  • sub

  • The way Azrael talks, his voice actor wins at everything.

  • Japanese is way more drammatic. They scream all the way!

  • Japs versions better, when I heard

"You basterd!" on english, I thought it was you self-dubbed it.

  • english dub

  • That's Gundam Seed, Destiny is the sequal, but otherwise, overall i like the dub of it more XD Though Murrue's japanese VA scream was intensely dramatic, but overall, Dub lol

  • i liked the jap version of her scream and crying cuz the dub sounds like she's laughing but i've always like the dub version of gundam seed better than jap. besides cagalli sounds better to me in the dub than the jap. about more dramatic... hm... idk.. jap i guess. but it's hard to say.

  • sub obviously what else would you say, dub of course not

  • MUUUUUU! Sounds like shes trying to impersonate a cow!!!!!!!!

  • And if u don't think so that is cuz u soooo don't understand linguistics..... K' duh scientifically proven biotch

  • Eng sub o so damn obvious .... Uderstand what I say!!!!

  • they both sound fine to me really >_>

  • I like the subs better..cus I love the Japanese language.

  • English voices just sound more dramatic... "see I told you I could make the impossible possible" I'm like omg WTF fav character gone in a flash and with verble irony to boot.. It makes for a great story unlike most anime ( damn you dbz)

  • I prefer japanese but English is awesome too!!

  • Comment removed

  • DEATH NOTE IS MOAR EPIC!!!

  • The english dub is more dramatic but either way the eng sub is still good probably english dub is 0.5 more dramatic.

  • Must say, the helm did sounded more in deep shit in jap than eng, But Mu's death was way more dramatic in eng, the jap was just fail. I also giv to eng when murue orders the deployment of the Lohengrin,as well for the firing with both the capt and......that other capt(I forgot her name nuuuuuu!!!!!). Eng dub for me

  • @3:15 and 3:45

The voices suits the situation waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the eng dub. There's just something about the japanese voice actors being better at this.

  • I totally agree with you... Especially about 3:15.

  • sub of course. ignorant american licnesors need to invest more money on getting better voice actors/actresses.

  • yeah.... some do A good job, but there arent enough like them...

  • english dub its more dramatic if you hear it in a diferent tone then simply reading

  • eng dub rules

  • THE MOST Gay song in the WORLD is at the end

  • Don't cry, Mwu is still alive somehow

  • eng subs much beter

  • i tend to prefer subs over dubs . but sometimes the dubs are very well done . this scene is done well in both IMO .

i feel sorry for Romulus , never really knew that Bagersrule wasnt directly involved at the end .

and MU rules . a wise ass till the end :)

  • dude eng dub is more dramatic

  • jap is better, it has more feeling..

did you know that the blonde cosmos guy jap voice is the same guy that makes Links voice from legend of zelda, probably u do. just for the record.

  • um noo...

  • @SweetSinFZ plz dont be lazy..... google + nobuyuki hiyama + gundam seed voices or so... then... ummm yes.

  • i ment the feeling part :o

  • Most of the time I would say the Original Japanese, but in Gundam Seed I would have to say the dub is more dramatic.

  • i say eng dub is more dramatic because the japanese men always sound so weird

  • deffinatly jap with eng sub, i cant watch dubbed anymore after watching jap version. i can still sometimes watch german dub, but dubbed to english just makes it a complete joke i get sick of watching english dubbed anime.

  • agreed, jap is just the right audio for anime, and it's awesome!

Specialy when they special sub special attack's names

  • I can honestly say I prefer the English dubs for Gundam Wing. They did a nice job for picking english voice actors for that series.

I <3 Duo Maxwell. God of Death ftw!

But for Gundam SEED? Subs all the fucking way. The Dubs make my ears bleed, especially some of the pronunciation (Ath-Run!) (La-Cus) wtf?

  • i just prefer english dubs, but the japanneese version was a lil more dramatic, i personally think both have their moments, good and ok

  • there are only like 4 english dubbers for ALL the animes and they sound so contrived. I'd prefer jap w/o subs even though I'd have no clue what was going on half the time.

  • English dub sucks.

The only way to watch anime is with subtitles

  • +1000. English dub makes me cringe.

  • japanese, they put effort into it

  • I kinda think that both are okay but for the part where Murrue shouts the japanese dub is better and at the front part the english dub is much better

  • FYI it isnt called dubbing if the original work is japanese

  • In this shows case, it's like asking "Hollywood movie or your children's re-enactment of the Hollywood movie?"

