  • ooooh, I gotta bit trouble Betty !!!

Hey that trumpet player @ 2:38 was on a bit of fucking mission....

  • @mrbillhicks Doc Severinson I believe...

  • Most of his long time followers know all about that detail of his personal life. Although one part of that is incorrect, most of us will know which part. So who cares, it takes nothing away from his incredible talent. Who in this world is perfect. how petty. But this is only a troll after all, what else can we expect?!!

  • I appreciate good writing and I was so impressed with Parcel. I laughed out loud and I cried - I'm not sure I've ever done that while reading. I recall him saying that he wrote the book as a cathartic experience - understandable given his childhood traumas. To me, he's still that boy in many ways, which might explain why he's so emotional in his performances. As to his concerts, I read that he would make a beeline for home afterwards instead of going to the stage door because he was so drained.

  • @bookworm7087 Certain parts of his life are not included, there is no mention of the daughter, from a relationship prior to marriage, who went to the press to tell the her story. It made the front page of The Mirror in 1988ish.He went on to a chat show to discuss the book and looked agitated, maybe he dreaded the subject being brought up as this was at the height of his success with Phantom. As the two older girls were six months apart it was a bit awkward.

  • Isn't that amazing that he just fell into that other career? As he's said before, many things in his career have just "happened" - he never planned for them. Much as I adore him, you can only gauge charisma by seeing someone in person and every fan review I've read has mentioned that Michael has it in spades. What a complete experience one of his concerts must be. He doesn't just get up there, sing and that's it - he's an amazing. He's also one heck of a writer - have you read his book?

  • @bookworm7087 Yes, I've read his book and have owned it for many years. He's such a good writer, and he says he loves writing too. Wish he'd write another one, he has so much more to tell. His concerts are definitely a complete experience. When it's over, one is left wanting it to go on much longer, and it could but I guess he would need a rest, lol.

  • However, he has standards - as he should. I wouldn't want him to just do "anything". I hope that there are things out there that appeal to Michael and offer what he's looking for. The good thing is I don't think he needs to be THE star attraction. I suspect a good role, even if it's not a huge part, would be fine for him. To clarify the previous post, I've never heard him sing live- but how fantastic it would be if he went on tour again.

  • @bookworm7087 Most of his concerts were sold out shortly after they were announced. With good reason. He's such a charismatic person, and his performances, were out of this world. Complete with his talent for storytelling, it was a tour de force every time. I've been to a few of his concerts and would love to do so again.

  • He said he was going to take lessons again, so I really hope he follows through. Unless something goes wrong, I expect he will - it wasn't like he waffled on returning to performing; he clearly still loves it. I would LOVE to hear him sing again, but as it would take awhile to get his voice back, I'd be thrilled to see him in a play in the meantime - give him something to sink his teeth into. He has so many fans who want to see him do something, anything.

  • So far he is still thinking of doing something after WoZ, be it a play or something else. I hope he keeps that thought as he was so content to stay in his New Zealand home. I know he says he needs to bring his voice back up to his standards, maybe he could do his sought after concerts again. I can only wish. So many would go to see him again.

  • Oh, I would KILL to see more Frank. I think it could work because Frank could get away with being a dotty old man. Of course it wouldn't air in the US - SMDAE never aired on public television here which I think is a shame. All most Americans know Michael for is Phantom. In any case, I think he should do a one man show - he'd be phenomenal at it as he can do anything and he's great with an audience. He could always sort of do a skit centering around Frank. Michael sings this song beautifully.

  • Yes, he did say recently in an interview that he would be open to doing some more of Frank Spencer. Probably as an accident prone grandfather now, I'd say. He sure has a huge ready made audience who would love to see that.

  • Is there anything Michael Crawford can't do? Still love Some Mothers Do Ave Em apparently he'd love to make more

  • This is an awesome song. Goosebumps for me too. Performances like this are special!

  • Can you please post up the Music of the Night? My dad said that he saw him perform it. I saw it on Youtube, but someone took it down I think. ):

  • Hhhhhmmmm Betty !!!!!!!!!

  • Michael's voice was a gift from God, but like so many gifts, Michael had to do the "footwork" and had to take it from there with literally years of hard work on his voice.

Singing this smoothly and beautifully didn't come easy to him; he just made it sound that way!

