shocking... one of them is a guy, still funny that this does not use gender restriction, i went once to an anime convention dressed as Jinzo and i'm a girl, the plate, shoulder-plates and breastplate were all on my head (that was to look taller) and the robe covered all my body, two friends of mine went as final fantasy mogs (biggest mogs ever), and two girl cosplayers with the boyfriend of one of them were surprised to hear a female voice coming from such an imposing cyborg cosplay, funny stuff
thats all becuz the magic when u use a kigu...ppl love u even withouth knowin if ur a guy or girl when usin kigus...so why u would take this "magic" feeling showin ur face? xD
The Kigurumis are not common transvestites. I never "kigged", but it supposedly gives you the unique experience of incorporating the character you perform. I would have nothing against performing a standard fem kig, but to be original, I would like someday to perform a male character. I wonder how it would fly in a convention. Maybe it would start a new trend. 2/3 of "kiggers" being male and nobody's in for playing a boyfriend of one of those cuties?
Plus Kigurumi is descended from the fact that women weren't allowed to perform on stage for hundreds of years, men had to play their roles, that custom only changed in the last few decades, which is why women have only recently started getting into Kigurumi and Cosplay in general.
@DiamondGina Kigurumi is literally a fullsuit dressup. In other words, everything that masks you completely would classify under "kigurumi" in Japanese. (Think about those fursuits, for example)
In the US and Europe Kigurumi only has the connotation of these anime-copying masks like in this video. I hope that was helpful :-)
They don't talk, because when you hear a deep voice saying "Hi, my name is Rick" coming out of a very femenine garment, it kind of takes the magic away. LOL XD
@coreliandude76 The reason why they don't talk is that masked theater in japan was mute and first kigurumis were mimes, and as mimes they didn't talk. The rule is certainly enforced by the fact that many of them are male, but female "kiggers" also never use their voice while performing in public. Furthermore the voice of the performer, even a woman usually would not fit to the character portrayed and talking through a mask would sound like talking into a bucket.
What I understood of it, is that women as well as men can do this, because it is merely meant as a form of entertainment for kids and whatnot. One of the guys said that he started doing it because he was obsessed with a female character when he was little. Also, they replied that they always use female characters because as well as human characters & animal (ish) characters are way cuter when they're female XD If someone speaks better Japanese than I do, pls correct me if I said something wrong.
@leftpassenger When they asked the one guy "Even though you're men/a man, why do you dress as a girl?" he replied with:
"Kids are more apt to approach a woman."
The woman chimed in with, "Girls are better than boys, and animals are better than girls." in regards to the children approaching kigurumi cosplay people.
@rallygsc apparently you're oblivious...yes...some girls do it too...but there is quite a chunk of men out there..in japan also..who do the cross dressing...which is pathetic..
Technically this is not very tasteful, one should never talk while inside a suit, and certainly when doing this, it was meant never to reveal what your real gender is.
me dan miedo XD

Kigurumi is not uncommon in Japan, but in America too many fans are using it for a cross gender experience which is really scary
