  • @JasonLee543 Also, if it can emulate (note - I said EMULATE) Sega Genesis, then why GBA would be less powerful than the OutRun arcade machine?

  • @xan1242

are (were) you saying Game Boy Advance could

emulate Genesis/MD sounds like you're mistaken?

GBA was less powerful than Out Run arcade game

since Out Run had (has) 2 x 68000 CPU 12.5 MHz

GBA had (has) a weaker 17 MHz CPU ARM7TDMI

    Out Run 320 x 224 pixels vs GBA 240 x 160 pixels

Game Boy Advance weaker Dual 8-bit stereo sound

Out Run arcade audio chips YM2151 + PCM 15 kHz

  • @xan1242

Game Boy Advance didn't have the Zilog Z80 microprecessor

no surprise 32-bit version of Out Run on GBA sounded inferior

compared to Out Run on Sega Mega Drive and/or Sega Saturn

  • @JasonLee543 Yeah, but clock speeds do not matter - the GBA's CPU is 32 bit, while the x68k is 16-bit.

  • @xan1242

you haven't shown what aspect made Game Boy Advance

more powerful than the 1986 Out Run arcade original game

  • damn that looks better than i thought it would!

  • @jr2nd does it exist commerically though?

  • @jr2nd The GBA is more powerful than the original arcade game

  • @ojideagu if that was so and this is a real version then it should be BETTER it isnt

  • @jr2nd The screen resolution is less on the GBA screen that's why it can't look better.

  • @jr2nd Look up V-Rally 3 3D on the GBA. This Sega hardware could never do that game.

  • @ojideagu i just did out of curiosity.. and your wrong go look up current sega hardware or even 1999 hardware and you'll see it is, unless your refering to the outrun engine of 1986 against a game made in 2002? which you cant really do.. besides did you look at v-rally 3 for the gba? its basically a sprite not even a real 3d car model, plus there was no V-Rally 3 in the arcade im sure it would be as better or equal to the ps2 port if there was.

  • @jr2nd Wrong, V-rally is 90% 3D texture mapped, only the Car is not. I'm talking about 1986 hardware, the Outrun arcade machine. You claimed that arcade was more powerful than the GBA. Well the V-Rally 3D is a texture mapped 3D engine that no Sega Hardware could do in 1986.

  • @jr2nd The GBA uses an advanced arm 32bit processor. The Sega 1986 hardware would not be able to Run V-rally 3D.

  • @ojideagu thats what i said the CAR is a sprite not a real 3d model.. but anyway you cant compare a 1986 12mhz engine to a 2001 16mhz hand held console due to the better technology involved, thats like comparing a spectrum 48k to an amiga 1200.. no where did i say 1986 hardware was better? i said IF sega released v-rally 3 arcade in 2002 then the hardware would be better obviously.

  • @jr2nd The car is a minor issue, everything else is 3D and texture mapped. Still way beyond 1986 Sega arcades. I was comparing it because you were making out the GBA should not be able to do Outrun.

  • @ojideagu try re-reading what my original comment was.. it didnt say it couldnt, i was amazed it could... also amazing how bloody hard it is to get looking at ebay+amazon -.-

  • @jr2nd You can buy a flash card and just flash the roms instead for free! That's all I did when I had a GBA, never bought a game.

  • @jr2nd Anyway I'm not critisising old hardware as this was powerful in its day, I grew up in this era and love retro games that I played as a kid

  • Pretty good for the GBA. I remember when I had it - 4 SEGA classic games on one cartridge. Afterburner was on it too.

  • @tubumu The GBA is more powerful than the original arcade, so it should be able to run those old sega games easily

  • wow, the music sounds amazing just for a GBA port

  • こんなもんが出てたんすか・・・・なんで日本には出なかったんだ・・・(´・ω・`)

  • The Very First Portable Outrun Game Is In The SEGA Game Gear. But GBA Is Cool To!!!!!!!!!!!Magic Sound Shower Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gameboy advance is a very powerful system. The music on it matches every arcade game that plays on it. The processor is pretty powerful. I read that sprite count for gba is over 4,000 sprites! Thats alot of sprites!!

  • i am playing this game on mame32 xD it rocks!!!

  • Excellent music still. Can't deny that. Magical Sound Shower is one of the best video game songs of all time.

  • amen to that!

  • Sega racing games have the best music.

  • @Purianite This man speaks the truth. MAGICAL SOUND SHOWER FOREVUR!

  • Amen. I might need to do a remix/arrange of my own.

  • Music's pretty rockin'.