I normally prefer whichever I hear first, because I get used to that as the normal voices, but most Dubs are horrible cast and horrible acted.

  • Sub, if only for the fact that it has Nobuyuki Hiyama.

  • the japanese dub

  • Well, in this one i have to admit the english dub is made of fail... :/

  • English dub, So weird, how in the Tv series of Destiny Mu is still alive, when you can see his helmet in space after his supposed death. But then they made the TV Moves and edit the helmet out.

  • the better 1 is whichever 1 i decided to watch, it may be because i couldn't find the other, or heck i can like both the dub and sub if iv seen them both. What I just hate are the fans of 1 who are fanatic about it and feel they need to go into vids of the other and complain like their complaints are gonna stop people from dubbing or subbing anime.

  • SUBS and thats all

  • ENG DUB ALL THE WAY

  • Well. Both version has their own ups and downs. The japanes seiyus are more skilled than the english voice actors. But this time I think they showed a bit too much emotions. Not to mention Mu's last words in english are priceless:)

  • one of my fav scenes of the anime.

  • lol cant really tell, the jap dubs for gundam seed isnt that good either but i say overall jap dub > eng sub lol.

  • Right! But it also depents on wether u seend it in dub or jap first like u said i definatly like seed in dub. but for others i cant stand dub like Naruto.

  • i think i comes down to the person and wht they like, some anime sound better in dub where others sound better in jap like bleach... ive heard both the dub and jap versions and i like the jap version better where as i like the dub version of gundam seed compared to the jap version

  • I would agree with that. My example would be Azumanga Daioh. While the jap version is excellent, I think the eng dub better showcases who the characters are to an English audience. One example would be Osaka. In order to show what they mean by she speaks in a different dialect, in the eng dub they give here a southern accent. But there are just as many animes that do bad eng dubs like that as their are good ones.

Also, sometimes, like DBZ, the music in the jap one sucks compared to the English.

  • The dub is rarely "Better". That doesn't mean the dub's always bad, though. Plus, when saying which someone should watch, you can't forget how distracting reading subs are. When I watched death note, I missed half of the coolest looking scenes just from reading the subs alone.

Final say: Raw version beats all IF you can understand Japanese. When choosing dub or sub, sample the dub to see if it's decent and go from there.

  • Prefer the Sub, heaps more emotion,

  • idk. i like both but with different animes and wat im feeling

  • i prefer jap. partly because i've listened to every eng dub anime out there and they really suck. and once i heard the jap, i found it a lot better.

also with the jap, i found that they have more emotion than the eng dubbers.

  • That's not Gundam Seed Destiny. It's Gundam Seed Mobile suit

  • original always wins since they speak the way its meant to be... way better

  • i still wonder how mwu servived without the helmet cause no air

  • if you see the special edition, they changed it

  • I think both are good when Mu says his last line. Though both have diff ways of saying it, both are sad in their own ways. Though I like Muruta's and Murrue's Japanese voices better - more dramatic, more emotional. :D As for Natarle, I like her Japanese voice more, but I like what she said in the dub. Her 'fire' was said at the same time as Murrue :D

  • "I told you I can make the impossible, POSSIBLE!" I like the dub better.

    "Mwu!!!" Sub wins, more emotion.

Natarle's "Fine, Murrie Ramius!" is better in the dub.

    Azrael's scream = Sub.

    IMO,

  • amen... ;)

  • I preffer eng dub.

  • She said MOOO!!!!

  • I tend to watch my anime with both English Dubs and English Subs on. It helps me follow along better, helps with any kind of double meaning or spots they may have had difficulty with the translations with, and hearing the dialog in my native language makes it feel more immerse to me.

That's not to say Japanese dialog is bad or that I even dislike it, I often times enjoy hearing the difference once I'm familiar with what's going on just to get a feel for another interpretation of the characters.

  • Seems to me the dubbers slack off and use less dramatic lines....i mean "HAH! didnt i tell you i could make the impossible possible" in that tone VS "I knew i could make the impossible possible"

in a reserved and calm state Imo fits oh so much better

and they need better voice talent in dubs -.- part of me dies inside everytime i watch one

  • I think many VAs would take offense to that. I much prefer the NA version of Mu's death. Ironically, much more dramatic than the JP.

