I bought mine in November of 09 and have been very happy with it ever since. I too didn't exactly think it looked all that great but the look has grown on me. The longer I have it the better it looks to me. In my opinion this is the best middle weight bike that I have ever ridden and I have ridden a lot of them in the past 36yrs. Oh and by the way I live in America. This thing is a blast.
Lots of comments one way or the other here. Truth is these are all pretty good bikes. I've owned a number of 600's, the monster 696 and now currently the street triple. As far as nakid bikes go, the street triple is an excellent choice. Is it the best? Matter of opinion. It is faster than you need on the street. The 696 was probably the friendliest bike I have ridden. Great choice. Never ridden an Aprilia. My triple has been my favorite so far.
For everyone who says tha mcn is biased against triumph street triple just look for other magazines all over europe. Personally, i've searched a lot and in every single comparison street triple wins. So suck it up and stop crying around because a 675 can beat your ass!
i don't think they are biased, researching these bikes and the street triple seems to be a winner with everyone....could it be it is the most fun to ride....
MCN should have more sequences shot from another vehicle. It'd make the videos more interesting to watch. Cant really see much when the bike just swooshes by.
LOL! People complain that the Triumph has won because it is British and claims that MCN are being biased.. can you really say that? Honestly? The striple is SUCH a good bike you can't even compare it to bikes of the same engine size! Go to the 800s and they can't even beat it ahaha. What's wrong with the Monster 696? Ah wait, no comparison.
@VTolDL1000 LOL! I own a 07 fz6 an 09 street triple. The fz6 is just plain slow when side to side. Not to mention that even with the stock suspension set up the street destroys it in the corners.
@HibridOPT I am in accord wirh you, but Triumph have presented the new street triple 2011, it lokes mutch better!! and it manteind the same tecnical caracteristics. Now it's probably the best bike!!
The easiest way to solve this "national bias" issue is for American's to do more bike reviews because at least we'd know they weren't biased because they can't be due to the fact that all their bikes are shit and wouldn't even feature, as in this video.
The british bomb bike..ahaha, come on give us a break here..as i can see lotta people noticed that mcn forget about reality when there's a british product in the comparison..
pretty funny how you guys emphasize "the most powerful bike" describing the street triple when it has less than one horse power more than the fz8 and just one more than the kawa. Pretty sad
@Vanzemaljac11 They both go faster than you ever need to go. Any naked bike isn't going to be very comfortable for very long over 70 mph anyway. Top speed just isn't an issue for that type of bike.
lol, the Z750 comes out last because it starts to show its age. Perhaps MCN forgot the Street Triple came out in the very same year (2007) as the Z750.
@VTolDL1000 I gotta agree, Europeans in general are snobs (yup IM shoving the brits in their too) and regardless whatever they have is the best, it gets old in a hurry. but whatever.
@VTolDL1000 Then I guess the fact that moto-usa loves the street triple must be because the US is a colony, right? The Street Triple, and even more so the Street Triple R, is a fantastic bike. The Triple makes the same power as the new Monster 1100 at a significantly lower price and displacement with, in my opinion, better styling. Out of this group I would say the only competition for the Triumph is the FZ8. Though I'd still go with a Triple R. (Note: I'm not British)
Can,t comment Honda Quack etc. But the FZ8 my son gave me a ride on his. Dry day tires warmed up. Nice seating positon plenty of torque good brakes. But give it the message on a fast very very slightly bumpy corner. It shakes its head like a Jack Russell with a rat in its mouth.
All you Americans that think MCN is favouring the British manufacturer are full of bull. You're just jealous because the British build faster lawn mowers that the motorcycles built by the American motorcycle industry. Before you spout any more crap, go test ride one and then come back with a valid opinion.
@odracirseraoseia1999 I trully believe the Street is an awesome ride, becuase it's not just MCN crwoning it, many other bike magazines put the Street on top of the middleweight naked segment.
But I agree with the bias. They make it sound as if nothing can get close to the almighty Triumph.
Personally I think these reviews are only meant to be taken into consideration when making your own decision. Your personal opinion on what you demand from a bike is what matters most. Different people have different needs and demands from their motorcycle, thus their opinion. My Street Triple R has reminded me of why I love riding in the first place.
oohh what do we all sound jealous here against the brits...èwell to be honest , i've read many reviews about these aswell ..most of time the triple and the hornet both came out as the best out there in this segment for this price.
Although all bikes have their problems , any rider will admit this street triple is one of the best in it's class. I personally prefer the honda hornet for the finishing touch and quality instruments ..but will enjoy any ride with a triple aswell!
Brits always pick their brands. For instance 5th gear or TopGear...they always pick LandRover, Lotus, Aston Martin, etc for being the most beautiful, most reliable or most powreful... even if its Not, in most cases. Now i didn't ride a Triumph... but its british so its for sure under the japs :)
