My church had the blessed privilege of having Marsha do a concert for us, just last summer. She was fabulous, and looks great. It's even more awesome to see her actually performing with her group of orgin -- Children of the Day.
Lived in SoCal at the time that Jesus People movement and revival was taking place. It seemed that no matter where you traveled in that area that there were many who were following in "the Way" of the cross, many musicians who sang of His praises. Their home base at the time of recording was Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa. They deserve credit for being one of the first contemporary Christian musical groups.

I was so shocked and thrilled to see this video, I was 16 back then and attended a Christian coffee house in Denver, I bought this album and this song was and still is one of the few that just touches my heart so much. I accidentally broke the album years ago and could never find it again but have spent many nights in the dark crying singing this song and praising God that He did die for my tears. I 1srt hears this song in 1974 at a youth bilb study.I wasn't into church but my girlfriend was. After we split, I qiut going, but I never forgot this song. As I played in different rock bands, I would suggest this song and get grief from my bandmates. Twenty years later I began attending church and the choir director asked me to join the choir. Along with several of my hippie-type high school friends, we used to listen to this in 1971. The "Jesus movement" came to our town as it were. Several of us got saved in that era. We would gather in a friends basement for bible study and prayer. We listened to this and Love Song, also.

That bald guy sitting on a chair close to Catherine Kulman is Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel who allowed for the *hippie christians* to begin playing in at CCCM and he took a lot of flack from the church in doing so as many thought these young men and women the Lord was saving coming out of the drug culture needed haircuts and ties on to play at any church. Yes, I remember this group as well! I went to CC as well in the early 70's. I cried listening to this, and to Love Song, wow, it's where it all started and I am remembering those days with tears, Jesus was more real to me then and to this day even more. I worked my first two summers at a Christian camp in NC. The Camp Director had been a hippie, and had been saved during the Jesus movement. We sang this song almost every day. It has always one of my favorites. By the way I too am a gay Christian. Being gay is not the issue, living a christ honoring life in spite of it is the real issue.

I remember the era very well. How could something once so new and fresh turn stale in the soul? Youth easily engage the cosmic drama of the Maker in search of his lost creation. Feeling lost is what being youthful is mostly about. Believing one's self "found" is a young person's highest joy. Such was the experience of kids into Jesus, Krishna, Guru Maharaji, Moon, you name it. Drugs enhanced the awareness of something more, and many were the offerings to satisfy it. I saw Children Of The Day at Mc Cormick Place back in the summer of 1973. Every month that summer McCormick Place was host to a Jesus Rally. WoW! Those were really special times for me. We rode up to Chicago in a bus from Portage, Indiana, I was a Jesus Freak long before it ever became popular, and I got to meet Dale Evans at a Jesus Rally. I finally met Roy Rogers in the summer of 1986. I didn't wash my hand for 3-days!
I remember hearing this live on TV broadcast, and I was so jealous they got to travel,all around the world on a music tour, and comforted that She trusted God had planned our future, I wanted faith like that. I still feel the same.
I love this. I have been saved for 8 yrs now and I think this song is wonderful. I prayed for salvation in 2001 with a RC Priest, and then made his church my church. I was then baptized and have never been the same. I found that the Charism or gifts of the spirit were mine if I wanted them and asked God to fill me and immediately began to speak in tongues. This is one of my earliest memories of youth music from my Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, MI. The grace and love expressed in this song stayed with me and served as comfort to me as I came out and learned to love the gift of my unique role as a gay Christian man. You don't know your history. Kathryn Kuhlman was married to a man who divorced his wife and left her and four children in order to marry Kathryn. The Bible has a lot to say about divorce which is very clear. What it supposedly says about gays is vague at best and subject to other interpretations. If Marsha was out in 1971 it would have been hypocritical for Kathryn to not let her come on the show as it would have been a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

