This collage is very misleading. The projectile fired by the artillery piece was only about 1 kiloton. The damage shown was from tests of weapons yielding around 20 kilotons. running them together gives the impression that the "aftermath" is the result of the Arty-fired weapon. It's not. Arty.-fired wpns were for tactical use by outnumbered NATO troops against Russian tank formations in crowded Europe. They HAD to be low-yield.

However, the yield of so-called "Artillery-Fired Atomic Projectiles (AFAPs), had VERY low yields. For example, the W-79 had a variable yield which could be set at anything between 100 tons of TNT equivalent to 1.1 Kt of TNT equivalent.

This is the M65 cannon that fired a 280mm nuclear shell that detonated with a yield of around 15kt. You should really delete your comment at the top. While you do make some good points about most nuclear artillery being small in yield, your information about this video is totally false. I suggest researching the M65.

@philritter21 OK, let's be clear. I agree that the W-79 and W-79ER were not developed until the '80s. So, I stand corrected on that point. As to the weapon actually shown being launched from the so-called "atomic cannon,: that was the W-19 AFAP, which yielded 15 to 20 Kt. While the yield of this weapon was not as low as that of the W-79, it was certainly very low by the standards of the megaton-range strategic weapons of its day.

Nothing rare about it. This clip came from a DVD called "the atomic bomb movie" I have this DVD.... Cool, but not rare.... Yeah, nukes are pointless. We ALL lose if used in an all out exchange.
