Weird. Nobody seems to be more concerned or annoyed in Singapore about PAP. Maybe Singaporeans ain't even bothered about it.
And not getting bothered means people are pretty comfortable with the current governance. Wendy please grow up. That short part of Chee Soon Juan, I find it rather disgusting, how those kopitiam people had nothing better to do than watching Chee talking what? Politics?
Learn from Mr Chiam and Mr Low, earn the people's respect first.
Weird. If nobody seems annoyed, why do you need to go everywhere to carry its balls?
Everyone is bothered; That's why PAP needs GRC, changing electoral boundaries and defamation suits to "win" elections. Pls grow up - get your head out of the sand!
Chee was talking about voting responsibly. You got a problem with even that? Gee, you disgust me!
People respect Chee for wanting to reform the system. PAP ball-carriers prefer to promote Chiam/Low who are of no threat. lol
hmmm plenty of sweeping statements in all the comments posted here, without much backing other than more sweeping statements...
not to mention you're painting the GEP students in a wrong light; they're not necessarily elites, though plenty of smart people have come out of that program...
I did not paint the GEP students in any wrong light. I said if you are in GEP, PAP will let you rise to the top (provided you want to too), but if you are not in GEP (esp for eg, in normal stream), PAP puts a glass ceiling over you for the rest of your life, based solely on your performance at Primary 6! Now which part puts GEP students "in a wrong light"?
So ok. maybe they really did brainwashed me. but what they use to brainwash me with are not Patriotic songs, Social studies textbook or PAP kindergartens. they shown me economic progress, hygiene, strong currency, safety, among other things...albeit restrictions in political freedom. also coz my mum had seen worse times. she survived on leftovers when she was young with 10 ppl cramped in a room without window. now we live comfortably. so i'm not complaining.
ntuman, u think u are still living in a developing country, where food/shelter suffice?
FYI, our PM's salary is > Canada + UK + USA + Germany + France + Japan + Spain + Italy COMBINED. Shouldn't you be comparing yourself to citizens of these G8?
What "leftovers"? Compare to Africa better lah! FYI, You are paying 1st world living cost!!!
Btw, sg is the 1st country in Asia to go into recession. Wat economic progress? Korea, Taiwan and Japan have BOTH economic progress AND political freedom.
ntuman, you amused me. When an employer sign a 4-year contract with an employee, at the end of the 4 years, he decides whether to re-employ the man based on the his performance over the past 4 years, not the past 40 years! So why are you talking about "burnt bread skin" from 40 years ago?
That's the past! Get over with it! For goodness sake, 40 years have gone by! It's from 2004 till election day that you should be appraising PAP on!
aiyah.. there's no job that trains you directly in politics and governance. the only way is to get into it to learn. so its safe to say that everyone start from zero experience in politics. so where do we start? find those 300 spartans lor. bo bao the best. but still somewhere there.
the army men? i dunno. maybe they'll be scientist or some other job if they are didnt sign on. probably not wall street . i dunno any sg CEO in wallstreet. do you?
Where do we start? We start by NOT trying to find those 300 spartans, as if we are capable of social engineering! We start by allowing interested candidates to stand up for elections on their own initiatives (and I have given egs earlier of capable people who stood up)! We start by trusting that voters will be able to choose the best candidate instead of looking down on voters.
But they did sign on. They do NOT have "lucrative jobs" in private sector. Hence, salary is leegalised corruption.
if only we had 30million n at the same time able to accommodate all of us. if we still had christmas island+reclaiming it by 100times. (just kidding). maybe we'll have 3000 to choose from. maybe only 1% have integrity and are willing. we still have 30. but 3mill plus declining at 1.29 per woman... i think we are going to be extinct in 2 generations. eh... maybe you can help our country bear a few more kids. i don't wish we get culturally and ethnically adsorbed.
We have more than enough numbers of capable men and women who are ready to stand up for election. LKY's way of pre-selecting and choosing from 300 or 1% is nonsense and detrimental to sg. I have explained that. I have given evidence. You hare not rebutted me. Instead you are now repeating yourself like a broken record. lol
S'poreans will reproduce if they see a bright future for their kids. While all developed countries have low birth rate, ours is lowest. Why? Ans: lky treat us like sh*t!
eh.. wendy, i did not launch any personal attacks against you. so can we keep it objective instead?
"...detrimental to sg. I have explained that. I have given evidence."
sorry i did not read your earlier post about us having enough capable men. i would like to think so too. but im afraid many capable people wants to go one with their lives and not get involved. which is not good at all.
If a "capable" person do not want to enter politics, then by definition, that person is not "capable in politics.
Eg. Why would you stubbornly insist a person who refuse to be a doctor is going to be a good doctor and then bribe him to enter medical school? That's perversion! Leave him alone. An unwilling doctor makes a lousy doctor! There are more than enough other capable men who are vying to enter medical school! Likewise, there are enough capable politicians and I have listed some!
hey i did not launch any personal attacks against you. so lets keep it objective k.
