i have qustione wiche better to ride the v 650 storme or the kawasaki dl 500 i wanna buy one and i want it for long traviling verey long and thx ...n_n
Hi azmiealtibi. In my opinion if you want to travel long distances I'd preffer the V-Strom 650. It's a very reliable motorbike and would never let you down and let me tell you that the seat is very comfortable as well. Another good thing is that is comes with big gas tank and it consumes depending on the driving conditions, 6 - 6.5 lts of gasoline every 100 kms at speeds between 130-140 km/h. If riding at 90-100 km/h 4.8 - 5.2 lts.
I'm looking to buy this bike, but i've got a question about the hight. I'm not that tall of a person, I'm 1,80 meters. Is the riding position good for my hight? Good video btw, realy usefull in comparrison with al the small video's.
I actually have the same high than you and had no problem at all. The bike looks huge when you're off the bike. Once ride it's really comfortable, and has one of the best riding positions in the segment. What you'll need is a madstad. That will allow you to easily change or modify the high and inclination of the windscreen, eliminating the turbulence that most users complains about when riding above 140 km/h. Greets from Argentina
Okay, thanks for the info;) I've read about this bike and also read about the riding position, it's nice to know that! Always was a fan of supermoto bikes, but those tiny seats make your butt hurt after like an hour of riding:P Not something I want when I travel trough Europe.
You're right. You need a very good seat when traveling long distances. One more thing, about the tires. If it comes with the Bridgestone let me tell you that those tires aren't the best option when you go off road. A good option would be the Michelin Anakee, most people replace the original bridgestone and choose michelin. The bike it self changes a lot with the new tires, also when it rains they perform awsome. They also last much longer than the originals. BTW, my name is Alexander. See 'ya
Okay, something more I want to change about the V-strom is the exhaust. I do like it when the bike makes a bit of noice when I drive somewhere. A uncle of my has the V-strom 1000 cc, with two open exhaust, thing produces so much noice, when driving trough the street, car alarms go off:P pretty sick. Greetings;)
Haha i'm sorry about that. Here in Holland most the avarage hight of a man is about 1,85 or something. I even think Dutch woman are the tallest of Europe. My girlfriend is 1,83m tall :P
It is, isn't it :P. Well i'm just a little guy here in holland, I think it's way nicer to live in Portugal, not just for my lenght, but also because of the weather:P it's always shit here :P
well i tried sitting on a versys and didn't like it. One thing which i noticed about the versys is that when you put your foot down, the pegs poke into your calf.. i have never sat on a VStrom so is it the same issue with the VStrom too ??
If you plan to travel with someone else, I think the DL 1000 is the best. The gas mileage is not so different. The maximum mileage I was able to achieve with the DL 650 was 293 miles at 55 miles average because of the road. And I still have 2 litres of gasoline left. Both are excelent bikes, it depends of your budget too.
the kawasaki versys is very smilar in terms of performance compared with the suzuki V-Strom. The V-Strom has a very confortable driving position and has no troubles with the foot pegs.
Very nice video seculic, thanks for putting it here. Currently i ride a VStar 650 custom cruiser and i am looking to upgrade to a dual sport. Currently i am considering the VStrom DL1000 and a VStrom DL650 and i am more leaning towards the 650 because of the gas milage.
Can you pls tell me more about how is your bike running and how do you feel overall ?
Sorry Shumshedi for taking so long to answer. I had the chance to ride the V-Strom 1000 and its really powerful compared with the small one, the 650. 98 cvs against 67 cvs it really feels...I can tell you that. When riding in highways i.e: 4.500 RPM at 150 km/h = 94 miles /h. Is like the engine is falling asleep, very smooth. It's only 14 kg heavier than the 650.
If it's a bike review, I KNOW everyone would like to hear what you like about the bike, and pro's and con's. If i wanted to look at the bike i can run into the nearest shop and look!
Nice bike though, I'm stuck on what to get a KLR 650 or V Strom 650, I want to ride enduro, and it's looking like this bike is more street oriented, though a skid plate and knobby tires could beef it up a bit...
It's a 360-degree "review" as in to visually look at the bike. Not "review" as in pros/cons of the bike. I actually appreciate seculic's work because my local dealer does not have any V-Stroms. Thank you for the great video, seculic. As for your question, 44helopilot: read my second comment.
I've done extensive reading online about the current lineup of 650 dual purpose machines because I enjoy dual purpose/adventure touring bikes the most. The bottom line is: KLR650 has always been rated the worst for both onroad and off. The Suzuki DR650SE is supposed to be the best dual purpose for onroad use. The Honda XR650L is supposed to be the best dual purpose for offroad use. I would choose between those two. For adventure touring, go Suzuki V-Strom, Buell Ulysses, or BMW GS series.
Thanks a bunch, it all helps, I've been doing my research and have narrowed it down to probably the new BMW F650GS, it's more expensive, but i'll just have to save a bit longer, it's a great on road bike with what it needs to go offroad, throw some more agressive tires on, and it will have more than enought suspension and torque, only bumer is it's pretty new so there aren't many customer reviews, but i have heard it's quite the bike
You're right. Nowdays it's very difficult to find dual purpose machines, most bikes are meant for road riding, not off-road riding. I don't know why the Japs stopped manufacturing the Africa Twin 750 i.e. g Greets from Argentina
One last thing I feel I should clarify: When I say the KLR650 has always been rated the worst for onroad and off, I mean rated the worst by the customers. I don't mean by magazines and/or professional reviewers. I trust customer reviews more than professionals, so take that into consideration. Also, I have specifically read the newest KLR650 revisions have made it very unreliable. For instance, I've read numerous reports of the muffler falling off after a few thousand miles.
Nice video, beautiful views of bike.
I bought a silver one; some angles I like it, some I don't. But in black, it kind of looks mean, which is good.
Thanks for sharing!

Yes, I hear the new 800GS is good, too. (And don't forget KTM is supposed to have good bikes. They're expensive as heck, though!)

For on & off riding there is nothing best than KTM. Specially off road. The 990 Adventure really rocks...