The Christian truth is that no worker of iniquity will inherit the kingdom of God. IF Marsha is indeed a lesbian and still active in that sin then she is not reconciled to God. If she is reconciled to God He will give her the strength to turn from her sin just as He has given me the strength to turn from my own condemning sin. As Christians we should love and support one another but let's not deceive anyone to believe they can be unrepentant and active in sin and be saved, it just isn't so.
Where does the Bible say that being a lesbian is a sin? The BIble my friend, not Church Tradition. Bob Jones University used to treat blacks as less than human and not admit them. Today on their website they have posted an apology admitting they were wrong in using the Bible to discriminate against blacks. Change blacks to gays in the apology and you will probably see the same thing posted in the not to distant future. Time and better understanding have a way of changing attitudes.
Even ignoring the condemnation that God has for fornication (sex outside of marriage), Romans 1:26 says "for this cause God gave them up unto vile affections, for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature." The word of God has been handled deceitfully by many who claim to have come in His name but none-the-less He is very clear about sexual immorality and that it defiles our bodies (which are His temple). It is no kindness to tell folks their sin is OK.
It's not what goes into your body that defiles but rather what comes out. Fornication has to do with sex done in conjunction with idol worship, not acts of love between consenting adults. Your sex drive was created by God and is good, not evil. If two people gay or straight married or single have a meaningful sexual relationship in the sight of God it is moral because it is an act of love and nobody is being hurt or violated in any way. Only things that hurt like rape or incest are evil.
Please cite the scripture which justifies such a view because the scripture I am familiar with shows that marriage is the union of a man and a woman, that fornication is sex outside of marriage and that a man laying with a man (or woman with a woman as I've already cited) is sinful. Show me in the word of God where these are wrong and what you're saying has any validity. Sorry 'kind' but what you're proclaiming is a doctrine of man and hateful to God ... at least if the Bible has any validity.
If you read your OT, marriage was one man, as many women as he could afford and concubines. Abraham had sex with Sara's maid and loaned Sara out to two different men for sex. The OT Patriarchs had numerous wives and concubines. Rahab was still called the harlot in the NT. Yet in spite of all this, there is not one word of censure from God and these people are all heroes of the faith and in the line that eventually produced our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

In that case pray that Marsha will come to repentance and surrender to Jesus's life saving grace. Repent from what? The Bible passages that appear to condemn gays and lesbians at first glance when studied properly all of a sudden are not so clear on the matter after all. We have read our traditons into God's word and made it say something the original authors never intended it to say. Leviticus says that eating pork is an abomination but the same people that use Leviticus to condemn gays ignore the pork command and eat it anyway. Is this not being a hypocrite?
Repent from sin ... understand that God is holy and righteous and HATES sin! Your comment about Leviticus suggests you don't understand what the purpose of the law was or what it means to be under 'grace' (for these read Romans and Galatians). The Bible doesn't only 'appear' to condemn homosexual activity (and other forms of sexual sin including heterosexual fornication) but it does so clearly. Study the Bible and learn the truth because what you are professing here has no Biblical substance.
There is no word in OT Hebrew or NT Greek for homosexual so how can anybody say being gay is a sin. Leviticus is against sacrificing children to Molech which comes just before the so called men with men verse so it is obvious that the men verse has to do with idol worship too in order to keep the theme of the passages in line.If you read any of the OT or NT verses having to do with the sins of Sodom you will not find homosexuality mentioned in any of them. It appears you are following tradition.
Study to show yourself approved. Get a copy of Strong's Concordance (or use an available internet version) and start going through the passages that refer to homosexuality or sexual sin in general (such as 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 or Romans 1:24-32). kindchristianlady, you are free to believe whatever you wish and it is clear you wish to believe that homosexuality is natural and acceptable to God. Just make sure you are right because how one lives can have eternal repercussions.
The problerm with Strong's Concordance is that it is biased towards our traditions and does not necessarily reflect what the original authors intended the passages in question to say. And that means reasonable doubt. There are other scholars who study and see things differently. Read A LETTER TO LOUISE by Bruce W. Lowe who is a retired Baptist minister for an alternate opinion. It is online and a google search will find it. We must hear all sides before forming conclusions about anything.
I doubt the 'reasonable doubt' argument will hold water with God. His word to us about sexual immorality (including heterosexual) is quite clear and only the most tortured of rationalizations can lead to a belief that God condones what you are saying here. A tradition of man can be dismissed without a second thought but to dismiss what Jesus and His apostles taught, to suggest their meaing was the opposite of what they said, shows a desire to walk in darkness and not the light of the Lord.
When Jesus talked about looking with lust he was talking about looking at a married woman with the desire to steal her from her husband and break up the marriage, not normal sexual desires that harm nobody. The whoremongers and adulterers talked about by Paul are people who exploit others against their will or wife stealers, not sexual acts between consenting adults. Sex is a beautiful gift from God and was meant to be enjoyed in a responsible way, not necessarily within marriage bonds.
Where do you come up with this theology? It certainly isn't based on the Bible. In 1 Corinthians 6:9 it says 'Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,' Madam, God did give us a beautiful gift in sex but He intends it for man and woman united in holy matrimony and not the whoredom man has made of it.
The kingdom of God is not the sweet by and by. According to Jesus, it is within us now. What Paul is talking about here is things that do harm to other people. When we do such things we are missing out on the full benefits of having the kingdom of God living within us. Sexual relations between consenting adults done in a responsible way don't harm people. Sex is not something evil to be used only to propogate the human race. It is God's gift to us to enjoy. Read The Song Of Solomon.

