  • My brother's name is James... Coincidence?

  • @vhluc

Amen...James, Going Down to Liverpool, and Hero Takes a Fall were all such good stuff before that MTV crap and the idea of making "cool" videos instead of writing good music.

  • @Sommelier97 yeah, video really did kill the radio star

  • This album and their EP are --- in my opinion --- their best stuff. Different Light was good, but a bit too ... much. In Your Room was not by cup of tea.

  • i know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but how can eternal flame be anyones favorite song by the bangles. its so damn trite. the all over the place stuff was them at their best, before they sold out.

  • I understand you saying the Bangles have done better songs than Eternal Flame. I much prefer James, Hero Takes A Fall, Hows The Air Up There& t heir version of September Gurls. At the same time I can't agree that the Bangles ever did a bad or rite song.

  • @fundies2 For me, it is the sound of Hoff's voice. In Eternal Flame, her voice sounds almost like an angel's. Plus, it relaxes me.

  • @fundies2 How can eternal flame be someone's favorite? Yeah everyone is entitle to their own opinion and that is what your opinion is, "yours". when people in 6 nations place a song as number one, and then you do not get it, trust me it is you not the other 6 nations of people.

Hoffs was a woman when she sang Eternal Flame. She had matured and had developed her voice to what I would consider to be better and more rich.

What does "sold out" even mean to you? She finally got paid?

  • @Codeeist just because a song is number 1 doesnt necessarily mean it is good, it can mean it is simply commercial. commercial does not always equate good. obviously u prefer a more commercial sound over a more edgy sound while i prefer the opposite. u have a right to your opinion as i do mine. as for hoffs voice, i actually found it to sound more mature on her earlier recordings than on the everything album where i found it to be very girly. again that is just my opinion.

  • @fundies2

So now sounding "old" is better than "youthful"? Wow, I even I have not judged voice so superficially. I guess I would think that youthful wins. But I guess you like "mature". Do you like children? Or do you think they are stupid and worthless and should shut up and not sing?

  • @Codeeist your starting to not make sense. guess i should expect that from someone who thinks a song with the line, "say my name, sunshine through the rain" is great. again, commercial does not always mean great. i cant expect someone like u to remotely understand what i, and many others here are talking about.

  • @fundies2

You are the one that said you don;t get other peoples opinion. I am just pointing out that virtually none understand yours. 6 nations liked the song and you post on line that you don;t understand why it is a good song. Oh well. Continue to not get it.

  • @Codeeist

I think Eternal Flame was a lot of folks favorite because that was when they started to listen to The Bangles. They remember the cheesy "Walk Like an Egyptian" video and then a while later Eternal Flame has this doe eyed Susanna Hoffs in it, it's a slow ballad, and people are like "This is my favorite Bangles song"... I remember this album and people weren't all that familiar with The Bangles. They were writing good music and lyrics. Then MTV ruined them.

  • Or eternal flame is their favorite and 5 other nations because it was a bad ass song.

  • @Codeeist selling out = finally getting paid? LOL

  • @fundies2

Preach on...All Over the Place had some good stuff. They wrote good music on this album instead of later on where they were more concerned about making "cool videos"

  • @Sommelier97 u said it. it seemed like their image and creating pop "gems" became a priority with their later stuff.

  • @fundies2 happens to the best. In the words of Rush, "Glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity."

  • @fundies2 so true , but i love eternal flame too !!!

  • When I first heard Eternal Flame I thought I was gonna barf. This was from their best period, before they got all schlocky :)

  • Thanks for uploading ... brings back memories of college, walking to class with the "All Over The Place" cassette playing on my Walkman!

  • high school for me, but, otherwise, same sentiments, jerryg1964 (that and EAT TO THE BEAT lived on my walkman in '85).

  • Another classic! I have most of it on my iPod with Die Young Stay Pretty in heavy rotation.

  • This is my favorite song of theirs!

  • I only just got the CD. Good song, but my favorite is Eternal Flame, hands down.

  • cool

  • Thanks for uploading this. Great song and great album. (Susanna and Michael are the prettiest rock star of all time!!).