  • The GBA version is a decent rendition of OutRun, but not as good as SEGA's original super-scaler arcade game (1986) or the following arcade-quality ports:

    *Saturn (Sega Ages 1996, 1997)

    *Dreamcast

(Shenmue II, Yu Suzuki Game Works Vol 1)

    * Xbox (Shenmue II, unlockable in OutRun2)

  • I hear there was an arcade perfect converion for the Sega Saturn. I never got my hands on it. :(

  • @RareAspie On the Sega Ages disc that also has After Burner II and Space Harrier

  • @RareAspie i still got it. i got the japanese import version, as that one has also remixes of the outrun musics. i still play this game once in a while. it took 10 years before outrun (1986) became arcade perfect at home on the saturn (1996). thanks sega, better late than never :-)

  • looks like a pretty good port

  • Your doing it wrong.

  • Pretty close version of the coin-op for the GBA.Although it's missing some trackside objects to retain speed.

  • ugh stil no good port of this game, maybe the saturn one but be patient,i tought there was also one in shenmue.

  • well being on a GBA this is allot closer to the real outrun arcade them most other consoles got to the arcade.

you must be forgetting that this is running on a GBA.

  • i prefer the genesis one older bigger better.this is okay but the sound is muffled and the graphics are bit charp edged and so GBA is almost fully 32 bit console running on like 16mhz and they could have done a perfect job still fun to have i must admit this isnt that worse.

  • I like the GBA version (Sega Arcade Gallery) a lot better, mainly because the sprite graphics had a scaling effect, not just a sprite swap when the images came closer to your face.

The only problems I have with it is that the music sounds like a shitty MIDI track, and the colors seem a bit faded to.

I downloaded the GBA rom just to play OutRun, and I was disappointed that the game would freeze upon finishing a race. D:

  • The music for this console version is pretty good actually.

  • Meh... I guess nothing beats the arcade...

  • @Nintendavin uh.... this IS the GBA version :-D hahahahaha.

  • @musicmaniac1965 Yes I was aware of that.

  • 32 bit console with a small resolution

  • this version may look better, i can't recal but could have been done better.i've got the saturn version (arcade perfect) love it.

  • @aryinc not that strange, as the saturn was developped with sprite scaling in mind. the gba is not from sega, en nintendo have superb games of their own, but they never did sprite scaling like sega did. still, the snes had some cool mode 7 effects too :-D

  • well same that the sega saturn is a bit more powefull then the gba.the gba is like a genesis and snes combined.i don't see gba as atrue 32 bitter.

  • @aryinc indeed, i don't see the gba as a 32 bit hand held :-D but i felt this conversion turned out reasonably, especially considering it's just a hand held.

  • defnitly .nomad version is better only a nomad ain't that great for a handheld.then let's say genesis version.saturn version rules the japanese one i mean.

  • @aryinc indeed. i have the japanese saturn version of OutRun. as a matter of fact, i only bought the saturn after hearing that game would get released on it ;-D LOL.

  • that and the saturn has allot more to offer.i like the system very much.i've got a load of games on it from need for speed to street fighter vs xmen really awesome.i also had it modded so it could play anything any regio and 60hz.i love them 2d games on the system they're like no other.

  • @aryinc so if i would mod my pal saturn, i could play outrun on 60 HZ instead of 50 ? now that would be great !

  • yess i bought a modded saturn from consolepassion. i think i couldn't fix that job myself the fully modding, since saturn is alittle bit more difficult then sega genesis, wich i also have fully modded.genesis is doable i can give you the info aoutthat but saturn,no way i'm starting that.

  • @aryinc well, maybe i will go search for a modded saturn, but i won't try modding it myself, as i don't have a spare one. but thanks for the info.

  • Am I the only one here who noticed the "Get Ready" vox was borrowed from Space Harrier?

  • It was also in After Burner.

  • Was it? Oh well, it's just a GBA cartridge, they probably used it to save space.

  • I never got that GBA cartridge (though I'd still buy it if I saw it for the near arcade-perfect versions of the games), I just meant that several Sega arcade games from the mid-through-late 1980's used the exact same "GET READY" digitized voice effect.

I guess they thought it wasn't worth re-recording it for each individual game.

  • No, the Outrun "Get Ready" had an upward inflection at the end as opposed to the Space Harrier "Get Ready".

    Eh, whatever, both games rule.

  • How did you record the video output from the GBA? Did you use something like the Gameboy Player for Gamecube, or is this being run through an emulator?

  • Probably VisualBoyAdvance (emulator).

  • I had no idea about this. What a superb conversion, I love the way it sounds too ^^

  • Your english amazing not very gay hi i eated hamburger friend. feel hapiness.

  • Not everyone in the world speaks English as a first language.

  • このアップロードありがとう。

    セガのゲームはとくに面白い。

  • Not a bad port. Bit easy.

  • yeah, too easy. THQ ports of sega games aren't bad, but way too easy: crazy taxi, sega arcade gallery, jet grind radio ...

  • wait, they made a Jet Grind Radio for the GBA?

  • sure! i don't have it but played a few times, do not expect 3d, graphics are like the tony hawks for the gba

also virtua tennis, crazy taxi, super monkey ball and a few more