"..detrimental to sg. I have explained that. I have given evidence."
sorry i did not read your earlier posts. i would like to think we have enough capables. but many wouldnt want to get involved also.
anyway. i tot S'porean spending their life time pursuing the singapore dream? carefree. no obligations. and have many many Cs and no children. do you have any kids?
I am in Aust only temporarily. Singapore is my native homeland. When lky/pap is out, I will be back. Don't say it's impossible. Marcos was chased out of Philippines. Democracy is sweeping Asia. Meanwhile, I will stay out here and "help out" with some videos while outside ISD's reach. THat's not being unpatriotic. It's call working from both within and without: 里应外合.lol
Yes may sweeping reforms come across both Malaysia and Singapore, one one day let our countries be finally reunited =) Polliticians divided the country along the Straits of Johor - nothing else
well the high salary, though nobody likes it(i hope they donate some to me ;P), made sure these "elite's" got their financial status taken care of first so they don't leave for a more lucrative private sector. or betray their country by some multi million dollar bribe from some other country to get things going their way...
They do not have "more lucrative" jobs in the private sector. Former military men - do you think Wall street is going to pay these soldiers with zero financial knowledge "lucrative jobs"? Doctors - zero experience in politics and since they are reluctant, they should remain docs.
They have already betrayed Singapore by some multi million dollar bribe by lky to do lky's bidding eg kangaroo court
my understanding is that we should field our best and brightest to run a country. to make the best decisions and have gd foresight. coz if that's 0.01% of our tiny population. it means we only have 300 "potentials" to pick from. how to not lose them to private sectors etc? call it elitist or whatever it is, i think given our situation, it is in our best interests. i hope we don't someday see a moviestar becoming PM because of his popularity. like Joseph.E.
Who is the best and the brightest? That's for voters to decide, from among the numerous capable citizens who are more than ready to serve: JBJ (Magistrate), Francis Seow (Soliciter-General), Tang Liang Hong (Lawyer), Lee Siew Choo (Doctor), Chee Soon Juan (Neuropsychologist).
It's not for LKY to decide before-hand, by picking from among 300 unwilling "potentials" pre-selected using his warped criteria, and then to bribe them using high salary to enter election!
Ronald Reagan was an actor. He was a great American President. Straight As at A-level 30 yrs ago, does not make one a good leader 30 years later - unless you are brain-washed by lky's nonsensical way of selecting(!!!) a leader!
It's the interest to serve, the ability to feel for the people's need etc that counts. That's for the voters to decide, not for LKY to select(!!!) b4 hand.
Why do you regard yourself as an idiot that can only vote on people based on their "popularity" (as if "popularity" the opposite of "best and capable"!) and will not be capable of discerning and voting for the "best and brightest"?
LKY regards ordinary citizens as incapable of the above. Are you part of LKY's elite circle? You are just an ordinary citizen! Why do you buy his nonsense and look down on YOURSELF?
Bottomline: 1) There are more-than-enough capable citizens who are willing to stand for election (and I have cited some) and there will be many more, had they not become politically indifferent due to the political stifling climate . 2) You are capable of choosing them - don't look down on yourself just because lky looks down on you. 3) LKY's way ot pre-selected assholes who did well in A-levels 30 years ago is flaw and the incapable "potentials" he fielded is leading sg down the drain!
of course popularity is not the opposite of capability. what were you thinking?! its just a gamble to vote for the most popular.
im just an ordinary citizen. though i feel my grades do not justify level of talent. im still gonna leave it up to them to choose who to lead the country. coz i dont know politics. i dont really know who i am voting anyway. they are just faces and some biodata. just like the rest of us. but i know that they do know whats best for us.
I hate to call you a slave. I hate to say you are an apple polisher or a ball-carrier But tell me, what do you expect me to say when you talk like this? How do you know they do know what's best for you??? You are talking as if they are gods and you are a staunch believer!!!
it would be strange if you call me slave or apple polisher or ball-carrier. coz they dont give me a single cent for it. im just honestly speaking based on my observations. you are a strong advocate of freedom of speech rite? im just speaking straight from my heart. and if that against your doctrine, it does not mean i dont have the right to express myself. i think you should also respect me.
I respect your right to express yourself ah! Else why do you think I approves all comments and spend the time to reply you? But I am really lost for words, when you talk like this: "i know that they do know whats best for us."
How do you know they know...? Only slaves worship leaders like that. WE - you and I - are not slaves! So let us - you and I - be thinking citizens and question our politicians' motive. Especially those who enter politics for money's sake. If we trust wolves, we suffer.
> im still gonna leave it up to them to choose who to lead the country.
Most people prefer to live in a democracy, where they are the masters and can choose which public servant to CARRY OUT THEIR WISH for the country. Funny, you prefer to live in a dictatorship, be a slave, and leave it to your dictator to choose themselves and to LEAD you!