@Stanescul ok ..then tell me ..what's better then a land rover in it's class?! None ...
What's better then a Lotus in it's class?..none , since there aren't any other competitors ...
Aston Martin..euhm they really are the best in quality etc for what they bring and believe me or not , but they drive brilliantly and are very reliable , although i'd prefer a mercedes amg..and actually Jeremy aswell..just watch their episodes of the sl and amg's...and you'll see they all 3 have one!
@Stanescul not true. it just appeals to a different rider. i have ridden most 600 class sport bikes and i have to say that i like the triumphs exhaust note and street fighter styling. to me the downside to it is wind protection mainly because i do a lot of highway riding, but it has loads of low and midrange torque that could beat any jap 600 off the line.
No, I don't agree, MCN in contrast to Fast Bikes, is ok, is neutral enough. The fact that the ST is a brilliant bike has been agreed upon by everybody: CycleWorld US, Motociclismo IT, motorvision GER, Motorrad GER, La Moto ESP, Motociclismo ESP, Bike UK, MotorsTV EUR...
IF ONLY THE STREET TRIPLE WEREN`T SO AGGRESSIVELY, MERCY-LESSLY , IMPUNELY UUUUUGGGGLLLLLYYYY!!!!!!!
@alernest Its all a matter of opinion as to whether its a good looking bike, took one for a test ride last week and turned heads everywhere I went and numerous other riders on Jap bikes commented "nice". Regardless of the looks the climbing RPM is as most reviews state serviously addictive!
The StreetTriple is an amazing bike and way better than those 2 Italian shitboxes put against it. FZ8? Too much coin for it's performance. The Kaw? It's a Kaw... need I say more?
These moto magazine are horrid.. who actually reads this? All of these reviews are so generic and filled with the same old crap that I can't even watch this.
Thanks guys... I am moving down to a middleweight bike, and this just does more to confirm my decision. It's back to Triumph for me! :) Is there a reason you didn't compare the R version of the Striple with the others?
I want to buy a Triumph ST, but in Brazil its almost impossible. I live 1.500 km from the nearest (and only) Triumph dealer. Maintenance would be hell.
reviews seem very unbalanced. At least inform viewers beforehand that you pick bikes before even riding them! Or just dont talk and let the bikes run while we judge.
so where can i find the rest of this review? i went to MCN website and got an account but cant find this comparo! I know the Triumph wins but I want to know the characteristics of all the bikes in this comparo! someone let me know please!
Fact is, that the Street Triple is the best naked bike in this segment (naked 600-800cc). That might be my objectiv feeling, but everyone I know, that has driven a ST has said that.
I've driven all the bikes in this test except the Shiver and the Triumph is just better to drive than the others.. The concept of 3 zylinders is just perfect, that's why i own one now.
All this video was good for was hearing which one sounds better. I don't think anyone can deny it is the Ducati. Go ahead, listen to all of the other bikes again, then watch from 2:10... No contest. I'll take my 796 in red thank you.
So the reviewers have had it wrong for all these years in Masterbike and Supertest, International Bike of the Year etc etc forgot to tow the line that Triumphs arenn;t the best in any category? Nice troll VT
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about here. The street triple has proved itself over and over again, because it is BETTER, Just watch all the videos from france, the states etc... of people saying it's the best bike they've ever owned (along with the speed triple)... It's not because it's british, it's just that good. However, should you happen to be british and like bikes it's a small piece of icing on the cake, because britain aren't exactly famous for manufacturing or exports anymore...
...... also the fact they won't go out of fashion and depreciate faster than you can say "(insert short word here)" appeals to me a lot. I have been looking at all of these bikes, weighing up with whom I want to spend my small dollah and i'm happy to say that my cash 'ent leaving these shores, as I want the bike with the best engine, suspension, brakes, and the striple wins hands down... If it breaks down, which I doubt these days, warranty will cover it. Pick mine up 11th june :) Yeehaa
i own a Shiver and love it. I had the chance to ride a Street Triple the other day.. wow. The sound and feel blew me away. I cant justify the change this year but next year for sure.
I must say I never even knew about triumph until many folks started saying good things about it. Now I'm proud to say I own a Street Triple R. Greetings from NYC.
@VTolDL1000 Sorry mate but you're wrong. Go ride them (only one I haven't is the aprillia) and you'll see for yourself.
Based on your logic you could say a British test couldn't let a British product win as it would be biased. IMO that means the Triumph has to prove itself a little more so people can't badmouth the writers.
Why can't some people believe that the Brits can make things as good as anybody when a realistic amount of funding is available? I tested a number of bikes before I picked the one I wanted and that was the street triple.
@VTolDL1000 You need to understand our sad automotive history. The amount of car and motorbike manufacturers that have gone down the drain is ridiculous, we will cling to what's left and choose it over it's rival imports.
As stated by MCN above, this apparently isn't a bias review, but many Brits will still choose the remaining British manufacturers over imports.

