I attended elementary school in Warren, Michigan (a suburb of Detroit) in the 1960's. The principal kept a wooden paddle that he used on problem students. One day, a couple of misbehaving boys were sent to the principal's office. When they got back, you could tell from the looks on their faces that they had gotten "educated," and they were fine after that. I would not be surprised if they got another whipping when they got home.
When i was pri 4, i was canned along with my accomplice for skipping 1 period to play "catching" haha. But i guess it was very prevalent in the 90s, kids these days are too protected that the schools don't dare to administer corporal punishment anymore.