> coz i dont know politics.
Then learn!
> i dont really know who i am voting anyway. they are just faces
Wow, it looks like you carry balls for a living, So much so that my criticism of your master irks you so much that you have to resort to cursing me! lol. What an obedient running dog you are.
Yes, accident can happen anywhere in the world. So you better start worrying. Karma will come back to haunt you, for helping your PAP masters to bully the peasants. You will die and end up in 18th level of hell. B4 that, you will have a child without asshole, like lky. lol
Asshole, y u curse me for making this video? Your bitch mother did not teach you any manners? No wonder you are a son of a bitch!
You will not die. But your father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter will suffer untimely deaths before you. You will be lying on the bed forever...
..wondering what you have done to deserve seeing them go before you. And the answer is: 'cos you are a siao kia who curse those who oppose your PAP masters! I pity your mom.
i dunno that you need straight As for A levels. talent is not just about academic grades. it encompasses so many other things. its hard to find an objective yardstick. so what other alternative then?
I am glad you know talent is not just abt academic grades. Unfortunately, lky does not know. Till today, he is still stubbornly trying to select politicians and civil servants and govt-linked companies ceo etc based on A-levels!
For politicians, there should be no "objective yardstick" to talk about - politicians should not be pre-selected by lky!! It should be up to voters to select
the scholarships given by private sectors also look at grades. so what can i say. you know what. i ever applied for a job and asked for a scholarship thingy. and the interviewers said this to me. "sorry we cant give it to you. this is a scholarship and the only thing we can judge you from are your grades... " so how? how else would they want to judge.
I think u are talking abt govt-owned companies, not private. They learnt from the bad egs of PAP.
In other countries, your progess in job is determined by your talent/experience. But under PAP, if you are not from gifted stream with overseas scholarship, you have an artificial glass ceiling which you can never climb up no matter how talented you are. Your promotion goes to the scholars even if u are better.
Why u like such a system? U prefer to be judged your WHOLE life based on your A-levels?
no disrespect to them wendy. they are professionals and deserves to be considered. but election is like a popularity contest. people just go with the flow with whoever's charismatic or outspoken. its not a good gauge of their policy making ability.
the selection criteria may not be the best. at least we know they are kept long enough to be trained for the post. scrutinized as they move a long.
1st, election is like a popularity contest only in Singapore! A fake democracy where politicians can only rally for 9 days, where the media censors and ban political speeches etc.
2nd, what's wrong with popularity, charisma, or being outspoken? They are ESSENTIAL abilities of a politician! Policy-making is the job of the civil servants aka perm secs, not politicians!!! Politicians are there to *choose* a policy from among the many *made* by the perm secs. And this ability to *choose* comes from the ability to connect with the people - charisma, popularity, outspoken.
PAP's selection criteria is rubbish. The concept of training a politician is rubbish! We are not digits or guinea pigs. Why should we be selected - based on our PSLE, O/A-levels - into a designated role for the rest of our live and be trained for that post be it engineering, or politics! Why are you supporting SOCIAL-ENGINEERING?
In real democracy, politicians are not unwilling top students that need to be trained for years. These countries did better than Sg. Think about it!
I have listed one whole list of capable politicians. Singapore has never lacked politicians who are capable and charismatic and outspoken and can lead Singapore. We can start with Lim Chin Siong: watch?v=gCGLaiKFaX8&fmt=18
and go all the way to Chee Soon Juan.
The only problem: LKY does not believe in the free market! He want to pick politicians instead of allowing them to come out freely! And those he pick, they are not interested and so have to be bribed with high salary.
going by this logic, any nation with a population smaller than singapore ( there are many small nations in the world ) should pay their politicians more...
The fact that you can find such a video is already an evidence of freedom in usa. Do you dare to make such a video and post it in Singapore govt-hosted website where your IP can be logged?
If I need to come up with even one evidence(!!!) to prove to you that USA have much more freedom than Singapore, I would be insulting your intelligence. Don't make me do that. U remind me of those pple living in N. korea - they think it is the richest and most free and "bestest" country in the world! lol
There will always be conspiracy theory abt Obama or any American leader. Some even say 911 is started by their own american govt! It is up to you whether you believe in such conspiracy rubbish.
We got citizenship benefits meh? Since I was old enuf to read State's Times:
NS LIABILITY
NO WELFARE CRUTCH
FOREIGNERS ARE TALENTED BECAUSE OUR LOCAL POOL OF TALENT IS TINY AND CONCENTRATED IN ONE FAMILEE
It has never been clear to me what benefits a Singapore citizen has. The compulsory vote is also very mafan. If you recall the Cheng San (vs TLH) election, they took forever to count and blank ballots were in the box before polling started. Greater Immortals preordained the result.
sgcitizen, instead of arguing on the points in the video, you have chosen to launch a support-PAP session here on free youtube. (cannot argue rite?)