I don't think they need better voice talent, I think they need more of it. It is a fact that there is a smaller pool that is utilized when it comes to NA voice talent compared to JP. So NA hears alot of the same VAs over and over all the time.

Really, I think many are just hating on NA dubs because it's cool to be on the bandwagon.

  • its not like im hating on VAs or anything I used to watch Dubs and stuff alot until i started watching subbed episodes after a while the voices just didnt seem to fit and because of how the mouths on the characters move alot of times they just completely change the line

  • "Seems to me the dubbers slack off and use less dramatic lines"

"and they need better voice talent in dubs -.- part of me dies inside everytime i watch one"

How is that not hating on NA dubs? I will agree, the mouths can be off frequently, which is obviously because it was drawn with JP dialog in mind. Completely changing the line isn't necessarily a big issue as long as they express the same thought as was intended in the JP, which only becomes a problem in comedies with plays on words.

  • im just expressing my opiion if i was trying to hate on them id be flaming screaming obscenities and stuff lol

    Just sharing what i think

  • the english is more dramatic because i don't know whats coming, but the jap dub would definately be better

  • the english dub is just BAD

  • Gundam 00 would like to have a word with you.

  • I guess this is a bad example. I prefer the dubs in seed compared to the original.

However, if you look at the dubs for Gundam 00 then you will really prefer the subs

  • well i watched gundam 00 season 1 in english and then i tried watching with subs and i was like "what is going on?"

for me the english dub is kind of complicated because they say to much tactic stuff so its even worse in jappanese if you dont know what the heck they are saying in english.

by the way i prefer Mu's line in english, it just sounds better and more dramatic

and u r right this is a bad example

  • i perfer eng dub but i think eng sub is more dramatic

  • subs sound more dramatic

  • meh.. i prefer english but they both sound pretty dramatic to me i guess lol

  • personally i can watch both of them just fine without grimacing at either unlike a lot of people, yes sometimes dubs are more dramatic, and sometimes the sub is, it just really depends on the anime

  • I like the english sub better because they leave more in and let the actors use more feelings when they talk.

  • Agreed. Plus they have double meanings which the Eng can't replicate. Plus it's the best tool to learn Japanese. I don't needs subs anymore unless it gets too complicated.

  • i would say subs cos they are made in a way such that it goes well with the show?? X)

  • I think the Dub was better, the synchronized "fire" was awesome, and Mwu la Flaga sounded way better too

  • yea, in this instance, the eng subs is better. The Japanese VAs put more heart into this one. The English voice actors need to tighten their game.

  • eng sub rofl

  • >.> the dubs make me laugh...thats sad

  • Er i see only slight difference in this episode... There isn't much language difference here either...

I don't think i can say which is better as far as emotionalism goes... I would say they're tied. Some people may say english is better in this case because they're not used to japanese language...

  • these dubbs were aprticularly bad ,

  • Suptitles!

  • english subs are always better.

  • English sub, english sub beats dub anyday.

Japanese voice acters put way more heart into their voice acting than the American voice acters. It sounds so much more natural and it fits.

  • actually, everyone says that americans dubb the voices, they're actually canadian :/

only a handful I know that are actually american and they're actually good voice/real life actors

  • I know Johnny Young is a great voice actor!

  • Yup, I think in this scene the sub is better. Japanese voices seem to be able to scream better than the dubbed ones and it sounds more... natural

  • In this case the dub is better, but that's not the same all the time.

  • dub dub dub dub dub ! for one good reason...when i was watching azumanga daioh in subs it wasen't funny at all.. but in dub it was!

  • Really? I thought Azumanga Daioh was pretty good with subs.

  • in this case english was more drimatick in my oppion, but look the jap had no cencerisom unlike the dubed anime (and im talking in all anime, not just this one)

  • meh gundom why not use spikes death or wolfwoods death as english or english subtitles...as for this...its all good or rather its all dramatic

  • In this case I have to say that I prefer the Japanese voices. The English ones just don't fit the characters... Though usually I prefer dubbs, it bugs me when you have to keep reading through the fighting scenes...

  • It totally depends on the quality of voice actors used. shitty voice actors/bad casting can ruin any scene. If you find an anime with excellent voices in both languages, then you can compare... then again American women don't elect to be tortured to produce realistic crying sounds...

    jk, jk

    Mwu is fucking awesome.

