Couldnt agree more. He comes out to cut the angle and STILL got burned.... lol
This is why the redwings could never name a #1 goaltender, between Vernon and Osgood it was daily toss-up as to which one would suck least, and the other got benched.
Indeed. And, to have won 2 Stanley Cups in on two different franchises, once having won the Conn Smythe Trophy.
Check out his goaltending style also. Such a mobile, reactionary mixed-stand-up style. Such were the good 'ole times of modern-old school NHL Hockey...
Thanks aalbertn, I saw the 'Iron Ranger' thing and thought, huh?
Also, is that Brotsie's old teammate on the Wings bench, Dino Ciccarrelli? hahaha... Thinking of both of them on the North Stars for all those years, what a great time.
Neal is 'Mr. Hockey' in Minnesota. Won the State High School title, the Hobey Baker, NCAA title, USA Gold in '80, the Stanley Cup, all of it. His jersey hangs in the rafters in Dallas today.
Seeing him at Wild games brings back the memories!
Are you telling me. I am 32, grew up in Minnesota, played hockey through high school. I have a picture of me with Neal Broten from the 1980s somewhere that I have to find.

Look how far out Mike Vernon is! He sucked!

Vernon was great. You know, as a Red Wing, he won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1997 following a 4-Game SCF sweep of the Flyers.

I just meant in this game he sucked. Got pulled after 4 goals.
stevesport1 2 years ago 3
Ya, apparently, he had a rough, rough series in that SCF.
Similarly as to Hextall (whom Vernon squared off against) in the SCF of 1997.
I agree tho, I mean a whole bunch of these GA by Vernon in this SCF of 1995 looked rather suspect...

Thats true, but he was still a very good goalie. There is something to be said for taking your team to multiple stanley cup finals.

He has many titles and awards but the Minnesota State High School title isn't one of them, sorry...
keefe802 2 years ago
That's correct, he made three appearances in the tournament, no wins. As far as many titles and awards, you think?
Why do you say 'sorry'? Ok, your forgiven...

Roseau is not on the Iron Range, it's actually about 200 miles northwest of the Iron Range. Neal Broten was good at hockey.

Not a lot of speed in his old legs in '95, but the little Iron-Ranger always knew how to shoot.