Dun call yourself a citizen of the Republic of Singapore if you have done nothing for the advancement of the citizenry, and nothing that a citizen of a democratic country is supposed to do.
Wendy is correct . Of course no one want to argue about you are clever.
But one thing have the guts to answer. Just this as comparison as example and dont need to be long beat about the bush:
In Taiwan, they have many gigantic co's like Acer, ASUS, Chi Mei (among worlds largest LCD maker), Hong Hai (in case u dont know they make ipods), TSM, UMC, Formosa plastics, just to name these among dozens of world class factories which SIngapore cant even have 1 to match any of theirs.
well, I wasn't arguing or trying to make a point if I am clever or not, I am just stressing that although media is a good way of tracking, it should also be responsible for their reportings.
look at 陳幸妤, she can't even live a normal life and work normally with all the media around her. even people in the media made fun of her. I believe unless we have a mature media, who would play a responsible role ... I would not agree to such terms.
No, sgcitizen, you are not "just stressing". You are trying to turn every good thing (that Singapore should have but which PAP refuse to have), into bad thing by highlighting rare, extreme negative examples, as if these egs can obliterate the vast benefits of those things. You did that for "peaceful assembly" previously. And now you are doing it again, for "free media".
Whether you have a hidden agenda for *consistently* doing so or not, that I leave it to you to ask yourself :)
well, we must not only focus on the pros, but have to highlight the cons as well to have a mature discussion on the issue we have here.
do we really want to list out all the best bits about "free media" and forget about the problems that might occur? that I leave to everybody to decide.
The answers are on the second frame. And don't say we do not have the money for that - we do! Just that PAP has channeled it to GIC/Temasek for Lee to lose to western banks! Also, our foreign reserves are way too huge compared to our spending. It's like how NKF has $600 million reserves and yet subsidise patient for only $0.01 (No mistake: $0.01!!).
For other Q&A, see my frog video. watch?v=FwCVd_PE4mE
Without a free and open media, who shall be there to tell the people the truth. Who is there to question what is wrong? Who is there to give alternative opinions? And most of the time these are not just "alternative opinions", but common sense and bare, plain truth that the PAP is not doing the right thing, that it is being unpatriotic, disloyal, untruthful, unlawful, unconstitutional, undemocratic, unjust and unequal.
Yes I agree with Wendy. I wanna make an example. I just took an ethic class in USA and we discussed about social security. Yes there might be lazy people that abused the system, but that is not a reason to deny all Americans the benefit of it (like what lky always stress, that's bullshit). You are just like the pap, stressing on the negative part, blah blah blah as excuses to deny Singaporeans the fundamental freedom that we are supposed to have.
This is what USA did with its fundamental freedom: kick out a president who started an unnecessary war and who did a mess to the economy. They saved the world by voting in an anti-war president who is making economic changes.
Without such fundamental freedom, you are stuck with PAP even after it has lost 100 billion of YOUR money. Is this what you prefer?
"borrow more than you have" is capitalism gone wrong. It has NOTHING to do with fundamental freedom which is about democracy, free speech /media /assembly. I am disgusted by your attempt to confuse the two.
Go watch Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans. I thought they were showing Singapore. Yes they showed how dictators (vampires) behave, and how the normal people are scared, and how some hero or martyr or activist or "mad men" like Ong Kah Chua (lycans) will emerge as a result.
The dictator style of governing Singapore has got to end!!! It is hurting Singaporean, we can't breath!!!
Thank you Wendy for your time and effort in making all this videos. I am very sure we would celebrate in the near future when Singapore finally become free.
I think such media reflects only one side of the story, which benifits SDP, not sure if it really applies to the general public's view, most of the supporters behind shouting SDP! SDP! ~ lol
You are not "introducing" an issue, you are simply accusing me of playing "spin doctor". So just say it out! Don't need to hide behind pretentious words like "introduce". That's fake politeness.
But what have I spun? The quotes are all directly from PAP, word for word. The rally's shouting are per all normal rallies. So I see no spinning. You are employing a very dangerous and misleading techniques by hurling accusations with no evidence.
'Good governance' comes from having check and balance in the form of an effective opposition. Thus you would support political parties that advocate for free media/speech/assembly and fair election, all of which are essential to nurture the emergence of an effective opposition. Moreover, you would be against political parties that advocate dictatorship and 141st-ranked govt-controlled media and ISD.
Would you? Of course not! So pls lah, what supporter of "gd governance"? Who r u kidding? lol
Yes, sgcitizen, look at taiwan, thanks to its free media exerting pressure on the govt, Chen Shui Bian's corruption is not only exposed, but he is now jailed!
Is that the kind of free media we want? Yes!
Is that the kind of free media we *need*? Yes!