  • Uh, anybody know what key this is in? Thanks!

  • Not a huge Webber fan,Not huge Crawford fan, but this is a perfect rendition of one of my fav songs.Beautifully delivered! Thanks for posting!

  • I cry or at least am choked up within the first 20 sec of this song whenever he is singing this.. So Amazing!

  • I've heard this song dozens of times, done by dozens of different singers, but Michael is the only one who can bring me to tears, every single time. <3

  • I can't help but shed a tear EVERY time I hear this amazing song by this amazing voice. So beautiful, and heartfelt. The world was blessed when Michael Crawford started singing.

  • One can but sigh. Amazingly beautiful.

  • That voice is a gift to us from God...

  • pure magic

  • How about the range of capability on this guy? This is the same person who does this, is also the phantom of the opera AND is "frank" on the seminal brit comedy "Some mothers do 'ave 'em"..!!

  • 21 yrs ago....As great today as it was then and will be as great 21 yrs from now....Love it....really touches the heart..............

  • He is glorious. One of a kind.

  • Odd to hear him sing a female song... but he pulls it off!! Way to go Micheal

  • 35yrs in a Marriage I thought was perfect, and just like that it was over :(

  • I <3 MC if I could travel back in time I would go back to watch Michael perform as the Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera! Hurry Up Science!

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (That was a good AHHHH)

  • The musical was played under two different names over the years, Tell Me on a Sunday and Song and Dance. More often, the former.

  • I love this man. x

  • I was blessed to see Michael Crawford in concert at the world's largest casino. He is a deeply religious man, and (amazingly) lifted each member of the audience as few men can. God be with you, Michael, and thank you for enriching the human well of fantastic, inspiring achievement.

  • ok every person who thinks gerry is a better singer than michael needs to watch this video

  • @ItalianGirl903 i think it all depends on preference, gerrard has a rougher manlier less professional voice and i just find that more awesome

  • I've been a Crawford fan since his first (non-singing) role in "The Knack" (1965). I'm not a fan of Lloyd-Webber, but this, his shortest work, may also be his best. It is a lovely song.

  • I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOUR VOICE

  • funny, my grandmother introduced me to michael crawford when i was 11 years old and ever since i've been a fan of his work and of anything Anrew Llyod Webber.

  • This song makes me cry! The is THE Breakup song.

  • michael's voice is one of the greatest in history; the first time was hearing the "Music of the Night" duet with Barbra Streisand; then the rest is history; esecially having the opportunity of watching in Australia back in '98....

  • michael's voice is one of the greatest in history; the first time was hearing the "Music of the Night" duet with Barbra Streisand; then the rest is history; esecially having the opportunity of watching in Australia bacj in '98....

  • WOW goosebump city.

  • I literally started crying without even realizing it lol He has one of the most beautiful voices in the world

  • Can someone please repost up Music of the Night ?

  • Beautiful :)

  • The most beautiful version. Unbelievable that a male singer can sing with so much emotion.

  • I keep coming back to this. Michael sings this so beautifully. A superb actor/singer, and the best and only Phantom.

  • Beautifully sung AND acted! I love what he did with "take the hurt out of all the pain," he really turned it into a gorgeously heartbreaking moment. What a great performance, easily my favorite interpretation of this piece.

  • @cooney1233 Yes, I agree totally with every word of your brief critique - and specifically the impact when he sings that phrase.

Incidentally, I was very surprised , way back when he was chosen to be the Phantom - I was very fortunate to see him with Sarah Brightman in the London production

  • Michael lives the song as he sings it, just as he lived the role of the phantom when on stage. He puts his whole soul into whatever he does. The passion is so obvious in this. This is why he made the phantom his own; He really WAS the phantom. The voice is just so beautiful and no one can ever come close.

  • So many of his songs are about lost love. After reading his bio, the loss of the dearest women in his life, first his grandmother, then mother, last his wife (he admits it was his fault) may explain it. His successive relationships seem to short-lived, too bad he can't find somebody to grow old with. I'm available LOL

  • Whatever happened to Michael's performance of Music of the Night?! i would love to see that. My dad saw this on TV along time ago and I would love to view Michael singing MOTN.

  • i even think he sings this better than bernadette does....he's just got so much raw passion.