About favouring Triumph... The fact that MCN is British is irrelevant. MCN is a commercial entity. We trade on our expertise and reputation, so we don't go around recommending bikes that are inferior due to some nationalistic bias. It would hurt our readers, hurt the industry and hurt us. I was on that test and we spent all day riding all 5 bikes back to back. Everyone agreed that the Triumph was the best overall, that’s all. If you don’t believe us, get a test ride and you will! james
@motorcyclenewsdotcom "MCN is a commercial entity" Oh come on... it wouldn't be the first time a magazine gave a bias towards advertisers who had basically told "say nice things or we are going to pull the advertisement funds"..
May be the better bike, I can't say, but I would agree the best bike overall would be the most appealing.. If a bike has (any) flaws though, it would be nice to know them before spending a wedge of cash
@dv8tion242 of course most of the major manufacturers advertise with us, but they buy ad space, not good reviews. Kawasaki advertise with us more than Triumph, but their bike came last. It's irrelevant.
@dv8tion242 I got a 09 street. Nothing else in the class Ive ridden comes close to it in terms of pure fun. Its not just MCN thats talking up the street, for the past almost four years most publications have been putting the thing in the top spot. Yes, it really is that good.

@motorcyclenewsdotcom Yes, that's all very nice, but you overlook the reliability issues in a very biased way. For you they might not be a top priority, but for your readers, who trust in your "expertise and reputation", it means the world. What's the point of buying a fun bike that's always being fixed, forcing us to spend hefty sums of money?
@motorcyclenewsdotcom Everybody has their favorites...If you added in some numbers, like Wet weight, fuel capacity, ect... (the stuff 99% of people are to lazy to look up on their own) It would improve your videos immensely...

@VTolDL1000 so you are saying you've ridden two bikes that aren't in the test and some how that means you can judge validity of the review? If you had ridden *any* of the bikes involved that might at least be a start.
You aren't just a moron you are the king of morons. I bow to you my liege.
@VTolDL1000 Well i think MCN are abit one sided, they always seem to pick the same bikes as there favourites, and just classify others in the same way each time. For example they always talk about Ducati's and BMW but never give Kawasaki or even Honda a second thought. I dont think the British people are really like that, maybe MCN are just setting a bad example. And Top Gear can do whatever it wants because its a British motoring show, and they make jokes out of being very English! :-)
i have a Street Triple......can you tell as what you read on NON British mags??and plz tell us if you ever ride a Street Triple!.........i was reading all these amazing things about the ST3s and i didn't belive them too!.....until the day i took the test ride bike!....
All I'm hearing a whole lot of "Oh boo hoo, Triumph won a British review again." Are you retarded? The Street Triple has been winning international awards since its first year out, just like the 675. My father bought one a year ago, and it is a ridiculously fun little bike to throw around. Plenty of power to hit 140mph and pull wheelies on demand, and it throws down in the corners effortlessly. Go to a Triumph dealer and take a test ride if you don't believe this review.
@VTolDL1000 Have you ridden a Street Triple? It is a ridiculously easy bike to ride, has enough power to toss wheelies under power at 5,000 RPM, stoppies on demand, and it rails corners like the 675. It's like riding a bicycle with the power of a sportbike. Ridiculously fun little bike. The intake noise and exhaust note are much nastier than most other bikes its size too. I've got an old 955i Speed Triple and a 1098. If I had the extra cash, I'd love a Street Triple R in the garage.
@VTolDL1000 What's bullshit is your assertion that they gave the Triumph the thumbs up in this test because it's British. Maybe it's better than the other three. I very much doubt you've tested these bikes, so you have no point of reference.
How does one bike shows it's age? I mean.. what can be improved on a bike over the years? Z750 is cheaper because of ..the (lackoff) research put into it's performance ?
@nomainreason I think it's a matter of look. Z750 is something "yet seen before", most of japan have this problem, them age fast.
After the radial brakes and the E. injection there hasn't been important innovation in the bikes world. Well, i forgot the adjustable engine mapps but they are pretty much a gadget IMO.
For me still Z750 ;) Looks best and it's build like tank...:) Triumph nice engine but looks like toy compared to Z750...New FZ8 does look like nothing interesting; ducati & arpilia - I'm not interested in twins for a while...
@xrilek Dude, try to be serious, we all know the reputation of the Triumph and ohter manufacturers, we.know what the differences between these machines are. I'm not saying Speed Triple is a bad motorcycle, but it's absolutely true, what VTolDL1000 wrote.