But no, instead of giving praise to the tremendous good that taiwan's free media has produced, you chose to focus (deliberately or otherwise) on this still-maturing media's bad pt. That has been your style, whether it's abt protest or media :(
Chen Shui-bian has to take responsibility for what he has done.
His family members, who also participated in the corruption, cannot be spared. The media is only asking her questions, why is she so afraid to face the media? Why is she so angry towards the media? Why is she blaming the media for harassing her when she is to be held accountable? She is just putting up a show that she is the victim, so that people would pity her and her corrupted family.
He is worth $300,000,000,000 (three hundred billion)! That's the estimated worth of GIC/Temasek. As GIC's chairman and Temasek's (ex-)CEO's father-in-law, he has free-hand in deciding how to spend that three hundred billion. Eg. he recently decided to "stash" 10+ billions away with some failed western banks, without the parliament having any say in the matter. The money is as good as his!
Before any of you ball-carriers start talking c**k about: "without lee kuan yew, singapore would still be..." rubbish, do yourself a favour. Learn how Sg would've been much better under the real PM:
youtube com/watch?v=gCGLaiKFaX8
Read also what I wrote in the bottom-right corner of this video's last frame:
watch?v=i-8HYcuNrG4&fmt=18
And remember, don't ever compare Singapore with 3rd-world countries, unless you want to embarrass yourself:
Eugenics has been practised in Sg since day 1 and is still being practised, albeit quietly, now that lky does not open his big mouth that often.
Thus, I would urge all PAP INTERNET BRIGADE doggy to first ask yourself - are you an elite (eg. from gifted stream? psc overseas scholars? parent is mp?) before doing your ball-carrying antics...
...because in the eye of your master, you are literally just an expendable running dog; You are supporting elitism when you are not an elite! What a fool!
I should be sadden by your statement here, but I am not going to. u've called me a PAP internet brigade because I did not give positve comments on your videos ... I am not from any of your "e.g.". I'm an average singaporean. u should give others a chance to have their say without having to justify their doings right? if that is what SDP believes. that is part of free speech isn't it? to be able to tolerate.
sgcitizen, rubbish! Firstly, my 1st general msg was not directed at you, but at any potential commentator. That you feel you should be sadden by it is downright weird.
Secondly, I don't remember having labeled you a brigade member, but if I were to do that to anybody, it's never due to anybody not giving positive comments on my video. Instead, in your case, it will be because of your nonsense of coming up with wild accusations and then refusing to back it up when I challenge you to. And now you are doing it again - anyhow accusing me of labeling you for not giving positive comments on my video. I suggest u quit nonsensical accusations that you can't back up
I am not from SDP. You should quit linking me to them. If you want to talk to them, you can go their website. I don't know what nonsense you mean by "give others a chance to have their say without having to justify their doings". All I know is I am sick of you having your say in wild accusations, while refusing to back it up with evidence, after i challenge you to! Eg. your insistence that protest will cause investors to leave sg but not in the case of other countries - no evidence sg is unique!
> I am not from any of your "e.g.". I'm an average singaporean.
Then you should enlighten me why you are supporting an elitist system when you are not an elite and is therefore destined to suffer under such a system. Eg. if you are really an average sg, you will be paying a 1st-world living cost and ministerial salaries, yet receiving a wage that is more 3rd-world than 1st. Why you like that?
sgcitizen, that you are very happy and contented living in an elitist system is itself a suggestion that you support such a system, for if you do not support it, why are you very happy and contented living in it?
btw, I am also very happy to be a Singaporean. I am just very unhappy to be a Singaporean under PAP's elitist system. lol
Politics?

(just kidding). maybe we'll have 3000 to choose from. maybe only 1% have integrity and are willing. we still have 30. but 3mill plus declining at 1.29 per woman... i think we are going to be extinct in 2 generations. eh... maybe you can help our country bear a few more kids. i don't wish we get culturally and ethnically adsorbed.
ntuman 2 years ago 2
We have more than enough numbers of capable men and women who are ready to stand up for election. LKY's way of pre-selecting and choosing from 300 or 1% is nonsense and detrimental to sg. I have explained that. I have given evidence. You hare not rebutted me. Instead you are now repeating yourself like a broken record. lol
S'poreans will reproduce if they see a bright future for their kids. While all developed countries have low birth rate, ours is lowest. Why? Ans: lky treat us like sh*t!
wendyneo 2 years ago
eh.. wendy, i did not launch any personal attacks against you. so can we keep it objective instead?
"...detrimental to sg. I have explained that. I have given evidence."
sorry i did not read your earlier post about us having enough capable men. i would like to think so too. but im afraid many capable people wants to go one with their lives and not get involved. which is not good at all.
ntuman 2 years ago
If a "capable" person do not want to enter politics, then by definition, that person is not "capable in politics.
Eg. Why would you stubbornly insist a person who refuse to be a doctor is going to be a good doctor and then bribe him to enter medical school? That's perversion! Leave him alone. An unwilling doctor makes a lousy doctor! There are more than enough other capable men who are vying to enter medical school! Likewise, there are enough capable politicians and I have listed some!

