The only logical conclusion is that the lion would be the winner on average. It's equal to the tiger in size and strength but strikes harder, is more experienced, uses a superior fighting method, has more stamina and a protective mane. The tiger of course also has advantages - higher bite force or slightly longer canines. But, that wouldn't mean much in such a fight, both have canines long enough and jaws strong enough to kill each other.

People do not realise these animals are almost identical (So identical they are able to produce offspring). The only real difference (excluding colouring) is the male Lions mane.
Dispite what Tiger fans say the Lions mane IS good for protection and it is the reason Lions always beat Tigers. If a Tiger gets a Lion by the throut the Lion will live.
Proof Lions mane is good protection. 'Tiger kills lion. (High Quality)' by RubyRedTiger. A Lion has 3 Tigers biting its mane and survives.

The lions by nature are more the tolerant species due to the fact that they live in a pride where as tigers are much more aggressive due to them being solitary animals, that is way they lash out more when others intrude in their personal space, also noticed that tigers tend to use both front feet when striking where as lions use one at a time, I think tigers would most likely win 6 to 7 times out of 10 fights against ‘male’ lions

@nzafari12 A tiger will not attack an elephant because of instinct and intellect knowing that time will be wasted; tigers are solitary animals so they know they can not take down an elephant by just itself; however, a lion will hunt in a pack also known as a pride and can take a baby elephant if the pride is desperate enough. The male lion does not hunt, it just defends the pride.

Their behaviour and their lifestyles evolved to meet the challenges they each met geograhically and evolutionally. My neighbour has cats, I feed them on occassion. (Have managed to put bells on 3 of them!) Their innate being is the same as lions, but in reality, they operate singularly just as well as the tiger.The biggest eats first. A cat is a cat

tigers box...lions wrestle.....but the leopard is the best fighter....i've seen a video were a leopard was surrounded by lions and he was fighting with 3 lions at the same time....the lions couldn't do anything because the leopard was lightning fast and very agile and he could jump and attack from any angle even on his back he was landing blows on the lions face and eventually the lions backed away....the leopard was just protecting himself and the lions got bloody marks all over their faces.

Underneath the fur these two animals are identical. Only difference is that a tiger uses both of it's front feet in battle - a lion only uses one of those at a time. That's why a tiger will always prevail over it's lion brother.

@101truthhurts Hmm, no. Actually that's one point why a lion would win. Instead of wasting its stamina by standing on two legs and using both arms for weaker but faster swipes (if the tiger put all its force into its swipes it would lose balance when standing on two legs - and tigers already have worse stamina as I can prove with a lot of studies) the lion uses all its power (with stronger upper arms and shoulders which I also can prove) for less but much stronger swipes.

Both are a fighting force that are designed to attack offensively. Tigers are much too dynamic of an animal for a heavy-set lion to match. I do however think that there needs to be a serious reform in how zoos and wildlife exhibits are arranged. These two animals should not be kept in such close quarters.

This video is biased. The tiger is a natural LONER... so it's NATURALLY irritable around other cats, especially cats of other species! Who ever posted this video compiled a video of Tiger based bias.
Lion is by far more dominant. It's just the tiger has developed sneak attacks to catch prey. All the attacks were sneak attacks!

The only logical conclusion is that the lion would be the winner on average. It's equal to the tiger in size and strength but strikes harder, is more experienced, uses a superior fighting method, has more stamina and a protective mane. The tiger of course also has advantages - higher bite force or slightly longer canines. But, that wouldn't mean much in such a fight, both have canines long enough and jaws strong enough to kill each other.
