't easily talk with people he has just met. I assumed his stuffy manner was more to do with being uncomfortable around new people. Whereas he is much more relaxed and friendly in his home and with people he knows. I think the series was trying to show the other side of Darcy that we hadn't seen yet.
