Setting up and screen printing a 4 color design would take much longer than heat applied film and be more cost prohibitive at small quantities. Some quick math, would have me at $80 in set up for screen printing, at a quantity of say 10 pieces or less this would cost $8 a piece. Heat applied film costs about $1 per sq/ft. 4 colors x $1 = $4 a piece. Of course there are additional labor calculations etc. but the breaking point for this job is somewhere around 15 -20 shirts.
@ktekx I would sure hate to do 100 shirts that require 4 color plotting, weeding, and registration for each shirt. This method is suited for smaller orders.
Did she really say a 4 color ceding in 20 seconds? This is misleading. The time she took to press is much longer than that and the total time to cut/press is even longer. Love Stahls and their products, but this is a tad misleading from a marketing perspective.
This technique seems impractical for large volume screen printing.

the cost on one shirt is too much for a multicolor... just screen print it.

@filipinostickers screen printing 1 shirt requires much more labor time and costs more because of setup time for the screen.

@vo7tage yep, the cost trade off is between quantity and setup time.

this seems to take too long for only one shirt. printing bulk? the cutting and weeding and pressing is not efficient.. just screen print it.

@savagecat45 You're not using transfer vinyl for bulk. And screenprinting a 1-off shirt is taking longer and is more expensive than this.