Of course God would tell us to flee fornication because it involves sex used in the worship of false Gods in pagan temples (idolatry) which was very common practice in Rome & Corinth in NT times. What's interesting is that the writer of this song, Marsha Stevens later confessed to being a lesbian. She was essentially shunned from the industry and started the "Born Again Lesbian Music" ministry.
Well, I think it is interesting...and I am not judging..... it's interesting because of the controversy that it created at the time. So, begging your pardon, but it is NOT gossip because of the countless articles and videos on youtube of Marsha Stevens being quite bold about it. I was not slandering her name... did I say anything negative? I am also not gossiping but stating what is a proven fact.
well, it's a message of inclusion that Marsha wants to get out, so I'll agree with haveapez that's it's an important and interesting part of the story here. God has used her to touch many thousands with Christ's love.
It's best not to say anything if you can't say something good about somebody. Yes Marsha is a lesbains but she is also a Christian so I accept her and love her just the same.
With all due respect, I find this to be a significant bit of information of a landmark singer in early Contemporary Christian music. I have said NOTHING negative that she has not proclaimed herself. I have not spread gossip, nor have I slandered her. You can go on youtube and find various clips of her talking about it. You all seem to be forgetting that in my original post I talk about her minsitry, Born Again Lesbians... so I'm proving facts. Get off your high horse.
I enjoyed this song. There's a few nitpicky problems with the lyrics, but nothing to get upset about. What IS interesting is that, just like today, the church meetings are OVERWHELMINGLY female.

My church had the blessed privilege of having Marsha do a concert for us, just last summer. She was fabulous, and looks great. It's even more awesome to see her actually performing with her group of orgin -- Children of the Day.

Lived in SoCal at the time that Jesus People movement and revival was taking place. It seemed that no matter where you traveled in that area that there were many who were following in "the Way" of the cross, many musicians who sang of His praises. The musicians are Russ Stevens, Marsha Carter Stevens-Pino, Wendy Carter Fremin, Pete Jacobs. They are originally from Claremont, California. Their home base at the time of recording was Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa. They deserve credit for being one of the first contemporary Christian musical groups.

I remember those days too! It was an awesome time! I wish the songs today were as point blank about Christ as they were back then...and I'm not saying we don't have anointed songs today, just different. I was so shocked and thrilled to see this video, I was 16 back then and attended a Christian coffee house in Denver, I bought this album and this song was and still is one of the few that just touches my heart so much. I accidentally broke the album years ago and could never find it again but have spent many nights in the dark crying singing this song and praising God that He did die for my tears. I love the song. Homosexuality is still a sin. Bible calls it an abomination. Pretty clear to me. If Ms. Stevens chooses to ignore or dismiss that section of scripture, well that's her choice. I 1srt hears this song in 1974 at a youth bilb study.I wasn't into church but my girlfriend was. After we split, I qiut going, but I never forgot this song. As I played in different rock bands, I would suggest this song and get grief from my bandmates. Twenty years later I began attending church and the choir director asked me to join the choir. Along with several of my hippie-type high school friends, we used to listen to this in 1971. The "Jesus movement" came to our town as it were. Several of us got saved in that era. We would gather in a friends basement for bible study and prayer. We listened to this and Love Song, also.

Wasn't long after Children of the Day recorded this that I too became a Christian. That bald guy sitting on a chair close to Catherine Kulman is Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel who allowed for the *hippie christians* to begin playing in at CCCM and he took a lot of flack from the church in doing so as many thought these young men and women the Lord was saving coming out of the drug culture needed haircuts and ties on to play at any church. Praise God Chuch saw the Lord was doing a new work

I worked my first two summers at a Christian camp in NC. The Camp Director had been a hippie, and had been saved during the Jesus movement. We sang this song almost every day. It has always one of my favorites. By the way I too am a gay Christian. Being gay is not the issue, living a christ honoring life in spite of it is the real issue.

