  • Good stuff. And I'm sorta old.

  • I am on my fiends account (dont reply to me).

GOD DAMN I LOVE THIS SONG!!! I LOVE MODEST MOUSE!! blah blah blah

  • Been playing the Bass for years and i'm still not sure whether to strum or pluck :P

  • From the looks of people this has to be Portland Oregon or somewhere in New York

  • After a long period of partying a few years back, this became my theme song. Funny how when you start to slow down how many people suddenly don't care for your company...

  • hahah they all seem so fucked up lol

  • This was on PBS!!! PBS is now officially best tv channel.

  • 2:42 lol

  • @kevthecripkilla What is so funny about 2:42 ? ... I actually feel bad for the guy because he's stuck in a crowd that isn't allowed to show their emotions in any other way than jamming in their little 1' squared area of dance room. I feel soooo bad for that guy (and anyone else in his position).

  • I enjoy my Modest Mouse with a side of cold brew n' smoke

  • This performance has ruined the studio version for me. I need to get this version on my music player and in my car somehow.

  • @ylchobe Haha same man, there is a live album knocking about online featuring this.

  • he got a haircut on stage by Jeremiah and his fiance one concert i went too.

  • He looks *really* pissed about having to say "butt-heads" haha.

  • Top two comments are the best.

  • I am a recovering Heroin addict, so I relate although he was a tweaker,

  • @Turdfergazin stay healthy, best of luck to you.

  • @Turdfergazin You must want people's attention pretty bad, kid. Lol.

  • @Robbie12992 I am just relating to a song, If I wanted peoples attention I wouldn't post in a place virtually anonymous to everyone. I relate to this song is all, Struggled with drug addiction in Seattle and Portland both places he lived, I know the vibe of the Northwest is all.

  • @Turdfergazin God bless you man! I know how you feel :( Lived in missouri for five years and picked up an addiction to vicodin, xanax, percoset, synthetic weed, medical marijuana, and alcohol....moved back to cali and I'm fighting the cravings daily....its hard tho....I miss my friends and I feel so fucking alone everyday....but I gotta stay strong....You'll be in my prayers man.

  • A melhor banda de rock dos EUA!!!

  • I want to see them live soooooo bad..

  • shit kicker city slicker sounds so much better. other than the minor censoring, this is an amazing live performance.

  • SOMEONE PLZ ANSWER!! does isaac brock still live in portland?? this is my favorite band and i would love to see them live!!!!!

  • @rhettgrace1 im sure he does. they just added they're last shows in the US before heading to Brazil. one in Austin, TX and the other in Dallas. since i live in Houston, i will be going to both (:

  • @mocachinomacdaddy you suck... and rock.. and rock some more... enjoy the shows!

  • he played this song with Broken Social Scene at BSS' farewell show in SF last week

  • This is so good, got 2 see them live

  • the good times are killed 7 people

  • What is that instrument that the guy in the chair is playing? It's a certain kind of organ or something, right?

  • i remember flipping through channels when i was in the 6th grade and watching this lol, Anybody know anything about Modest Mouse still playing live?

  • @bkt13 bahahaha, me too! I was a sophomore in high school and was like ".... is that modest mouse.... on PBS!!!"

  • nobody looks happy

  • @dancray Haha I noticed that too. I think this was part of a show that had nothing to do with modest mouse, so no one was really a fan

  • Wow thanks for sharing

  • At 2:30 i finally realized i've been tapping my foot along with this. ;D

  • Lol wat

  • goddamn wish i caught this on tv -_-

  • @Ithinkthisworks

modest mouse live is a whole 'nother experience. especially when you're at a completely different concert and they just pop on stage out of nowhere. (happened twice to me)

  • Seven people cant smoke in here. like if you get what i mean.

  • @PauseNoHomo yeah, eric's got those pockets

  • @FreeZach666 Epic

  • @PauseNoHomo I TOTALLY KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BRO

  • @PauseNoHomo Eric said it was ok though

  • this guy looks like a real bad ass.... not in the tough guy sense of the word...semi on the edge and half out of control at all times

    might be wrong

not real familiar with this group .. but like their music

  • @redifreddy14 well.. the value of the music IS based on how badass they look. looks like you got a winner

  • cough at 1:32!

  • @Krauto83 thats really ignorant of u to say that. Modest mouse is probably one of the best bands of being honest with their fans by not editing instruments and vocals, i saw them live and they sounded exactly like the studio version, or at least more than any other band/artist that i have seen or heard live.

  • @naaastyJAM WORD!

  • @naaastyJAM I haven't seen them live yet, but at least on the youtube videos i can say i'm not really excited about what i see and hear. There are many bands who sound great live, even better than on CD: Okkervil River, The Airborne Toxic Event, The Magnetic Fields, and so on. And they all make music which includes several instruments and complex sonorities. And they give a better approach to their songs on live shows than on studio records.

