  • This is awesome...love the album even more now!!!

  • Mind forever blown.

  • any chance you can upload a video of the "horns and choir" sample? with just the horns and the choir?

  • Holy crap, I was wondering this for YEARS!

  • great searching work! really

  • Right in the first two minutes we've gone from John Waters to Lawrence of Arabia!

  • Really amazing that you put this together. Thank you!

  • Where did the kid and teacher samples come from?

  • google for "aunt theresa wood that talked" - its an old childrens story record. its on grooveshark / whosampled as well :D

  • amazing vid

  • That's incredible! XD

  • Wow, excellent working sourcing all this!

  • Awesome that you actually found all those samples and put them in this video.

  • Nooo. Where's the violin sample from?

  • thanks for the great sample hunting job dude..bless

  • great work! Well done!

  • Does anyone know the name of the violin sample? its the only one i am looking for and the only one thats not on here! : (

  • the drums honestly sound more Dr. green thumb to me

  • Still don't get all the bits here. Where is VIOLIN part from? Someone mentioned Egg Zacked Lee, haven't got a clue what that's all about

Loads of respect for the research, funny shit all this.

  • A mystery solved! Thanks!

  • Excellent work! Your hard work is wholly appreciated! :)

  • Thank you for doing this research!

  • There is a part supposibly from the movie The Burbs. Any idea?

  • this is great!!!

  • Excellent Work !!

  • This is how it should be done. One the best things I've seen on here

  • Where is the violin part from?? I'm obsessed with the violin part.

  • @Whomiddity Egg Zacked Lee

  • Are you still looking for Windmills of your Mind? watch?v=9OiSqjNjVA0

  • This too? watch?v=huSn8-3yPLA

  • Anna by Tony Mottola has an almost identical guitar part to El negro zumbon...and considering they sampled Tony Mottola numerous other times, I'm thinking the guitar at the end may be from Anna.

  • El Negro Zumbon

    watch?v=j-HNZLg6ntI

  • godd work, you may also look for aunt berta childrens records for the parrot samples,

  • Outstanding work! In fact; it's a fifty storey outstanding work with a magnificent entrance hall, a free bar, 24 hour porterage and a large neon sign on top which says "Outstanding Work". Bravo!

  • Impressed.

  • Hey you guys...there's this little thing called whosampled. It''s a website that will tell you all this and more.

    Just a heads up.

  • @mascadanator this is true man but the file on whosampled isnt nearly as comprehensive as what Rickydown has done in this video.

  • Rickydown, I want your brain!

  • You rock, man. Just thought you should know

  • and what about the violine??????? the part???

  • Wow, this is amazing backtracking work!!

  • That's kinda deep finding such samples. Fine research you did there to dig 'em out. Thanx for clearing the little pest that stuck to my head through Avalanches' music. Thought i needed a frontier psychiatrist myself !

  • So glad you posted this! I first heard the song about 6 months ago, and have been going nuts ever since, trying to figure out where the samples came from. Of course, knowing the source for some of them makes it even more freaky than it already was :-)

  • Rickydown, you have no idea how long i have been looking for all the elements of this track, amazing! thank you.

  • What the hell is this 'The 'Burbs' sample I've been reading about? I have the movie, but I never noticed anything.

  • Thanks a lot for doing this, I had the guitar part stuck in my head today and I wondered how the hell I would find out all the samples used in this song. Rick rolled and Chocolate rain aside, It seems youtube is a great educational resource.

  • Anyone know what "tighten your buttocks" and "pour juice on your chin" are from?

  • Great work! Really interessting!

  • "To an optometrist!" at 3:55 in this video is from another Wayne and Shuster recording, "A Shakespearean Baseball Game". Search the title on YouTube, go to the video and skip to 6:15.

Also, I've got a feeling those heavy drums at 2:15 in Frontier Psychiatrist are sampled from Eddie Bo and Inez Cheatham's "Lover and a Friend". (also sampled by DJ Shadow on "Brainfreeze")

  • anyone know where the teachers sample is from? the parrot bit

  • I also found the sound which is a horse.Comes from Mel and Tim's Good Guys Only Win in the Movies. Can be heard within El Negro Zumbon and the dialogue.

  • thanks for cathcing on about 10 years late

  • 3:53 is Bart Simpson sample :)

  • Good stuff, except Silvana Mangano lip synched to Flo Sandons "El Negro Zumbon"

  • Thankyou so much for making this video!

I was sitting here wondering where all the samples came from, I didn't think there was any chance of someone making a video about it. Excellent work!