  • What a great go to song when you're in the mood for a good cry! Or remembering how your first love broke up with you.

  • im overwhelmed..only if i could hire u to sing for me ..EVERYDAY

  • I am crying as I watch this, his voice is so..gahh, I don't have a word for it. I could hear him ALLday and all night.

  • Wow...that has to be the first time I have seen Michael Crawford singing *without* a mask on or having the audio taken off!!

Thank you, wonderful stuff... nay, fabulous lol!

  • Found it!XD Hehe.I'm singing this song at my voice lessons, but Michael can definately sing this better than I can.I can sing it as good as Sarah can, though.XD Thats the freaky part of it all.But Michael sings this beautifully.=3

  • I am singing this for voice lessons too. I really wanted to watch Michael because I need help with acting, so I really needed to see the way he moves to the song. His acting is just so perfect.

  • I know right?=D

  • Gorgeous. Does anyone know of a piano vocal arrangement of this version/in this key?

  • such emotion. i love you michael!!

  • Michael Crawfords version is better then Sarahs and the best in general! Great job Michael. You make me cry everytime!!!

  • What a nice surprise! This performance is very good, almost as good as Sarah's, but on this I find the orchestra very intrusive. In August 1984 the BBC transmitted a film of the London production with Sarah B. & Wayne Sleep. I taped it on to VHS but after many years' enjoyment lost it. Did anybody else tape it? Please get in touch if you did.

  • love

  • I love him, as always

  • WOW this is magical.. He is so good! I didn't know he could sing like this. Better than Denise and Marti in my opinion.

  • @rosieposy8 this version by michael, makes you think that the musical tell me on a sunday, should not just be a one woman show, maybe it should also be a one man show, so the next time a production of the show comes along, it could be with a man or woman.

this is just magical, i really want to see him in the wizard of oz.

    :)

  • I haven't heard him do anything I didn't like. I get this odd ache in my heart when I listen to him.....what do you think that is?

  • @4evrmc love or you just like his voice or you just like him....

  • Unbelievable performance Michael. My parents and sister used to play this song constantly when I was a little kid, and I never thought anything of it. Now I'm obsessed with it. Go figure!

  • Obsessed because of Michael- who wouldn't be after hearing his angelic dulcet voice!

  • I find that happens to me all the time! Funny thing is I eagerly tell my mom about this "new" beautiful song I downloaded on iTunes, and she responds of course I know that song, I used to sing it to you as a baby.

  • Michaels so adorable and hot as well. He can really melt a girls heart! Thank you for posting this "darcimkire07"! God Bless.

  • I listen to this song all the time on my iPod, so I thought I should look and see if YouTube has a live video of Michael singing it and wow!! I have goosebumps all over. He puts so much emotion in this song. I get mesmerized every time I watch him. Thanks for posting, darcimkire07!

  • Your welcome! :D

  • Yes! It may possibly be the funniest clip of actual stunt action you will ever see. Check Michael Crawford skating! The original TV show was "Some mothers do 'ave em!"

  • Check out michael crawford skating!

  • where is there a thing of him skating?

  • Sorry "Balin93"...like "phanatic100" said MICHAEL RULES!!! Best version I've ever heard and I've heard a lot. Michael brings tears to my eyes. Bravo Kid!

  • Colin-- you rock!! But Michael will rock infintiely!

  • Michael, you rule

  • Where is his Music of The Night? I'd love to see it again.

  • This brings tears to my eyes

  • This has not been transposed higher for Michael and other people have sung it higher then this "arev1239". By the way what did you think of Michaels very moving performance?

  • This sounds transposed higher for him; does anyone know the original key of this song?

  • I can't listen to a lot of his songs cause they remind me to much of loves past. Witch kinda sucks cause those songs are my favs but they bring up emotion I don't want to feel anymore to much pain.

  • Michaels also an excellent singer "veracruzanota". I can't believe you felt nothing for Michael or his performance of this song! Why do you dislike this guy so much. Michaels talent moves me to tears! Bravo Mike!!!

  • God, 'colin'...did you read the comment? "Excellent song...I keep crying, it reminds me my divorce...." that is a COMPLIMENT!!!