  • what i love about modest mouse is that they 99 percent sound like they do on cd its great. most bands arnt as good live as they r on the cd

  • @NalpalmBunny They don't sound at all like they do on the studio versions. And i strongly dislike that. Besides a few performances, they got me very disappointed in most of their live shows. They're technically good, but can't express much feeling in their live shows. Their cd's are very good, but i understand there's a lot of work behind the songs, just to make them sound so much better than they actually are. They're a genious band, though, and i think not many people can argue with that.

  • is it me or does this guy need to be mentioned with the greatest guitarists of all time?

  • @mtthw74 its you

  • got 1 got L i know you can cary it on the good times are killing me. the kicker city slickers the good times are killing me. hanging on all that lsd. coocine and meth . after that some worm wiski. the good times are killing me east side greedy e state are all killing me. enough to make my self an eniry rug.. the good times are killing me like what did i say the good times are killing me. blah and nah. good times are killing me.

  • @corpvl That was terrible.

  • @corpvl you forgot the "just don't know I just don't care" part

  • I always thought this song would be fun to play. They just made it seem so laid-back.

  • sxsw!

  • This rendition is amazing, Gotta hand it to a band when they sound better live then on an album.

  • Best hangover song/warning for moderation ever.

  • I wonder if those guys ever wonder why the highest rated comment one half they're video is- Hutch!

  • Why do they need 2 drummers?

  • @JSPgamer More badassery requires more drums, noob.

  • 2:41 - 2:50 lol

  • @graffbx hahaha

  • Missoula, Montana

  • I just dunno them I just don't care.

  • @obsessivechickx WHERE?!?!

  • gonna see em in 3 weeks... CANNOT WAIT

  • @monterrapin WHERE!?!?!

  • An amazing version of this song, but nobody looks particularly happy to be there. I've seen modest mouse several times and they always looked like they were having a good time to me (when Isaac wasn't too drunk anyways). Why do they all look so pissed off?

  • @looshkin66 they're having a good time but it's killing them

  • @looshkin66 Maybe he was thinking of how this song is so true and how all those drugs killed him a little

  • I LOVE IT!! XD

  • you know time?

  • these guys look so bored

  • It makes me realize how much I miss certain people and times from my past, but the realization that the memories made it all worth while is everything to me.

  • awesomeness ;)

  • I fucking love modest mouse...don't get me wrong. But look at his ears at 1:18...strange.But that's what make's him damn beautiful!

  • @heathinman whaat do you mean?

  • @MrRaven92 His ear kind of looks not fully developed....it looks a little deformed.

  • @heathinman What's wrong with his ear. Looks like an ear to me.

  • @heathinman What does that have to do with anything. Just shut up Isaac Brock is a champ. FIN!

  • where the download?!

  • Like this if hutches trailer for his new montage brought you here!

  • Hutch.

  • @iRhyso fail

  • i see stevo, house and micheal cera

  • fuc* this is awsome

  • hutch!

  • Modest Mouse gave me the best memories a man could ever ask for.

  • Do people expect this band to stay static doing one sound from 18 years ago? No, they are going to evolve artistically and musically. The Modest Mouse of today is as good as the Modest Mouse of 97 and the Modest Mouse of 2027 and you can never accuse them of staying or sounding the same.

  • anyone who watches this, go watch the videos from 97, go buy long road with nothing to say and lonesome crowded west. you will not be disapointed. the old mouse surpasses the new by tenfold

  • saw them at radio city hall in NYC,and they fucking rock, one of my top 10 bands of all time.

  • Comment removed

  • michael cera on the drums? 2:57

  • @filthyfilll "Whats that movie where he plays an awkward teenager?"

  • @filthyfilll funny thing is that now Michael Cera is actually in a band with Joe Plummer....weird

  • MM is great cause they all play there own simple riff or beat and when it all comes together its magic. noones got a be fancy and showboat. MM FOR EVER

  • hahahah their all high as fuck

  • what kind of microphone is isaac using? the one rapped in orange tape..

  • @0thekillers00 It's probably from some kind of CB radio or a megaphone. They're used by some bands to get the poor quality sound. I've noticed them used by the gorillaz and Muse too.

  • good version but I miss the genius end from the studio version, where the whole song builds itself up to an orchester-like-miserable-feeling.

  • Too bad it's hard to understand the words if you don't know them. Wanna put one on fb that the words are clearer. I LOVE ISAAK!

  • TWO DRUMMERS???

  • love the drums at 3:43 with the rough guitar

  • What kind of microphone is the one with the tape around it? Not specifically, just what... Type, if you will.

  • He looks so sad

  • so much better without Johny Marr

  • best live performance ever.

  • @MrRaven92 yes!

  • I think I like this better than the studio version!

  • @graciegjj Me too. alot better. More music :) better guitar sounds as well

  • @graciegjj hell yeah!