hey i did not launch any personal attacks against you. so lets keep it objective k.

well the high salary, though nobody likes it(i hope they donate some to me ;P), made sure these "elite's" got their financial status taken care of first so they don't leave for a more lucrative private sector. or betray their country by some multi million dollar bribe from some other country to get things going their way...
ntuman 2 years ago 5
The high salary is leegalised corruption. Period.
They do not have "more lucrative" jobs in the private sector. Former military men - do you think Wall street is going to pay these soldiers with zero financial knowledge "lucrative jobs"? Doctors - zero experience in politics and since they are reluctant, they should remain docs.
They have already betrayed Singapore by some multi million dollar bribe by lky to do lky's bidding eg kangaroo court
wendyneo 2 years ago
my understanding is that we should field our best and brightest to run a country. to make the best decisions and have gd foresight. coz if that's 0.01% of our tiny population. it means we only have 300 "potentials" to pick from. how to not lose them to private sectors etc? call it elitist or whatever it is, i think given our situation, it is in our best interests. i hope we don't someday see a moviestar becoming PM because of his popularity. like Joseph.E.
ntuman 2 years ago 6
Who is the best and the brightest? That's for voters to decide, from among the numerous capable citizens who are more than ready to serve: JBJ (Magistrate), Francis Seow (Soliciter-General), Tang Liang Hong (Lawyer), Lee Siew Choo (Doctor), Chee Soon Juan (Neuropsychologist).
It's not for LKY to decide before-hand, by picking from among 300 unwilling "potentials" pre-selected using his warped criteria, and then to bribe them using high salary to enter election!
wendyneo 2 years ago
Ronald Reagan was an actor. He was a great American President. Straight As at A-level 30 yrs ago, does not make one a good leader 30 years later - unless you are brain-washed by lky's nonsensical way of selecting(!!!) a leader!
It's the interest to serve, the ability to feel for the people's need etc that counts. That's for the voters to decide, not for LKY to select(!!!) b4 hand.
wendyneo 2 years ago
Why do you regard yourself as an idiot that can only vote on people based on their "popularity" (as if "popularity" the opposite of "best and capable"!) and will not be capable of discerning and voting for the "best and brightest"?
LKY regards ordinary citizens as incapable of the above. Are you part of LKY's elite circle? You are just an ordinary citizen! Why do you buy his nonsense and look down on YOURSELF?
wendyneo 2 years ago
Bottomline: 1) There are more-than-enough capable citizens who are willing to stand for election (and I have cited some) and there will be many more, had they not become politically indifferent due to the political stifling climate . 2) You are capable of choosing them - don't look down on yourself just because lky looks down on you. 3) LKY's way ot pre-selected assholes who did well in A-levels 30 years ago is flaw and the incapable "potentials" he fielded is leading sg down the drain!
wendyneo 2 years ago
of course popularity is not the opposite of capability. what were you thinking?! its just a gamble to vote for the most popular.
im just an ordinary citizen. though i feel my grades do not justify level of talent. im still gonna leave it up to them to choose who to lead the country. coz i dont know politics. i dont really know who i am voting anyway. they are just faces and some biodata. just like the rest of us. but i know that they do know whats best for us.
ntuman 2 years ago 9
> i know that they do know whats best for us.
I hate to call you a slave. I hate to say you are an apple polisher or a ball-carrier But tell me, what do you expect me to say when you talk like this? How do you know they do know what's best for you??? You are talking as if they are gods and you are a staunch believer!!!
wendyneo 2 years ago
it would be strange if you call me slave or apple polisher or ball-carrier. coz they dont give me a single cent for it. im just honestly speaking based on my observations. you are a strong advocate of freedom of speech rite? im just speaking straight from my heart. and if that against your doctrine, it does not mean i dont have the right to express myself. i think you should also respect me.
ntuman 2 years ago 12
I respect your right to express yourself ah! Else why do you think I approves all comments and spend the time to reply you? But I am really lost for words, when you talk like this: "i know that they do know whats best for us."
How do you know they know...? Only slaves worship leaders like that. WE - you and I - are not slaves! So let us - you and I - be thinking citizens and question our politicians' motive. Especially those who enter politics for money's sake. If we trust wolves, we suffer.
wendyneo 2 years ago
> im still gonna leave it up to them to choose who to lead the country.
That's because PAP censored info. PAP bad.

wendyneo 2 years ago
i dunno that you need straight As for A levels. talent is not just about academic grades. it encompasses so many other things. its hard to find an objective yardstick. so what other alternative then?
ntuman 2 years ago 6
I am glad you know talent is not just abt academic grades. Unfortunately, lky does not know. Till today, he is still stubbornly trying to select politicians and civil servants and govt-linked companies ceo etc based on A-levels!
