Arguably, humans do cause this to happen, because of the genetic sequencing we pass on.

The heart isn't formed, and THEN begins beating. First heart cells form, which beat with a biological charge from the very first one. Its similar to a epileptic seizure moving across a brain, except different organ.

For me, one key thing about the whole "if god exists and I didn't believe" gambit (Pascal's Wager) is that it could apply to an infinite number of made-up things.

Not believing in psychics, alchemy, etc.  might mean I lose out on many things.

And as for losing everything: Not believing in any of the other gods people talk about (and choosing to believe in the Christian god instead) might mean I "lose everything" with some other god.