  • @graciegjj yeahh i think the fact that it's live gives it more soul and feeling. the studio versions kinda flat imo.

  • @jahcksawn I love modest mouse both live and their studio stuff. I like listening to their songs live because they all sound a little different in a good way and I like live music. And sometimes even different live versions of the same song can sound uniquely different, they have so much talent!

  • @jahcksawn for example i like the live version of ocean breathes salty the one they did on conon o brain. but there was this one they did on snl and i can't seem to find it anywhere on the net now... i had it downloaded once on an old computer wish i still had it. it was such a good version of ocean breathes salty. if anyone has that one they did on snl please sent it to me!:)

  • @graciegjj send* it to me:)

  • @graciegjj without a doubt.

  • @graciegjj live is always better than studio with the modest mouse.

  • Brock's lower rougher voice reminds me of Elvis and johnny cash mixed together. ITS AWESOME LIKE THE WHOLE BAND.

  • 5:40 Clearly the sound of the guitar failing in Rock Band :P

Damn I love Modest Mouse :D

  • Comment removed

  • i opened my facebook after clicking thus and i swear i thought i was listening to the studio version

  • austin city limits, right?

  • It's cool that they have two drummers, and the music is so relaxing, i Believe this music is towards mature people :)

  • anybody know what kind of keyboard that is??

  • @Doublea547 I am fairly sure it's fender rhodes.

  • @MoonisGod226 it's definitely not a fender rhodes. it's some kind of air organ.

  • @monkeysnail I was referring to the one next to Isaac which is definitely a rhodes.

  • I WANT THIS CONCERT!!!!

  • 2:42 ELLIS?

  • I Love Their Looks At 4:50. They Know Whats Gonna Go Down(= And Epic Seshion!!

  • is there a dvd or blu-ray of this concert?

  • @smeade3760 I'm wondering the same thing.

  • Two Drummers?

  • @XcathbrianX

    hell yes.

One drummer could most likely do it, but they are all about the subtitle-ties.

It's what makes amazing music, amazing.

    Check out The Beatles.

  • @rakuencallisto Why did you hyphenate subtleties? lol

  • Just pure, un-adulterated, from the soul AWESOMENESS. This band musically is unmatched talent wise and Isaac Brock is the Lennon figure of my generation. When you "get" every song, it just speaks for so many people!

  • why didnt the guy who plays trumpet Tom something, play acoustic that way Eric could play bass

  • @imjohnandyouare I'm pretty sure Eric is not there, and Eric plays guitar on this on the album version anyway

  • @AlistairIsCool Eric is playing acoustic what are u talking about?? look at some of the other vids of this show and hes playing bass....

  • @imjohnandyouare who cares what hes playing it sounds pretty damn good

  • "I just don't know and I just don't care" haha

  • If you listen to this video with headphones, you can hear each drummer in each respective ear :D

  • Good performance but no bass? =(

  • is the tattoo on his right forearm the cover to the satellite skin LP?

  • @KingTutle you can see it at 0:23

  • @KingTutle ? did you just respond to your own comment?

  • @storm253 to explain where you can see it only. So yes i suppose.

  • @KingTutle Yeah actually.

Most of his tattoos seem to be showing up on his album covers. He has the Anchor Balloon on the same arm. You can see it in the World at Large video when he puts his arm on the keyboard.

  • @VirtualSting

i knew about the anchor one, i dont know where i learned about it, maybe in one of his interviews. Any idea when a new album will come out? I know they are working on one.

  • Does anyone know if there was a recording of this and if so where can I get it? Truly outstanding artists.

  • @a323kid I would guess the PBS website Or KQED or whatever its called

  • I would kill to have this on Vinyl LP!!!!!

  • Even with 2 drummers, they still have a more controlled, tasteful drum sound than most bands.

  • the recorded version of this song is so much more mellow and stoner-like... If that one is marijuana, this one is crack and I like it better.

  • What is that red mic thing he is singing into? looks sorta like a radio mic?

    anyone know?

  • it has a weird effect, almost makes him sound like hes talking into a walkie talkie or something. go around 1:50 you'll see what i mean

  • no it looks like a mega phone speaker that cops use.

  • it's called a green bullet. it's microphone that a lot of blues harmonica players use for distortion. but a lot of people use it to sing into too which sounds awesome too.

  • i feel high now

  • 5:39 band on drugs lol

everyone looks like theyre doin their own thing

  • this is easily the best performance of this song i've ever seen!

This whole austin city limits was fucking AMAZING!!!!!

  • i love what he does with his guitar at 5:05 where he puts it right down to the floor

  • Is half of Isaac's right eyebrow missing in this video?

  • i really like the meaning behind this song.

  • This is from a broadcast of Austin City Limits. The giant landmarks are a stage backdrop. These guys are so good!
