  • Allan Reed! He's the man

  • "Just relax"- lol!

  • This spin was conducted during the testing phase of the 45 and coming out of the spin had nothing to do with density of the atmosphere lol The 45 is difficult to spin as it is, and it's my understanding the aircraft required specific equipment to get it to spin and the parachute was used to get it out of the spin. I fly the 45C on a daily basis and certainly glad it doesn't easily enter into the spin regime.

  • I want to be a Test Pilot : )

  • Man, what a chicken. Don't these new jacks learn the history of fighter spin testing? Most fighters and high performance jets will not come out until they travel to the more dense atmosphere. Proper preflight would have shown what altitude that was on the particular day.

  • @imnazhole

It doesn't necessarily matter what 'dense atmosphere' the jet needs to recover. The manual says that if you're still out of control and passing through 10,000' AGL, you eject.

Any pilot who doesn't not only risks death, but losing his wings. I leave it to you to decide which is worse.

  • @0:58 passed out from the G-forces. Lot's of repect for him.

  • yep, definitely a Goshawk

  • Balls of steel and nicely done, would have got my heart rate up more than that

  • Wow that's like being on a really fast roundabout while experiencing negative Gs!!

  • The Pilots name is Alan Reed I was on that flight test program.

  • McDonnell Douglas test pilot in T-45A. Pilot earned SETP Ivan B. Kinchloe award that year for his skills.

  • i remember seeing a similure vid and the pilot instructor couldnt recover and tried to eject but it failed and had to pull a switch to jet the canopy off and the force of the blast straightened it out.

  • I remember that one, was it a T-3. i remember it saying when thay landed the wing spar was bent!

  • Thats unbelievable.

  • pretty sure thats a T-45.....in case anyone cares....rah

  • ok. you're looking at the video writing I see that now.

  • thats not a F4 Phantom, its a T-45 Goshawk used by the Navy, replaced the Skyhawk and Buckeye

  • ahh, so i bet it has more aerobatics

  • man i was getting dizzy and scared watching that good job lol i recon i would of packed my dacks in the first 4 seconds and im not afraid to say that though by the sound of his voice i think he beat me to it :)

  • Not many pilots, who came out of it with a F-4. I recovered out of a spin, too. For my opinion, the spin recovery procedure is worth a s...

    ..stick maintain - full forward

does not help anymore, when the nose is down. The elevator is like a speedbrake and airflow will not allow the jet to accelerate

Finally putting the stick neutral brought me out within 1 turn. The remaining flight back to base was really calm in the cockpit ;-)

    Many happy landings, Cobra

  • balls of steel man he was sort of freaking out by the tone of his voice but didnt bail! the negative g forces alone would have been too much for me

  • I know there's a lot of history to that. It shows his style. That video is priceless.

  • he wouldnt be a test pilot if he couldnt maintain a level head in an inverted spin test.

  • jezus fuck. That looks freaking scary to me :o