  • It seems 'colin' can take offence to everything, even compliments. I don't know why he or she is here, if they can't deal with even the best compliments for their favourite singers.

  • yeah, i know...trust me, i know...oh well.

  • Excellent song...I keep crying,it reminds me my divorce....

  • 2:48 and on is sooooo amazing! Love him to death!

  • Mike will never stop kicking arse!!

I should send some Mike songs to some of my facebook girls as a way to melt their hearts!

  • He was not lipsynching TearsForFearsFan. There are several reasons and facts why I know this: It's a slightly different vocal then on his CD, the background music is totally different, he has sung this song numerous times live with know problems or lipsynching and some of my friends were there and saw him do this live and talked with some of the stage crew. Some of the videos are slightly out of synch on YouTube so don't let that fool you. Maybe thats why you had that thought.

  • Wow.. That last bit was... Powerful. *sniffle*

  • Er.. Colin, I don't mean to be rude or anything, that's not my intention.. However, your defending of Mr Crawford is brazen to the point of being.. Obssessive, perhaps? Anyhoo.. Like I said before in my comment, Michael is amazing, I love this rendition, but maybe you could tone it down a wee bit.. Just a suggestion.

  • It's Mike, Mikey, Marvelous Mike, Majestic Mike, Mystic Michael, Magic Mike!

Colin is the true devoted fan to Michael--colin-let no one tell you different!

  • Fantastic, just fantastic. Sarah Brightman sang this on stage and her version was excellent too.

  • Cont'd....Bravo Michael. You brought me to tears and you are gorgeous!

  • Wow, calm yourself, he didnt diss him or anything. Take a chill

  • this song sends shivers up my spine. wish anthony warlow would sing it as i think he would be wonderful.

  • Uuuuuuuuuuuuhhm... I've got a bit of trouble Betty

  • beautiful

  • the voice, he is so good, I could listen to him sing for ever

  • Me too!! Michel is like caffeine--addicting!

  • You are so right, I first heard him when he sang music of the night, now he's really popular, I think he's really lovely. But have you heard him sing "unexpected song" that comes in some where between Wow and Zing. He's fantastic.

  • "Unexpected Song" is one of my absolutle faves. It's on Mike's Favorite Love Songs CD! I never get tired of listening to his tunes.

  • I echo every comment so far.

What a gorgeous peice, but isn't Michael always gorgeous!! Redudant, but so true!!

  • Actually "adrianphantom" and "wiccansillusion" I have to disagree in a friendly way and say I love how Michael performs this song. He sings it with passion, a wonderful voice and heartbreaking emotion. I respect your opinions to but I wonder why people watch stuff they don't like. I'm also wondering what songs "wiccansillusion" likes by Michael since she called him an amazing singer but has never posted anything nice about him on his other video sites. Not asking in an angry way. God Bless.

  • Beautiful, melting voice.

  • Lilting, silking!!

  • i looooooooooov this song :) its so calm and nice :D

  • Not his best song. Amazing singer, but it was written for Sarah's voice.

  • Actually it was written for Marti Webb, though I've heard it was offered first to Elaine Paige. Sarah had not met Lloyd Webber until several years after this song was written.

  • he alway's gives me goosebumps every time he hit's the high notes. he's amazing.

  • yah, me too!!! that's why i love him

  • This beautiful song is also on Michaels "Michael Crawford Performs Andrew Lloydd" CD and nobody does this as well as MC. I love his voice, emotion and passion on this song. I got to see Mike sing this in concert back in the early 90s and everybody had a tear in there eye by the time it ended! The version on his ALW CD is even better. You can get the CD at most major stores that sell CDs and on Amazon.

  • Beautiful song by a terrific singer! Thanks.

  • I have just descovered this song and LOVE it!

  • Beautiful, just beautiful. I absolutley LOVED when it stepped up and it got really emotional and powerful, thats the Michael I know and love! lol

Where is this song from (not the video), I've never heard it before now.

  • the song is from ALW's musical "Song and Dance"

  • yes, i agree, when he stepped up... i love it when he sings the high notes, every time he sings the high notes. it's like your heart's leaping up, you get carried away...

  • EXACTLY! thats the best way to put it! :D

  • Always expect the unexpected!!

  • @PhantomPhan213 the song is from ALW's musical "Song & Dance"