I remember the era very well. How could something once so new and fresh turn stale in the soul? Youth easily engage the cosmic drama of the Maker in search of his lost creation. Feeling lost is what being youthful is mostly about. Believing one's self "found" is a young person's highest joy. Such was the experience of kids into Jesus, Krishna, Guru Maharaji, Moon, you name it. Drugs enhanced the awareness of something more, and many were the offerings to satisfy it. I saw Children Of The Day at Mc Cormick Place back in the summer of 1973. Every month that summer McCormick Place was host to a Jesus Rally. WoW! Those were really special times for me. We rode up to Chicago in a bus from Portage, Indiana, I was a Jesus Freak long before it ever became popular, and I got to meet Dale Evans at a Jesus Rally. I finally met Roy Rogers in the summer of 1986. I didn't wash my hand for 3-days!

I love this. I have been saved for 8 yrs now and I think this song is wonderful. I prayed for salvation in 2001 with a RC Priest, and then made his church my church. I was then baptized and have never been the same. I found that the Charism or gifts of the spirit were mine if I wanted them and asked God to fill me and immediately began to speak in tongues. This is one of my earliest memories of youth music from my Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, MI. The grace and love expressed in this song stayed with me and served as comfort to me as I came out and learned to love the gift of my unique role as a gay Christian man. You don't know your history. Kathryn Kuhlman was married to a man who divorced his wife and left her and four children in order to marry Kathryn. The Bible has a lot to say about divorce which is very clear. What it supposedly says about gays is vague at best and subject to other interpretations. If Marsha was out in 1971 it would have been hypocritical for Kathryn to not let her come on the show as it would have been a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

PERFECT! The year 1974, I was a teen and my Dad passed away suddenly. I listened to my Children of the Day album over and over, especially this song. I still have the recor but nothing to play it on. I've wanted to hear this for so long. Thank you!

I remember listening to this group back in the 1970's.I remember this song when it was first sung in my church back then and it sounds just as meaningful today as it did back then. Marsha Stevens is still a Christian who loves the Lord as far as I'm concerned and it's sad when I hear of the way some so called Christians have treated her. HATS OFF TO YOU MARSHA FROM A STRAIGHT CHRISTIAN! GOD LOVES YOU AND SO DO I! Keep doing what you are doing and don't ever change.

The Christian truth is that no worker of iniquity will inherit the kingdom of God. IF Marsha is indeed a lesbian and still active in that sin then she is not reconciled to God. If she is reconciled to God He will give her the strength to turn from her sin just as He has given me the strength to turn from my own condemning sin. As Christians we should love and support one another but let's not deceive anyone to believe they can be unrepentant and active in sin and be saved, it just isn't so.

Where does the Bible say that being a lesbian is a sin? The BIble my friend, not Church Tradition. Bob Jones University used to treat blacks as less than human and not admit them. Today on their website they have posted an apology admitting they were wrong in using the Bible to discriminate against blacks. Change blacks to gays in the apology and you will probably see the same thing posted in the not to distant future. Time and better understanding have a way of changing attitudes.

Even ignoring the condemnation that God has for fornication (sex outside of marriage), Romans 1:26 says "for this cause God gave them up unto vile affections, for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature." The word of God has been handled deceitfully by many who claim to have come in His name but none-the-less He is very clear about sexual immorality and that it defiles our bodies (which are His temple). It is no kindness to tell folks their sin is OK.

It's not what goes into your body that defiles but rather what comes out. Fornication has to do with sex done in conjunction with idol worship, not acts of love between consenting adults. Your sex drive was created by God and is good, not evil. If two people gay or straight married or single have a meaningful sexual relationship in the sight of God it is moral because it is an act of love and nobody is being hurt or violated in any way. Only things that hurt like rape or incest are evil.

Please cite the scripture which justifies such a view because the scripture I am familiar with shows that marriage is the union of a man and a woman, that fornication is sex outside of marriage and that a man laying with a man (or woman with a woman as I've already cited) is sinful. Show me in the word of God where these are wrong and what you're saying has any validity. Sorry 'kind' but what you're proclaiming is a doctrine of man and hateful to God ... at least if the Bible has any validity.

If you read your OT, marriage was one man, as many women as he could afford and concubines. Abraham had sex with Sara's maid and loaned Sara out to two different men for sex. The OT Patriarchs had numerous wives and concubines. Rahab was still called the harlot in the NT. Yet in spite of all this, there is not one word of censure from God and these people are all heroes of the faith and in the line that eventually produced our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

In that case pray that Marsha will come to repentance and surrender to Jesus's life saving grace. He does love her and Charles Manson and Hugh Hefner but that won't prevent Him from condemning to hell those who imagine they can live in unrepentant sin. God would never have gone to the extremes He did, the crucifixion of His beloved Son, if sin were such a trivial matter. If we love our brother and sister, we will tell them the truth about sin and the salvation that lies in Jesus alone.