  • I know this might be a stretch, but I feel as though the parrot woman at the end could possibly be Virginia Belmont. It really sounds like her to me--not to mention, she's known for her famous singing and talking birds.

  • fuckin awesome ! i love this..

  • I am just amazed not only at the amazing samples put together by The Avalanches, but also that you found them all. Amazing job and it would be criminal if The Avalanches did not release another album.

  • Does anyone know where the whole "can you think of anything than can talk other than a person..." bit comes from?

  • Wow. The horse sample in "Frontier Psychiatrist" is actually the same one heard in "Insane In the Membrane" by Cypress Hill...who wudda thunk?

  • Excellent work here, Rickydown. Do you know what the sample is following Flip Wilson's 'promised my girlfriend' speech from "Riot Suit" on 'Frontier Psychiatrist'? It sounds similar to an Ennio Morricone score.

  • I did a history report on Flip Wilson about a year ago, I had no idea he was sampled by the Avalanches. :D

  • The horse sound in "Frontier" and "Stay Another Season" it's by Mel & Tim's "Good Guys Only Win In The Movies" from their 1969 LP of the same name. The same sample was used by Cypress Hill's "Insane in The Brain"

  • Here's some info on the samples from "Frontier Psychiatrist", revealed by The Avalanches in an interview.

There were 37 individual spoken word records sampled on the track. Some things sampled was a golf instructional record; a Christianity record; and some "Reading for the Blind" tapes. I'm presuming the golf instructional record might be one of Arnold Palmer's golf instructional LPs.

  • The opening of "Sweet Hour of Prayer" by The Spurrlows/Regeneration is sampled at 4:02 at "Summer Crane".

  • THANK YOU! AMAZING!

  • The man screaming "to an optometrist" is from "A Shakesperean Baseball Game" by Wayne and Shuster.

  • I LOVE all the work you've done on this. Are you going to finish out the rest of the album Rickydown?

I'm think I hear some "Boogie Nights" by Heatwave in Summer Crane at about 3:38

  • Wow, really cool. Thanks for the hard work presenting this.

  • Pour juice on your genitals?

  • 3:30 sounds like Ren N Stimpy

  • I've been looking for this sort of thing forever! Thanks!

  • what about "the violin"?

  • makes me appreciate this song so much more. what an incredible mix!

  • awesome. you must listen to a lot of records?

  • I enjoyed this so much. thank you.

  • really a great work. thanx, dude.

  • love it!

  • Dexter is a legend, check out his new project - Grrilla Step, turntablism, mpc, log drums, krump dancers!

  • rickydowns work on this project is astronomical. such an excellent job!

  • omg this is great work I'm really glad to hear the samples it brings so much more to the music

  • Interesting, thanks for clearing that up. Mine is also missing the intro to Radio and the Midnight Run sample on Diners Only.

  • This is sort of a random thing, but since you said Summer Crane is next, it reminded me. Are there two different versions of the album out there? One of the prominent samples used on Summer Crane and Extra Kings seems to be missing on my copy of Since I Left You (mine is in a digipak). Always found it sort of odd.

  • @WannaTradePants Yeah, there are different versions that were released in different countries, because some samples couldn't be cleared for other regions. The original Australian issue is in a digipak and the catalog number MOD CD 009 (I forget how many zeroes there are but the number is all 0s and then 9 as the last digit).

  • Hey just wanted to say I really appreciate you doing this!

This has got to be my fav album ever, and hearing where the samples come from makes me appreciate even more. Whereas usually when you find out where a sample came from, it makes the song containing the sample shittier, cuz its not even really flipped or layered or anything.

    Awesome job!

  • heh, " you're a nut, you're crazy in the coconut" love that line

  • And what about the horse scream, and the sample we can hear at 1'30 and at 3'31 ? (it remembers me a movie soundtrack...)

  • haha awesome.

  • At last! Someone who knows what he's doing. Was the teacher/little girl one unfindable though? ("Can you think of anything else that talks...") Great job though.

  • Great job

  • great job!

  • what about the violin part?

  • You forgot one.

Wayne and Shuster's "Shakespearean Baseball" contains the sample of the line "To an optometrist!"

The Youtube user easlovo has a vid of the sketch.

Hope that helps and once again thanks for this amazing series!

  • Also "20,000 Girls" comes from Flip Wilson's "Cowboys and Colored People" as well...

  • Wow!

    thank you for this!

It must have been very hard to find them all but you did it. You'r awesome.

  • Was Etoh created using samples or synths? I'm a little bit curious...

  • Ahhhh finally! Such a brilliant track. Nice video!

  • Love this tune, well done.