  • actually, there was another epp (tried looking for it, gave up after searching for a while) in which Kira starts crying randomly, then Lacus shows up, and he kinda stops real fast. yeah the jap voice actor /sucked/ at crying lol

  • subbed is better in any anime, dubbed is a cheap knock off, end of story

  • yep! the one with subtitles is better... it gives more feeling and ambience in the mood... especially the screaming of miss murrue... lols

  • They make her sound better but make mwu sound worse, I like mwu's dubbed line better, because it fits his personality.

Also, HOW THE HELL DID HE SURVIVE THAT TO BECOME (Gundam Seed Destiny spoiler ahead, stop reading if you havent met the new raul le cruset) Neo Roanoak.

  • Well I think that the Sub was more dramatic in this instint. It really depends on the choice of words.

  • The japanese seems more dramatic becuase their sentences sound shorter and I can't understand them. I still prefer the english dub becuase when i can here and understand it has more meaning.

  • japanese is more dramatic than english dub beacuse japanese is the original voice of the show and you can also feel the true essence ok!

  • Comment removed

  • Generally, I find that the dubbed versions of animes are... well, awful. But for Gundam Seed, the dubbing was exceptionally well done... I would say even better than the original. This scene never fails to make me cry... T^T

  • Comment removed

  • For seed I really think the english dub was just awesome!

  • In this case I would have to say the Japanese version is more dramatic.

  • Normally I would go with dub for Seed but with this scene I would go for the sub. Just listen to Captain Ramius's scream it so much more bloodcurdling in Japanese it feels so much more emotional it's also the case with Natarle screaming for Murrue to shoot her as well. Although I do agree that Azrael's voice is very annoying in Japanese but this scene still always brings a tear to my eye every time and is my favorite scene in any anime that I have seen so far.

  • muruta's jap voice ruined it 'nuff said

  • I think it depends on what you see first. I saw this series in DUB first so I prefer it.

  • I duno

  • ok english dub is way better

  • Thing is the dub for seed sucked like hell. IT was annoying. thing is anime isn't dubed properly and japanese voice actors rule over dub annyday. The emotonal charge of this scene in japanese isn't found in the dub.

    Sorry guys dub sucked.

  • NiWONGO rocks

  • The answer is obvious, The dub was better. I'd like to see a comparision between the Death note subs and dubs though, If you can.

Also I think that Gundam Seed was one of the greatest Dubs for an anime.

  • Dub was superior. The japanese voice actor for Azriel just screamed senselessly AND the voices barely fit the appearances of the characters.

Another good example is Negi in the anime Negima, you should have that as an example too.

  • I don't know for this particular scenario, I like the dub better while in other cases the subs are good. It is a hard choice but I would go with dubs

  • Eng sub all the way.

  • japa voice overs are better

  • i think that this show had one of the better dubs. sometimes a dub doesn't have as much emotion as the original jappanese, but this one was all right.

  • English dub always sounds like crap.

  • XC1130

not always. The Gundam SEED dubs were actually some of the better dubs out there. It is a hit and miss kind of thing for dubs. But i would say that SEED definately felt like it had more emotion when dubbed compared to subbed.

  • voice actors sound horrible, didn't fit.

  • Some did fit :/

  • It really depends on the anime. Sometimes the English dubs are good, and sometimes they suck. I really liked the English dub in this one.

  • It all depends on the anime, and the specific scene, etc. In this case I liek the English dub better.

  • It depends on the quality of the translation.

  • Personally I always find myself liking the subbed version better.

  • to all the people that say subbed is better in every anime your wrong, neither is really better (except the really bad ones...zoidz,yugioh,pokemon ect...)each version has its good points and bad, when Mwu was talking in this clip it was much more dramatic in the english dub version, but when Marru (captain, yeh i dont remeber spelling) screams his name its much better in japanese...so each have there good points and there bad ones.

  • In japanese it's so much better, i hate in english

  • it depends on how good the voices are in dubbed but I'd have to say subs are better the original voices all the way

  • you do realise you used my favourite scene from Gundam seed, well ENGLISH SUBS ALL THE WAY, but Gundam seed dub was good (except for flaiy's voice)

as for death note WARNING CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE

the dub for death note is fucking shit, i hate it, not only do all voices not match (rem/ryuk) were ok but all the rest was complete shit, the transtaltion was completely wrong in so many places! i will never buy death note in english, but only if it has the option of japanese language plus subs

  • *translation, and i oppologise if my language offended people

  • i actually cant stand dubbed versions of some animes but death note isnt one of em I say subbed for most shows but my only exception is dubbed for death note

  • For people new to anime, dubbed is fine, but I personally prefer subed. Actually, there are a couple of dubs that I think are okay (FMA and Cowboy Bebop), but thanks to animes like Death Note, I've lost all hope in American anime.

