Actually thats not entirely correct cuz! Poropeihana was composed after Sir Apirana Ngata set up a legislation to allow Maori (especially in the Ngatii Porou areas) to purchase land and loans for land to farm. Once this was up and running, he introduced a prohibition typed scheme, that enabled Maori farming families from entering the pub or drink alcohol. This was done to ensure loans for land were being paid.
Poropeihana ... was composed about the introduction of a parliamentary bill on the prohibition of alcohol ... Such protestation by the people was a sign that they had grown tired of colonial laws and an expression of continuing their quest for tino rangatiratanga (self determination) in relation to Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi) and their rights as Indigenous people of the land."

lol, you feel strongly about your ignorant early american philosophy, don't you? if you had the chance, you would have probably forced the Native American "savages" to wear proper underwear or would have substituted yourself in McKinley's position to pursue the annexation of the Philippines just to "educate" and "liberate your little brown brothers", right? I do urge you to take your primitive mind and educate yourself with more recent textbooks, my ignorant friend.
