BUT!!! i just went on a cruise this summer on Carnival Paridise with my brother and we went to Catalina and Ensenada and while in mexico lol we bought a bubbler and some weed from the lady that sold us the bubbler lol and we sunk the stuff back on board and i gotta tell ya bro, we were then the life of the party per say lol. all the girls and dudes that i met were like "whoa you guys have balls! how did you get by customs?" continued on next comment

@pugwashsecond I can imagine!! I went on a cruise to Hawaii in september on Golden Princess. For a ship 8 years old I was impressed. Spotless inside and good ammenities but again looked like a giant white brick from the outside!! One night at a meal we got talking to some people about liners, and I said that I thought all modern ships were ugly and you should have seen the horrified looks I got! Most people dont appreciate the classic beauty of the liners from the early 1900's.

@pugwashsecond I have been on the Queen Mary at long beach, and she is stunning, hasnt lost any of her grace and looks. A true classic, and the yanks have done a great job of looking after her!! I so wish we had kept a Liner for a museum. I would have liked to walk round the original Aquitania. A legend of a ship, served as a troopship in two world wars and was sent to scrap!!! A Tragedy.

Oasis is more of a fun cruise while QM2 is more about class and sophistication. Notice how most of the people in this ad are around 40-50 and that there are no children.

QM2 is more than twice the tonnage of QE2 and incredibly spacious. She has a feel of a grand ocean liner w/multi-deck public rooms, high ceilings and grand wide stairwells. QE2 was 'it' in the 1970s and 80s but this ship blows her out of the water w/luxury and comfort QE2 could'nt match. QE2 was faster and more beautiful externally but internally not much to look at.

It's wide and wraps completely around the ship (under the lifeboats) and is glassed-in towards the bow for wind and spray protection while sailing at 26 knots. Also QM2 has forward facing cabins and public rooms that QE2 did'nt have-after the old 'Lookout' Bar was removed in 1972.

She is (like QE2) a combination cruise ship/ocean liner. She is capable of 30 knots and can handle anything the North Atlantic throws at her. Most cruise ships would be forced to slow down in rough weather while QM2 can keep to schedule. She is a modern day ocean liner.

err... i think this is like the most beautiful ship ive ever seen. Its tall elegant and curvy with a unique bow. Its freaking breathtaking when you pull up to the port and the people on the sun deck look tiny because of the height. This is the only true ocean liner out there besides the queen elizabeth 2. I really love ships and i think that the queen victoria is a scar on the face of cunard. This is in no way a cruise ship, its not family orientated, but based on class and elegance.

She is an ocean liner - it is an aspect of design, not appearance or even use. But I agree that Carnival have spoiled Cunard, especially with their new ships Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth. They will be the first ever Cunard Queens a) not to be ocean liners, b) not to be launched as a Cunard flagship, c) not to bear the prefix RMS, and d) not the be the world's biggest passenger ship at time of launch. They are mass-produced cruise ships, unworthy of the Queen name or of Cunard ownership.

I think my previous coment about the QM2 was somewhat inacurate, I now believe after some research that she is a proper ocean liner and much better looking than my first impression of her (still dont like the balconys though) , i still think and agree with you that the carnival ownership is spoiling cunards heritige. The QV and the planned 2010 queen elizabeth sister ship dont deserve to bare the cunard name and are lets face it with all those balconys their not exactly beautiful are they.

I agree there - hundreds of balconies spoils the appearance of the majority of large passenger ships. I prefered the QE2, that had miles of promenade decks instead - you could wander around her for ages. (There's actually a part of the QE2, just behind the bridge, where you can see several private balconies, added during a refit. They're quite discreet, but still look dreadful.) The only promenade decks QM2 has are a couple of strips underneath the lifeboats, and the space on the very top.