  • I am a complete anime freak and i like dubs much better in the sub version when he was yelling just before the strike was destroyed it sounded like h was saying to sombody not shouting with emotion sub is crap

  • ENGLISH SUBBED RULES!!!

    (eng dub is scary!)

  • gundam seed is a more dramatic show, same with destiny

  • subbed is allways better

  • always better with the original, always.

  • NEVER EVER watch DUBS! Unless it is done for COMEDIC purposes like Kung Pow. OTHERWISE ALWAYS sub. THE AMERICAN accents MAKE EVERYTHING 10 times cheesier. NOT that a British or ANY OTHER accents would be any BETTER.

  • I thought Full Metal Panic Fummofu was done pretty good in the dub

  • ACTUALLY yeah i agree, the dubbing wasnt bad in THAT, though I still PREFERRED subs.

  • I f@#king agree, some voices in some dubbed series sounds great, but the original audio is allways the best in anime.

  • true sad but true

  • english spoken is better

  • Upon reflection I do not feel that either is more dramatic than the other, however there are notable differences. In the Japanese the VA's are generally a bit more screechy which is something I personally do not like but I do not think this detracts from the scene.

  • the japanese voice acts better than english i think.

  • sub is crap every time they say a name they add -san is actually translates to "my friend" first of all you don't use -san in english so it shouldn't be their and when was the last time you added my friend when your talking to some one. When muu says "i knew i could make the imposable possible" that doesn't sound right when he keeps saying "i can make the imposable possible" in earlier episodes. Sub is crap dub = pro

  • tch, subbed without a doubt. I can't stand the dubbed versions of anime. 99/100 times... it fails on every level, at least in my opinion.

  • usually i prefer sub but gundam dub is frickin AMAZING (god that episode is pretty horrific in both languages)

  • wow dubs win this round for sure, the actors in english were more passionate than the japanese for once. Let it not be said that subs are always better.

  • Lol, subtitles on that vid sucked. She didn't even say "san" at the end. Dub wins this round because fansubbers are idiots!

  • It depends on so many factors, skill of the vocal actor, and the situation for instance in Karin english dubbed is better because the japanese use just one accent, and a Jamacan character with a Japanese accent just isn't believable.

  • I like eng dub because I get more of a feeling to it when it's english. Than again I just don't really care much for subtitles.

  • i liekd them both really... they both gave good emotion and all but i personally believe anime is made to be subbed in english.... but dbz is made to be english!

  • english sub is the bestin the world azrile is pretty cute too^_*

  • Sub is always the best!!!

  • if you compared the voice acting in the last episode then i think the subs would win out. however in this case both were acceptable. god i hate rau's english voice...

  • wad song is tis

  • Subtitles by just a hair and a half.

  • in gundam only mobile suit gundam wing and gundam seed had better dubbing than the subbing in my opinion,in g gundam/gundam x or whatever you want to call it the voice actors had no emotion put into their characters just alot of emotionless rants,in wing and seed however the actors were trying to take on the role of who they were voicing and worked hard, the subs had too many mistakes such as spelling, using the wrong word or even translating words that weren't supposed to be translated imo

  • You're kidding right? Gundam Wing and Seed dubwork pail to the rest of Gundam Dubing I think. I liked, 0083, 0080, 08th MS Team, MSG, Zeta, and all those dubed versions far more than Seed or Wing.

  • with seed and wing the voice actors actually got into character in the other gundams the voices were kinda bored aand the lines came out way too fast ruining the whole episode, personally it all depends on the anime, vhow much the voice actors tried and how mugh emotion used in the voices that matters no matter how good an anime is if the people playing the voices aren't into their parts then the anime comes out flat and boring

  • Yes, it really just boils down to the quality of the voice acting. However, if the quality is similar, I'll vote for english dubbed because in having english as my primary and only language I can better pick up on the emotion behind minute inflection which can make a big difference.