For politicians, there should be no "objective yardstick" to talk about - politicians should not be pre-selected by lky!! It should be up to voters to select
wendyneo 2 years ago
the scholarships given by private sectors also look at grades. so what can i say. you know what. i ever applied for a job and asked for a scholarship thingy. and the interviewers said this to me. "sorry we cant give it to you. this is a scholarship and the only thing we can judge you from are your grades... " so how? how else would they want to judge.
ntuman 2 years ago 16
I think u are talking abt govt-owned companies, not private. They learnt from the bad egs of PAP.
In other countries, your progess in job is determined by your talent/experience. But under PAP, if you are not from gifted stream with overseas scholarship, you have an artificial glass ceiling which you can never climb up no matter how talented you are. Your promotion goes to the scholars even if u are better.
Why u like such a system? U prefer to be judged your WHOLE life based on your A-levels?
wendyneo 2 years ago
no disrespect to them wendy. they are professionals and deserves to be considered. but election is like a popularity contest. people just go with the flow with whoever's charismatic or outspoken. its not a good gauge of their policy making ability.
the selection criteria may not be the best. at least we know they are kept long enough to be trained for the post. scrutinized as they move a long.
ntuman 2 years ago 6
1st, election is like a popularity contest only in Singapore! A fake democracy where politicians can only rally for 9 days, where the media censors and ban political speeches etc.
wendyneo 2 years ago
2nd, what's wrong with popularity, charisma, or being outspoken? They are ESSENTIAL abilities of a politician! Policy-making is the job of the civil servants aka perm secs, not politicians!!! Politicians are there to *choose* a policy from among the many *made* by the perm secs. And this ability to *choose* comes from the ability to connect with the people - charisma, popularity, outspoken.
wendyneo 2 years ago
PAP's selection criteria is rubbish. The concept of training a politician is rubbish! We are not digits or guinea pigs. Why should we be selected - based on our PSLE, O/A-levels - into a designated role for the rest of our live and be trained for that post be it engineering, or politics! Why are you supporting SOCIAL-ENGINEERING?
In real democracy, politicians are not unwilling top students that need to be trained for years. These countries did better than Sg. Think about it!
wendyneo 2 years ago
so personally who do you have in mind that fits the bill of a charismatic and outspoken candidate?
ntuman 2 years ago 3
I have listed one whole list of capable politicians. Singapore has never lacked politicians who are capable and charismatic and outspoken and can lead Singapore. We can start with Lim Chin Siong: watch?v=gCGLaiKFaX8&fmt=18
and go all the way to Chee Soon Juan.
The only problem: LKY does not believe in the free market! He want to pick politicians instead of allowing them to come out freely! And those he pick, they are not interested and so have to be bribed with high salary.

Greater Immortals preordained the result.

i just love this video.
it shows us the truth.
it shows us everthing.
sgcitizen, instead of arguing on the points in the video, you have chosen to launch a support-PAP session here on free youtube. (cannot argue rite?)
Dun call yourself a citizen of the Republic of Singapore if you have done nothing for the advancement of the citizenry, and nothing that a citizen of a democratic country is supposed to do.
sgcommoner 2 years ago
To sgcitizen,
Wendy is correct .
Verna14 2 years ago
well, I wasn't arguing or trying to make a point if I am clever or not, I am just stressing that although media is a good way of tracking, it should also be responsible for their reportings.
look at 陳幸妤, she can't even live a normal life and work normally with all the media around her. even people in the media made fun of her. I believe unless we have a mature media, who would play a responsible role ... I would not agree to such terms.
sgcitizen 2 years ago 3
No, sgcitizen, you are not "just stressing". You are trying to turn every good thing (that Singapore should have but which PAP refuse to have), into bad thing by highlighting rare, extreme negative examples, as if these egs can obliterate the vast benefits of those things. You did that for "peaceful assembly" previously. And now you are doing it again, for "free media".
Whether you have a hidden agenda for *consistently* doing so or not, that I leave it to you to ask yourself :)
wendyneo 2 years ago
well, we must not only focus on the pros, but have to highlight the cons as well to have a mature discussion on the issue we have here.
do we really want to list out all the best bits about "free media" and forget about the problems that might occur? that I leave to everybody to decide.
sgcitizen 2 years ago 5
well said.

hi wendy. if today you were PM. how would you run our country? we'd like you to share your tots on this.
ntuman 2 years ago 3
Good Qn. And I have good answers for them too :)
Watch this video: watch?v=nP_fas_XueU
The answers are on the second frame. And don't say we do not have the money for that - we do! Just that PAP has channeled it to GIC/Temasek for Lee to lose to western banks! Also, our foreign reserves are way too huge compared to our spending. It's like how NKF has $600 million reserves and yet subsidise patient for only $0.01 (No mistake: $0.01!!).

