He said he beheaded his wife in “self-defense”! And he started his TV show to counter negative stereotypes of Muslims in America? Beheading his wife will only reinforce those (correct) stereotypes! And of course being Muslim had a lot to do with this murder & beheading. The Islamic culture this guy comes from doesn't allow women to divorce their husbands, & looks the other way when men murder their female clan members. Beheading is also a typical Muslim "punishment", not found in U.S. culture!

Given the problem as a whole, the number represented by Sikhs are a joke. I know of dowry murders by Indians, but honor killings is simply not a problem. Many Indians are Muslims, though. It is largely, almost exclusively, a Muslim problem. We don't solve this problem by focusing all our energies on the isolated incidents found in other cultures. The Muslims that DO commit honor killings all say that they are compelled by Islam to do so. You can't ignore this.

A problem does exist. But only 5 cases are reported to have happened in the US while in 1 year over 21,000 women were murdered by their spous or partners by non muslims. I hope you see my point. I am like you i wish this world can be perfect. I know we can all work together to get their.

Yes, of course, any murderer should be punished. The problem with honor killing, though, is that girls raised in these cultures are treated like such slaves, such property from the day they're born. For each one killed, there are innumerable others that live in endless misery. If a husband in the US kills his wife, it's a terrible tragedy, but at least she didn't live her life as a slave. I don't know of any Americans beheading their wives, either. Beheading is much more brutal than a gun.

In Islamic law he is to be executed. Also Islam came about when Infanticide Act was a normal cultural practice of pagans and Jews as well as Christians. Prophet Mohammed single handedly put a stop to that or at the least made it prohibited.

BTW other cultures that conduct honor killings are Sikhs, Hindus & many Asian countries. Thats enough evidence to show this is certainly a real issue but a cultural issue.

I don't know how one could conclude that the American media "never ever" acknowledges crimes against women when committed by non-Muslims. When Christian televangelist hucksters had affairs (which is blatantly unChristian) they got slammed for their hypocrisy. The same with annoying politicians who lecture us on morality. Imagine a Christianity PR man killing his wife and bragging about it. That wouldn't be alarming enough to warrant serious attention? As it was, this story was hardly covered.

You're right! Brigitte eludes to that in this video. Honor killings are frequent amongst Muslims. But you have to remember that this guy started a TV network to clean-up the image of Islam. Then he goes and does one of the things that make Islam look bad, so there is some irony behind this headline. Now it seems like he only started this station to deceive the American public.

He killed her with a scimitar. That's a symbolic implement, no? He could've used many means to kill. In SA, Arab countries in general, and other non-Arab Muslim countries, this type of sword is a symbol of Islam (notice how many "talwar" statues at roundabouts all over Pakistan). SA has a traditional dance with the scimitar. And also, the Qur'an is used to justify domestic abuse (which is much higher in Muslim countries than the US) and he would a wife abuser. Coincidence?

Sometimes religion is involved (you'll notice that Westerners generally feel it's good to separate religion from politics!) and also culture. And the two often collude. Most of all, patriarchy, social stratification and differentiation. Basic sociology, it's no big mystery. Domestic abuse is very well- documented in the West, as is rape and other crimes against women generally more than in Muslim countries. I don't know how you conclude how there is some cover up going on!

Strange how it's a 'cultural' custom only carried out by Muslim cultures. Name one other, buddy. There isn't one. Get your head out of the clouds. Have you ever seen a beheading? It doesn't usually happen in one fell swoop, like a guillotine. No. It takes sawing back and forth with arteries pulsing and sprouting blood everywhere.