@VTolDL1000 "Everybody knows that Triumphs are not the best motorcycles in any segment..."
That's funny. You should be a journalist because clearly you know something that no one else knows.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about here. The street triple has proved itself over and over again, because it is BETTER, Just watch all the videos from france, the states etc... of people saying it's the best bike they've ever owned (along with the speed triple)... It's not because it's british, it's just that good. However, should you happen to be british and like bikes it's a small piece of icing on the cake, because britain aren't exactly famous for manufacturing or exports anymore...
aliaucky 1 year ago 3
...... also the fact they won't go out of fashion and depreciate faster than you can say "(insert short word here)" appeals to me a lot. Pick mine up 11th june :) Yeehaa

i'm tired of these flippin drive by shots. theyve got a van and camera man..get on the road and follow the riders!

i own a Shiver and love it. I had the chance to ride a Street Triple the other day.. wow. The sound and feel blew me away. I cant justify the change this year but next year for sure.

I must say I never even knew about triumph until many folks started saying good things about it. Now I'm proud to say I own a Street Triple R. Greetings from NYC.
juicerock718 1 year ago
@VTolDL1000 Sorry mate but you're wrong. Go ride them (only one I haven't is the aprillia) and you'll see for yourself.
Based on your logic you could say a British test couldn't let a British product win as it would be biased. IMO that means the Triumph has to prove itself a little more so people can't badmouth the writers.
siraff2 1 year ago

If a bike has (any) flaws though, it would be nice to know them before spending a wedge of cash
dv8tion242 1 year ago 9
@dv8tion242 of course most of the major manufacturers advertise with us, but they buy ad space, not good reviews. Kawasaki advertise with us more than Triumph, but their bike came last. It's irrelevant.

@motorcyclenewsdotcom placing the Zed last because of its age while the Street was introduced the same year. Well done, good show!

What's the point of buying a fun bike that's always being fixed, forcing us to spend hefty sums of money?
odracirseraoseia1999 1 year ago
@motorcyclenewsdotcom Everybody has their favorites...If you added in some numbers, like Wet weight, fuel capacity, ect... (the stuff 99% of people are to lazy to look up on their own) It would improve your videos immensely...

@VTolDL1000 so you are saying you've ridden two bikes that aren't in the test and some how that means you can judge validity of the review? If you had ridden *any* of the bikes involved that might at least be a start.
You aren't just a moron you are the king of morons. I bow to you my liege.

@MostlyLouche Hey pussy, tell us about your experiences with motorcycles, ok? Let's see what your experiences are, douchebag.
And you, guys from MCN - go and take BMW F800 R, compare it to this Triumph. You will see what "class leader" means...
czopeder 1 year ago 4
@VTolDL1000 Well i think MCN are abit one sided, they always seem to pick the same bikes as there favourites, and just classify others in the same way each time. For example they always talk about Ducati's and BMW but never give Kawasaki or even Honda a second thought. I dont think the British people are really like that, maybe MCN are just setting a bad example. And Top Gear can do whatever it wants because its a British motoring show, and they make jokes out of being very English! :-)

i have a Street Triple......can you tell as what you read on NON British mags??and plz tell us if you ever ride a Street Triple!.........i was reading all these amazing things about the ST3s and i didn't belive them too!.....until the day i took the test ride bike!....
xrilek 1 year ago
All I'm hearing a whole lot of "Oh boo hoo, Triumph won a British review again." Are you retarded? The Street Triple has been winning international awards since its first year out, just like the 675. My father bought one a year ago, and it is a ridiculously fun little bike to throw around. Plenty of power to hit 140mph and pull wheelies on demand, and it throws down in the corners effortlessly. Go to a Triumph dealer and take a test ride if you don't believe this review.
kuhlka 1 year ago
@kuhlka +675!!!
xrilek 1 year ago

Z750 is cheaper because of ..the (lackoff) research put into it's performance ?
nomainreason 1 year ago
@nomainreason I think it's a matter of look. Z750 is something "yet seen before", most of japan have this problem, them age fast.
After the radial brakes and the E. injection there hasn't been important innovation in the bikes world. Well, i forgot the adjustable engine mapps but they are pretty much a gadget IMO.
PedtheFox 1 year ago
For me still Z750 ;) Looks best and it's build like tank...:) Triumph nice engine but looks like toy compared to Z750...New FZ8 does look like nothing interesting; ducati & arpilia - I'm not interested in twins for a while...