Without open media, we can only talk on youtube.
sgcommoner 2 years ago
why are you arguing for someone who is accountable for something done wrong?
sgcommoner 2 years ago
Yes I agree with Wendy. I wanna make an example. I just took an ethic class in USA and we discussed about social security. Yes there might be lazy people that abused the system, but that is not a reason to deny all Americans the benefit of it (like what lky always stress, that's bullshit). You are just like the pap, stressing on the negative part, blah blah blah as excuses to deny Singaporeans the fundamental freedom that we are supposed to have.
hotshibuya 2 years ago
Yea look at what USA did with their fundamental freedom. They scewed up the world economy with their "borrow more than you have" mentality. WOHOO!!
jules668 2 years ago 7
jules668,
This is what USA did with its fundamental freedom: kick out a president who started an unnecessary war and who did a mess to the economy. They saved the world by voting in an anti-war president who is making economic changes.
Without such fundamental freedom, you are stuck with PAP even after it has lost 100 billion of YOUR money. Is this what you prefer?
wendyneo 2 years ago
"borrow more than you have" is capitalism gone wrong. It has NOTHING to do with fundamental freedom which is about democracy, free speech /media /assembly. I am disgusted by your attempt to confuse the two.

well, the issue I wanted to introduce was ... playing 'spin doctors' is a very dangerous and misleading technique.
I would say that I'm a supporter of 'good governance'.
sgcitizen 3 years ago 3
You are not "introducing" an issue, you are simply accusing me of playing "spin doctor". So just say it out! Don't need to hide behind pretentious words like "introduce". That's fake politeness.
But what have I spun? The quotes are all directly from PAP, word for word. The rally's shouting are per all normal rallies. So I see no spinning. You are employing a very dangerous and misleading techniques by hurling accusations with no evidence.
wendyneo 3 years ago
'Good governance' comes from having check and balance in the form of an effective opposition. Thus you would support political parties that advocate for free media/speech/assembly and fair election, all of which are essential to nurture the emergence of an effective opposition. Moreover, you would be against political parties that advocate dictatorship and 141st-ranked govt-controlled media and ISD.
Would you? Of course not! So pls lah, what supporter of "gd governance"? Who r u kidding? lol
wendyneo 3 years ago
I never did mention good governance comes from where or from which party did I? I just mentioned that I'm a supporter for 'good governance'.
look at taiwan and 陳幸妤 ... is that the kind of free media we want? the poor girl got so stressed out.
btw, are you suggesting that mic1838 = to wendyneo = to you? I never did said that you are playing 'spin doctor' did I?
sgcitizen 3 years ago
Yes, sgcitizen, look at taiwan, thanks to its free media exerting pressure on the govt, Chen Shui Bian's corruption is not only exposed, but he is now jailed!
Is that the kind of free media we want? Yes!
Is that the kind of free media we *need*? Yes!
But no, instead of giving praise to the tremendous good that taiwan's free media has produced, you chose to focus (deliberately or otherwise) on this still-maturing media's bad pt. That has been your style, whether it's abt protest or media :(
wendyneo 3 years ago
but must the media also impose stress on his family members? I think it's too much.
sgcitizen 3 years ago

The money is as good as his!

wendyneo 3 years ago
Secondly, I don't remember having labeled you a brigade member, but if I were to do that to anybody, it's never due to anybody not giving positive comments on my video. Instead, in your case, it will be because of your nonsense of coming up with wild accusations and then refusing to back it up when I challenge you to. And now you are doing it again - anyhow accusing me of labeling you for not giving positive comments on my video. I suggest u quit nonsensical accusations that you can't back up
wendyneo 3 years ago
I am not from SDP. You should quit linking me to them. If you want to talk to them, you can go their website. I don't know what nonsense you mean by "give others a chance to have their say without having to justify their doings". All I know is I am sick of you having your say in wild accusations, while refusing to back it up with evidence, after i challenge you to! Eg. your insistence that protest will cause investors to leave sg but not in the case of other countries - no evidence sg is unique!
wendyneo 3 years ago
well, if you search through our conversation through your videos, u did mentioned that to me.
sgcitizen 3 years ago
> I am not from any of your "e.g.". I'm an average singaporean.
Then you should enlighten me why you are supporting an elitist system when you are not an elite and is therefore destined to suffer under such a system. Eg. if you are really an average sg, you will be paying a 1st-world living cost and ministerial salaries, yet receiving a wage that is more 3rd-world than 1st. Why you like that?
wendyneo 3 years ago
where in my statements suggested to you that I am a supporter of an 'elitist system'?
I am generally very happy as I am being a Singaporean, isn't that a good enough reason for me to be to be contented?
sgcitizen 3 years ago 2
sgcitizen, that you are very happy and contented living in an elitist system is itself a suggestion that you support such a system, for if you do not support it, why are you very happy and contented living in it?
btw, I am also very happy to be a Singaporean. I am just very unhappy to be a Singaporean under PAP's elitist system. lol