Repent from what? The Bible passages that appear to condemn gays and lesbians at first glance when studied properly all of a sudden are not so clear on the matter after all. We have read our traditons into God's word and made it say something the original authors never intended it to say. Leviticus says that eating pork is an abomination but the same people that use Leviticus to condemn gays ignore the pork command and eat it anyway. Is this not being a hypocrite?

Repent from sin ... understand that God is holy and righteous and HATES sin! Your comment about Leviticus suggests you don't understand what the purpose of the law was or what it means to be under 'grace' (for these read Romans and Galatians). The Bible doesn't only 'appear' to condemn homosexual activity (and other forms of sexual sin including heterosexual fornication) but it does so clearly. Study the Bible and learn the truth because what you are professing here has no Biblical substance.

There is no word in OT Hebrew or NT Greek for homosexual so how can anybody say being gay is a sin. Leviticus is against sacrificing children to Molech which comes just before the so called men with men verse so it is obvious that the men verse has to do with idol worship too in order to keep the theme of the passages in line.If you read any of the OT or NT verses having to do with the sins of Sodom you will not find homosexuality mentioned in any of them. It appears you are following tradition.

Study to show yourself approved. Get a copy of Strong's Concordance (or use an available internet version) and start going through the passages that refer to homosexuality or sexual sin in general (such as 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 or Romans 1:24-32). kindchristianlady, you are free to believe whatever you wish and it is clear you wish to believe that homosexuality is natural and acceptable to God. Just make sure you are right because how one lives can have eternal repercussions.

The problerm with Strong's Concordance is that it is biased towards our traditions and does not necessarily reflect what the original authors intended the passages in question to say. And that means reasonable doubt. There are other scholars who study and see things differently. Read A LETTER TO LOUISE by Bruce W. Lowe who is a retired Baptist minister for an alternate opinion. It is online and a google search will find it. We must hear all sides before forming conclusions about anything.

I doubt the 'reasonable doubt' argument will hold water with God. His word to us about sexual immorality (including heterosexual) is quite clear and only the most tortured of rationalizations can lead to a belief that God condones what you are saying here. A tradition of man can be dismissed without a second thought but to dismiss what Jesus and His apostles taught, to suggest their meaing was the opposite of what they said, shows a desire to walk in darkness and not the light of the Lord.

When Jesus talked about looking with lust he was talking about looking at a married woman with the desire to steal her from her husband and break up the marriage, not normal sexual desires that harm nobody. The whoremongers and adulterers talked about by Paul are people who exploit others against their will or wife stealers, not sexual acts between consenting adults. Sex is a beautiful gift from God and was meant to be enjoyed in a responsible way, not necessarily within marriage bonds.

Where do you come up with this theology? It certainly isn't based on the Bible. In 1 Corinthians 6:9 it says 'Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,' Madam, God did give us a beautiful gift in sex but He intends it for man and woman united in holy matrimony and not the whoredom man has made of it.

The kingdom of God is not the sweet by and by. According to Jesus, it is within us now. What Paul is talking about here is things that do harm to other people. When we do such things we are missing out on the full benefits of having the kingdom of God living within us. Sexual relations between consenting adults done in a responsible way don't harm people. Sex is not something evil to be used only to propogate the human race. It is God's gift to us to enjoy. Read The Song Of Solomon.

Do you believe the Bible? If you do you will see that polygamy was the order of the day in OT times without one word of censure from God. Then be honest and admit that sex is your 'god' and the God of the Bible, the one who tells us 'flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? Of course God would tell us to flee fornication because it involves sex used in the worship of false Gods in pagan temples (idolatry) which was very common practice in Rome & Corinth in NT times. It has absolutely nothing to do with loving non cultic sexual acts between consenting adults. Sex is not my God. What's interesting is that the writer of this song, Marsha Stevens later confessed to being a lesbian. She was essentially shunned from the industry and started the "Born Again Lesbian Music" ministry.

With all due respect, I find this to be a significant bit of information of a landmark singer in early Contemporary Christian music. I have said NOTHING negative that she has not proclaimed herself. I have not spread gossip, nor have I slandered her. You can go on youtube and find various clips of her talking about it.
